An Odyssey: Echoes of War – Fight the sea god's wrath to reclaim your throne!

Thanks for the help

So just to be sure we can save Ajax from hades?

All right, I’m gonna do a little review on this story. I will try to avoid cold comments so as not to offend anyone, but the reader should keep in mind that this is a criticism, so it can be both positive and negative.

The title of this choice of games does justice to the game itself. In other words, this, no matter how hard you try, is not the original Odyssey we all know. Although it has chapters where the most famous events take place (like the cyclops and the sirens) it does not follow to the letter the adventures of Ulysses on his return to Ithaca. There is instead a “mist”, which allows the protagonist to repeat the achievements of Heracles, but in itself does not develop well the values of Greek society.

This is in the context of history. If we talk about the characters, these vary completely from their original destinies, not to mention their personalities. The death of Ajax and the end of Polyxena are ignored and rewritten, so it will be strange for a connoisseur of the Odyssey to see them among the crew.

I could say many more things, but I assume they will not be well received by the readers of this forum. I can only say that the game allows us to take a more palpable look at Greek mythology (compared to others), but it does not allow us to go deeper by following the original story. Those who like decisions and free will might be satisfied with this game, however, it is far from being a worthy reinterpretation of Homer’s legacy to literature.

The “real” fates of Ajax and Polyxena are referenced in the story: they come up as dreams or visions experienced by the main character, which I thought was a nice way of acknowledging the original stories while asserting the author’s right to reinterpret. Personally, I enjoyed the departures from the “canonical” forms of the myths, and after all authors have been rewriting these stories, often radically, for two and a half thousand years! But that’s just my opinion: you’re maybe more of a purist than me, which is a completely valid and respectable position!

You have to understand that this is a game inspired from a real event but not the real event. And every game here gives as much free choice as possible. Not a copy paste of original version. Then no one will buy the game. If you want copy paste version, you should be looking for the original novel.

Didn’t know what he expect smh

Probably something that fixes everyone’s personalities and themes to be the same as Homer’s version, but includes what-ifs and the ability to explore Odysseus’s thoughts and pathos, and maybe decide a few things differently.

Something like Mary Renault’s take on Greek myths but in IF form, perhaps.

At least that’s the vibe I’m getting.

That said, I like the game a lot lol. It’s a pretty fresh way to look at the myth, and I appreciate this.

Yes, you can choose to save the son of the King, the old man you killed or Ajax.

You forgot, everyone in your crew can die. Only two people can be revived.

Finally i was able to complete all the trial with 65% strong and fast and 60% swordskill. Son of gaia

Summary

This scene reminds me of ‘the fog knows your name’…

Can someone tell me how to trick Polyphemus(the cyclops)? I did it the first time I played but I restarted the game by accident and now I can’t seem to trick him again even though I’m 99% sure I made the exact same choices I did the first time.

Can the female mc have another child? not from polyxena

Are the trials multi stats checking? For example,I had high silver tongue yet failed to trick
Hesperides.

You are charming but you are no liar. That’s why you are getting caught.

Tho I don’t remember any liar stat which we could raise?
Edit: Just checked it there aint any. Tho I remember the first time I also failed that trial, but I left it for the last so I just assumed that my MC was too tired to pull that off with her own abilities.

If i remember correctly, there should be cunning stats that is used for lying. Also you need dexterity to pluck the apples without getting caught.

Okay, I gotta ask a few things.

*How do I successfully complete all of the Heroes’ Mist scenarios?
*What stats are needed for certain choices/scenarios (Such as the previously mentioned Heroes’ Mist)?

Got through my first playthrough. Spoilers be ahead.

Unlike the Oedipus Rex CYOA on here, this is definitely much less bound to its source material, which I personally found ok, but can understand if people find it as a fault.
Circe and Ajax as party members were pretty interesting… though I feel Ajax felt more as a RO than an actual character. As for the rest, the bard was really well done…and the other two needed more love.

Nice job showing your work with the Labors and the Underworld trip.

The criticisms against the ancient Greek culture were certainly there…but didn’t cross the line into “shoving it down my throat” territory, so kudos for that. Not to say that calling out a culture for its flaws is bad, just that it shouldn’t be at the cost of the entertainment unless the message is the whole point of the material.

Sadly, I took the god route for the end game, so not much on the return to Ithaca, but it was a well-written epilogue.

All in all…I wouldn’t put it as a favorite game, but one definitely worthy of merit and replays.
