Zombie Exodus: Safe Haven -- set for release 10/28/16

@JimD

With the delusions challenge, there is one scene where: “…across the street a man stands in a window reflecting a mirror. As you spot him, he smiles, lowers the mirror, and raises a sign. I’m coming for you.

I didn’t actually realize this was a delusion event until I played a different character, since the other delusions normally have a man in a trench coat. Could there be a follow up to this at some stage? Such as if you scout the houses you wonder where the man has gone, or make a note of him in one of them and search for him if you go there?

There is a follow up. If your character is delusional, they can’t scavenge anything from the first home they break into because a hallucination of the Watcher makes you run away.

I didn’t get the impression that was him though. If anything, that was the guy you have been having them about the rest of the game. If the scene was changed to say “the man you saw earlier” instead of “man in a trench coat” that could be different. And if the “watcher” was described as that man as well, since most of the events seem to center around a “man in a trench coat”.

@JimD another error. I chose to leave the Dependant and Jill at home while I went to the school and got this: Jillian shows the hint of a frown. “That’s probably best. I’m still tired,” she says and turns to Johnny. “We won’t be gone for long, and we’ll have Angel’s friend with us.”

Jim I enjoyed Wise Use of Time, I feel like you could take that game and make a series. Because from the way it ended that’s not the end of the adventure, people are going to want to know the rest of what happens to our chareter. And how does he or she die
[/quote] Wrong thread maybe lol.

General question here for anyone who knows. Is Jill, Jaime and the twins the only survivors we can have as followers at the moment or is there any others? Would like to try them out

That’s all of them if you don’t count Lyle.

@5ubzer0 I can see how you’d think that Jaime mercy killed Dillan. I will likely alter that. I want people to view Jaime a certain way and it’s not coming across as written.

@idonotlikeusernames you’re right about scav and cooking for homemaker. I have to give some thought to it. It’s more background than profession. I may end up ditching that class and using their prologue as an alternate start.

@NJG bulletproof vests will be available.

I had to balance abilities for all classes, and strength isn’t a huge factor for bank robber skills. You can customize abilities though.

Nora is Reilly’s mother, and I was trying to establish that you’ve known and Reilly for a long time, even before you became his partner. I will change that line when you call.

@Sylfaen I just don’t feel it’s wrong to mod. Even as someone profiting off IAP, I feel like you paid for the game and it’s yours now, so long as you don’t reproduce and sell it.

@Nathan_Faxon like ZE, all survivors have strengths and weaknesses. Heather is capable but gives a hard time if she doesn’t want to do a task. Devlin is a great fighter but doesn’t work hard around the Cathedral.

Humanity and morality are tracked in Safe Haven, so I have more flexibility in figuring out a player’s mindset. Also humanity in SH will degrade over time due to the effects of falling society.

@mistylavenda I am very overruled on limiting masters level for teenager

@EmperorHeartless teenagers and college students do present a lot of complications. What about giving them less starting points but less cost to level? This shows their lack of experience but potential to learn.

@idonotlikeusernames that’s a great summary. Adding in my above idea on starting points, it may be balanced.

@AfricanPride I do have some bugs with the weapon system but appreciate your testing. I can fix that soon and will look at L&J’s reactions too.

@adamthecowdog thanks. There’s about a 1% chance of a sequel but I appreciate your vote for one.

@WolfieGrey the Watcher (as other calls him) will certainly pop up again, and you will be able to investigate him.

I will fix that.

Just finished a female social worker playthrough. Challenges: Allergy to Pollen, Claustrophobic, Visual Impairment

Those are the errors I found:

Jaime has been your best friend since The years of knowing him have strengthened your bond, so a chance to do him a favor seems trivial.

Missing explanation of how the social worker knows Jaime.

Carlton Faulkner, the new head of emergency med, steps up as soon as he notices you. Though older than the fifty-year-old hospital, he denies rumors that his jet black hair and wrinkle-free skin are natural.

Not natural, maybe? Unnatural would sound rather weird.

Before entering, you hear stifled weeping, but as you step inside, the mother bursts into tears, shaking in her husband’s arms. The man wipes tears away from his own eyes and hugs his wife in the other.

