Thank you so much! Really pleased you enjoyed it.
The typo’s been squashed. I thought I’d fixed that other achievement, but will have to take another look.
Hope you’re staying safe as well!
It’s really hard to find out about the family secret… especially since there’s no alternative and you must complete each step. I can’t find it out
That one’s meant to be hard to find out! But here are a few hints:
- Make it clear you want to know the truth
- Think about who at the Fair would be most able to help uncover secrets
- Apply what they tell you to the tournament
- Ask somebody else who was affected by the tragedy five years ago
- Apply the same logic in Cockaigne that you did in the contests
I noticed that you can only get this one if you find your sister but failed to save her.
Sad…I always go for saving her
The idea I had behind that is that it relates to the player accepting Cockaigne/Faerie rather than rejecting it.
Plus, if you go down that route she doesn’t necessarily need saving!
After multiple playthroughs, and even with your hints, I still can’t get the family secret.
I chose to pursue the truth, and talked with sybil, who said to look within and behind. I have tried doing the tournament and not doing the tournament for Cecilia. I try to look into Hugh’s family but always get caught up in the dance. Obviously I’m missing something here and it is driving me crazy. Further help would be greatly appreciated as I pursue 100% completion of your lovely game.
Absolutely! And glad you’re enjoying the game:
You’ve got the first few steps right. Try fighting the tournament for yourself, then telling Thomas de Clifford you have doubts about your family. The dance doesn’t matter.
After that you need to face the statue in Chapter 8 in a way that’s consistent with your other choices.
Thank you so much! Turns out one of my problems was, in a way, playing too well! I never had to face the statue because I always passed the first challenge, so I never used The Power of Me again.
I have to admit, I thought the secret was going to be that the family had some fae ancestry. Not disappointed though, The Kindly Ones have a long history of being and stealing midwives. And just to gush, kudos for using Cockaigne in the first place! I haven’t read that word in years, so seeing and recognizing it was a real treat.
All I have left to do is find out the Piper’s identity! Will musical talent play a role in this one? Off to find out!
Thank you!
I’m very fond of the word - I referenced it in one of my novels as well, along with about twelve other names for Fairyland.
Good luck! That’s probably the hardest secret in the game…
Hehe, hard is an understatement. I’ve lost count of how many hours I’ve played, and I don’t even know where to start with this one, unlike the family secret. Any advice?
It’s all about Pyers.
Focus on impressing him, and he’ll give you clues as to what you’ve missed.
Hhm. I focused on music and chivalry and made sure to visit him and choose charming answers. Am I supposed to get an option to ask for a favor for the tournament? do I need to do something with the painting in the castle? I tried finding what got his attention but I just got sucked in.
No, he’s not a tournament option. Not getting captivated by the tapestry helps but isn’t the sole deciding factor.
And you’re right to focus on music! The other stat you’ll need is Superstition…
77 superstition and 52 music and still no closer to solving it. Even when I wasn’t enchanted. Cecilia didn’t recognize me this time, does that have something to do with it? Oh, do I need to face the statue again?
No, you don’t need to worry about either of those things!
The other key points are:
Relationship with Pyers, and his sidequest
Solving the mystery of who abducted the prince
Forming some level of attachment to Cockaigne without beig compelled to return there
The first point should trigger a conversation with Pyers at the end where he gives you hints about the others…
Four more playthroughs and no closer than before. I must admit, having to have music as a focus makes meeting other requirements more challenging. May I ask what role music does play? Is it because I need to win the music contest? I’ve managed that every time. It doesn’t seem to help with the hypnotic pattern either. Does eating the fruit at the fair help
It’s more that you need to have enough music to impress Pyers, but it doesn’t need to be your sole focus - 35 is high enough.
High Superstition will get you past the hypnotic pattern, if you choose option #3.
Eating the fruit can help if you then don’t fail many tests in Cockaigne.
Solving the mystery before the game tells you is crucial - try picking up as many clues as you can.
Ah, so close and yet so far! On the plus side, I managed to preserve the fair for the first time, which is lovely. Yet a-lack and a-day, my true goal is just beyond my fingertips! I have consumed the goblin fruit at the fair, befriended the piper, and passed all tests but the woman at the river. Should I visit the prisoner in the dungeon or perhaps partake in the castle’s banquet?
Neither of those are essential for this one!
You need some degree of attachment to Cockaigne (but not so much that you get called back there), which you can get several ways - eating the fruit is one, making a binding promise to the prisoner another, failing certain tests in Cockiagne a third.
But the other crucial thing is getting enough clues to guess Richard’s guilt before you encounter him at the end.
Any tips for figuring out Richard’s guilt then? I successfully talked to both nobles at the tourney.
