ANDROID PLAY STORE Zombie Exodus Safe Haven and paying for unfinished work

Hi There!

I want to start off by saying a few things:

  1. I LOVE Zombie Exodus Safe Haven (along with many many MANY other cogs/wips).
  2. I am an artist (theatre actor) who gets paid for her work and believes other artists should too. However…

I tell folks ahead of time that I need to get paid to work for them. I totally love the fact that with COG’s you can sample a chapter or two before deciding to pay…and I use that advantage. Most give us 3 chapters to decide, even though they shouldn’t have to. I get that it’s a privilege and LOVE it.

Zombie Exodus Safe Haven gives one chapter…but is compelling enough (if you are a cog coinessiore, soooo ok?) …anyway, when I DO pay, I expect a full game. Usually paying for a full COG is $3-5 dollars… Zombie Exodus Free Haven is $6 for a few chapters, then another $4 for a few more THEN you find out it still isnt finished. So we will likely pay again atleast once before seeing an end. I feel like I was duped. It’s cool to value your work, but PLEASE tell your fans ahead of time what to expect payment wise, especially when it is FAR from the norm. Usually a full game is cheaper than the 1st few chapters of this one. If it was superior to all other games, ok…but it is no WAYHAVEN CHRONICLES or even GUINEVERE (which is free)…again, I am absolutely willing to pay for games. I have never complained, even when i paid for ones that weren’t great because i know what kind of effort goes in to your art form but not being told ahead of time that I am buying 1/3 or 1/4 of something that i think is complete, is horse shit no matter how good it is. I am a HUGE fan of (RIP) Telltale games. They let you know that you’d need a subscription to complete the game ahead of time. I am just disappointed. Am I wrong?!?! Anyway. /EndRant

Well, the difference between Zombie Exodus series and other cog/hosted games is that it’s not really chapters of the story you are buying its parts of the series (think of it like Infinity series in one game, with Infinity you got two games out of five out for now, all of them are and will be sold as separate games and let’s remember that the story follows single character just like in Zombie Exodus and was started back in 2014) but Zombie Exodus took different approach, it’s sold in one game in form of in game purchases (let’s just look at numbers, I belive that both parts right now accumulate to 900 000 words and let’s remember that author is working on free update that will add several missions and interactions with NPC’s to part 2)

I get you, maybe it just seems so short because i am so into the world? I really do feel like it should’ve been told to me ahead of time that I wasn’t buying a full game though. That isnt the norm, so when i had to purchase part 2 i thought WHAT??? but wanted to finish the game so paid again…then when it still didnt come to a conclusion i felt cheated. How could you not??? They have to knkw you expected a full game upon (1st) purchase. I am s disappointed.

Exactly the 1st game you pay for a whole game. All other COG titles, you pay for a whole game. If this differs, you should be told before investing twice.

It was never a suprise for me because I stumbled upon first Zombie Exodus series when it was already completed so I was familiar with the way the author is selling the game. Personally I think it’s more convinient for costumers, having all parts of the series in one app helps with keeping your menu clear and few other things.

PS i can’t really remember but I belive that with Google play store it’s specified when you are buying that you are paying for part one/two

Edit: Yeah I checked, Google play store clearly states that you are paying fot parts

Also, no one is looking for different parts to cog’s because you are ALWAYS buying a full game. Are you arguing this? It was ambivalent and you know it.

I just wanted to know what I where my money was going, did you write this? Why are you fighting so hard? I like the game but it was a shitty situation.

Let’s keep cool heads here. It’s a reasonable discussion, but let’s be civil in the discussion.

I was talking about the text that appears when you are trying to pay for cog/hg on Google play store, the window with title pops out and it was titled as in screenshots I posted above where it’s clearly stated that you are buying a part of the game.

Anyway, I really understand that it may be confusing but I don’t think that it was in any way ill intended by author

Ohhhh I dont think it was intended by the author at all I dont think they deal w that stuff, do they? Anyway, YES I feel like it could’ve been displayed different in the store thats all…its cheap to expect a full game.and end up.paying multiple times is what I am saying

It wasn’t always like this iirc, but Affairs of the Court and Choice of the Vampire (both COG games) have been consolidated now. Of course I bought them way back when, so I have no idea what it looks like if you try to purchase them now, but I can see how some people might believe that they’re getting multiple parts in one go.

Since Zombie Exodus appears differently for the two of you, I’d say the author didn’t have anything to do with that bit, but perhaps you should suggest the author make it clear on the first page if you think others will be confused by this.

Lemme explain; when buying a part of Zombie Exodus: Safe Haven, you aren’t paying for an unfinished game; you’re paying for that, a part, only that.

The thing is, a part of ZESH is just like a game (both word count and content), or a book. Just that, instead of putting it in different apps (like with Wayhaven; there will be one app for book 1, another one for book 2, etc) or The Lost Heir, Jim chose to put them all together in one because it’s more convenient and handy. Instead of having 3 icon games named “Zombie Exodus: Safe Haven”, “Zombie Exodus: Safe Haven Part 2” and “Zombie Exodus: Safe Haven Part3” taking space, it’s all-in-one.

Since you mention The Wayhaven Chronicles, I’ll use it as an example; what you’re doing here it’s as if you buy book 1 and say you’ve bought an unfinished game. Okay, technically it is unfinished ('cause the story isn’t over yet), but you got what you paid for. Just because you buy book 1, doesn’t mean you’ll get 2 for free.

The same for ZESH; you aren’t paying extra for something already paid for, but more like book 2 (and in the future, 3). You paid the first book (Part 1) for 6$, the second book (Part 2) for 4$, and so on.

I am going to have to disagree there - as someone who’s also into video games other than CoG, seeing a lack of, or the non existence of demos puts me off completely. In my honest opinion, I think, yes, there absolutely should be demos and 3 chapters is a great balance for most games in the CoG market.