The man wipes tears away from his own eyes with one arm and holds his wife in the other?

Neither parent speaks but stare down at their daughter, who is covered by a thin, white sheet to her neck.

Stares.

From your pocket, you take out a small tablet to type notes for the medical records and mention your first attempt at intervention to the parents of Jessica Caffrey…

Intervention with the parents.

You run for the parking lot, maneuvering around frenzied people and parked cars, until you reach your unspecified in the vast asphalt sea. (…)
You fall into your unspecified and start the engine.

The social worker’s car needs to be added here.

You wipe sweat from your forehead and turn attention back to the long road.

Turn your attention.

You head back downstairs and plan to check later to turn off the water once both the sink and tub have fille.

Filled.

That was my campaign. ‘PrimeMatch.com—don’t date a clown.’ That slogan paid for my new motorcycle. You work at St. Matthias, right?"
“Yes, I’m a Social Worker there.”

For clarity, this is the conversation with Sean. Since you have used social worker in lowercase up until now, it needs to be consistent.

“What’s your story? What do you do for a living?”

“I’m an artist.”
“I’m a college student.”
“I’m in the military.”
“I’m a homemaker.”
“I’m a teacher.”
“I’m an entrepreneur.”
“I work in retail.”
“I’m unemployed.”

The option to say you are a social worker or for simplicity’s sake work in health care is missing.

Outbreaks of Zeta virus disease has been documented in in the United States with greater activity in densely populated areas.

Have.

  • Your alarm buzzes at six in the morning, rousing you from a restful night of sleep.
  • As you notice the unlit face of the small alarm clock on your dresser, you realize the first challenge of the apocalypse has arrived. With the power out, life becomes even more complicated.
  • Of course, with no electricity, the refrigerator went off. Normally, a closed fridge would stay cold for quite a while, so electricity must have gone off a while ago.

Ok, so this is a logic error. Power was still on at six when your alarm rang, therefore the contents of your fridge cannot have spoiled by then. You can easily solve this by using MC’s mobile phone as an alarm or having them wake up on their own.

You dress in the dark and then head into the hallway. You walk down the hall toward the bedroom where Lyle and Jillian slept last night.

If you do not have the nephew staying with you, you actually offer Lyle and Jillian seperate bedrooms. Thus, I’d expect the MC to be somewhat surprised to discover that they ended up sharing a room.

Your unspecified sits at the edge of curb, now marked with scratches and dents. It won’t fit both of you to ride, so you either need to walk to the school or steal a car.

I am not sure why I cannot take Jillian with me in the social worker’s car. Is there any car that does not have enough space for two people? It would make more sense if the car was too damaged to be used.

Loose papers, bookers, and other classroom materials litter the stairwell, and you spot a solitary sneaker or broken piece of wood scattered about.

Books.

When my MC climbs through the vent as a claustrophobic, she barely seems to be affected by the confined space. I don’t think going through the vent should be given as an option for anyone with the claustrophobic trait.

In terms of general feedback, I really enjoy Jillian as a character. It’s refreshing that she’s not overly pretty, but instead looks like a person you may actually encounter in the real world. She’s the character that I find shows the most believable responses to the outbreak, e.g. she snaps at people, cries, shows fear, laughs hysterically, pulls herself back together and so on. Her behaviour seems erratic at times, but that makes sense given the circumstances. I hope I’ll be able to keep her alive through the entire game, just to see what you have planned for her.

Hope this helps.

@JimD

Will we eventually find out what happened to Sean/Billie?

And yay, a bulletproof vest!

If teenagers and college students have less starting points and a discount then it’d depend on how stat points are gained and how much of a starting stat point penalty they have. Don’t want them OP or UP either.

This balancing thing is a headache lol.

Hey Jim I’m trying to play this game again but since I have to go throu the same beging my hearts not in it. Don’t get me wrong I like the promise of this game it’s just a strugle for me to get past that short proluge.

want to use one my passwords to start from chpt2? you could help the password sharing idea I hade become a thing? Plus I have loads of passwords saved now

@adamthecowdog Just play through it once and have it email a password to you at a certain point that you want to keep replaying from.

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!

That and Teenager are my thing, man!

@EmperorHeartless
I’m still of the opinion that they shouldn’t have any penalties for getting skills, but by default they have no preferred skills so they don’t get one or two stats they can raise easy. That way you’re trading off easy leveling in some skills for the ability to master whatever you want (ie if a normal character can master 2 predetermined preferred skills and 1 other skill, a college student or teenager can choose 3).

I’m all for discount on skills, but 1 to no mastery. Just trying to find a compromise for the opinions people have been laying out so far. Seems like college student and teenager are quite popular (haven’t tried college student yet. Probably will soon) so people don’t want them to be nerfed, but we can’t have them be OP either. So just need to find the right balance for them

Imo
Teenager - Discount on skills, starting stat points less than usual, but with the ability to gain more stat points than most classes as time goes on (shows propensity to learn new skills and traits and improve upon old ones), if they gain more skill points than other classes I’d say the discount on skills only goes up so far maybe lvl 4 or 5 (I believe master is 7?)

College student - Like the teenager, but a bit less of a discount on all skills, but a larger discount or a discount that applies to higher levels of a skill depending on what skills are associated with their declared major.
Also gain more skill points as time goes on, but not as much as a teenager.
To me that shows a college students ability to learn, but that their also more centrallized in certain skills.

What does everyone else think?

I like your idea, it has sense I never played as a Teenager because it’s totally against my role-playing style. And because teenagers are just drama queens shouting and crying each second. Oh x person doesn’t know who i am committed suicide

@poison_mara Haha no teen drama isn’t that bad. What do you do for your role-playing style?

@JimD is the link down? Or maybe it’s just me. I can’t seem to get the demo to load. I’ll try again later when I’m home.
Anyone else having issues with the link?

I have problems with certain paths being unavailable and asking for reload page.

And about my role-playing style You must be newie, lol. I am always talking about it. Basically, neutral/chaotic evil characters (normally women) with High charisma and intelligence but really low strength. Persuade, betrayal and poison hideous weapons are their mastering. So in fantastic settings they are rogues assassins, bards or backstabing politicians.
Here basically Con art or movie stars. haker or scientific could do. A teenager in a high school has not the correct background and I hate teens in stories so nope, no teens

@5ubzer0 thanks for catching all of these errors!

For claustrophobic in the vent, if your will is high you will stay in the tunnel. You still take a stress hit.

I worried that people would think Jillian is the Heather of this game but I am trying to show her as vastly different.

@NJG absolutely!

@EmperorHeartless I have a plan for teens and college students worked out.

Everyone interested, please provide feedback.

  1. All classes/professions besides college student and teenager will have three preferred skills (one primary and two secondary) and start with 45 skill levels. Homemakers will choose their 3 in their prologue.
  2. Past character creation, all skills will cost new level + 2 to raise. So going from Driving 3 to 4 costs 6 points. To raise a primary skill, one level will cost new level -2 (e.g. Medicine from 5 to 6 costs 4 for a doctor and 8 for an engineer).
  3. Past character creation, secondary skills will cost new level - 1 (e.g. Leadership from 5 to 6 costs 5 for a doctor and 8 for an engineer).
  4. Teenagers will receive 10 less skill levels to start and no primary and no secondary skills. They may master 3 skills of their choosing. After character creation, all new skills cost new level (e.g. Crafting from 1 to 2 costs 2 points).
  5. College Students will receive 5 less skill levels to start and no secondary skills. They may pick one “major” during their prologue, which becomes their primary skill. They may master 2 other skills of their choosing. After character creation, all new skills cost new level + 1 (e.g. Crafting from 1 to 2 costs 3 points).

Here’s a link to a spreadsheet with the data for those interested.

@EmperorHeartless the site should be up now. My host was having unplanned downtime.

  1. I like it. Tbh, I kinda dislike the teenager and college student since it’s like a jack of all trades even though I completely understand the reason why.

  2. I like it. It makes me spend more skill points on my primary skill.

  3. Again, more skill points.

  4. Seems fair. I like it when my MCs focus on stuff.

  5. I like it that the college student focuses on their major and not other skills.
