Zombie Exodus: Safe Haven: Part Three Discussion Thread

Yup. @JimD, is it possible that Madison and Brody’s votes are swapped?

That would make sense.

Edit: I have a question if my MC has delusions as one of her challenges does the level of mental health affect it?

I’m quite pleased to see the morale mechanic is fixed as of the latest update. Thank you.

The only other major bugs I’m getting as of now are Jude being alive when I’m pretty sure I killed him and looted his corpse and the Group Offensive and Group Defense values seeming to fluctuate randomly. I understand the values rising or falling with training, new members, losses, or bad allegiance/morale, but I think another look at the code for those values might be worth it.

It’s great to see part 3 published! I like that Jaime overrules me when I ask to take Madison and when I ask to take Monica and the others with us at the end. Him being the leader as opposed to the MC has real consequences to the point that I’ll probably vote for a different leader next time.

By the way, I remember there being an option to mourn or bury your pet if they die somehow, I’m not sure if I missed it or it was removed? Also, it makes sense that you can’t keep being a pacifist past part 1, but it’d be a really nice touch if we could mention that to an NPC, like we did with Sifer, maybe Church would be a good candidate. It could even incur some sort of penalty if the first time we kill a zombie is during the battle for the hill, because it’s a more high-stakes situation. It was really great playing again, it was interesting to see Kelly actually feeling at home with the Silverthornes.

A word of advice to blur spoilers: when you write a reply on forum, you’ll see a gear icon on the upper toolbar above the text box. Touch the gear icon and the option list that includes blur spoilers will appear.

My MC (I choosed that she is bisexual at the beginning) never showed any interest in Lopez besides being friendly and she didn’t interact with him during the prom. And I thought he is supposed to be interested in Tommy (also isn’t Lopez prefering guys?). So is this another bug?

@JimD

Small bugs:

I am unable to equip scopes and suppressors for my weapons in Parts 2 and 3 (or are they assumed to be always on my ranged weapons?). I was able to before.

Completed construction projects (such as the Infirmary, which is complete, the Chicken Coop, and the Workshop, which also is complete, but has the same problem as the Infirmary used to have) show up in the Part 3 “Improvements for the Junkyard” menu.

The food provided by the vegetable garden and greenhouse is not showing up (is this on purpose because most veggie seeds take time to grow?) in Rachel’s notes.

For some reinforcement projects and the vegetable garden, the assigned characters do not revert back to “unassigned” upon completion of the task.

On a Female MC/Woody playthrough, at the beginning of part 8, Rosie enters the conversation when MC and Woody are talking about the Junkyard’s viability as a long-term residence.

Small request: I wonder if we could have an “Improved Science Lab/Improved Infirmary” similar to the Improved Workshop, except it allows us to synthesize things like antibiotics, first-aid kits (both recharging them and so that everyone can take one with them when scavenging/hunting/fishing/exploring), vitamin supplements (probably not in pill form) and possibly even insulin.

You know what would be super awesome? It would be great if we could use our persuasion to make people change their minds on who they vote for. No point in nominating someone if it doesn’t work 100%. I understand that perhaps allowing Kelly to become leader would require too much coding, but perhaps our persuasion could at least make people change their minds regarding Jamie and Rachel.

Thank you very much. Blurred the spoiler

@JimD

I have Lopez as li but I am wondering why right after my dance with him on the prom, he just kissed Tommy? Was it a bug? There wasn’t any choice to confront him either. After that when we left the junkyard, I brought the two of them with me and they kissed again but the MC didn’t care. Was it really supposed to be like that?

@JimD: I think I might have identified the Lopez bug (or at least one of them): if you’re dating him, his name changes to Cristian, but if you’d already set him as your main or secondary RO, that name remains Lopez, so the code will see that the MC is dating “Lopez”, meaning that “Cristian” is free to date Tommy.

Missing word in chapter 12.

That’s he moves along the side of your group and several feet back, you can now see a sniper rifle strapped to his back,

Put ‘how’ after the bolded word.

I want to start by saying a huge congratulations to @JimD for the release of the colossal Part 3. You’ve outdone yourself. Truly. I cannot stop gushing about the game.

I’d been away from the game, the forums and even the world for a long time. I was dealing with things and found that I’d isolated myself for so long that life went by without me.

Even in those moments, my heart was always with this game.

Still, I missed a lot of the development and the guilt ate me up. The day I decided to check in, I found out that Part 3 was released. Not about to be released. Not in a week. Released. Ready for download. I recall dropping my phone, pushing my breakfast oats away and standing up with my hands on my head for a good minute. I was stunned. Once I recovered, I played whenever I could.

I realised how difficult it was to jump straight into things again. I knew I wanted to start from the very beginning even though I had a few characters saved for Part 3. I wanted to get the full experience again and have those “Oh yeah” moments. The process of building a solid character took days. Actual days. I was looking ahead, thinking of who the character would romance, save, kill, trust, rob, befriend and hate, and the skills they’d have. I had to work backwards because I know the game so intimately. That’s what made the process of settling on a character take so long.

After scrapping various characters at different points in the game and restarting over and over again, I settled on a smart college girl who was on a journey to find her place in the world. Her name is Parvati.

Anyway, I blazed through Part 1 and 2 with her, smiling at all the moments I never forgot. Then I reached part 3. The excitement came to a boil.

I’d beta tested the early versions of Part 3 and provided feedback so I had my phone pressed right up against my nose as I played through. Everything was fleshed out, the imagery was vivid, the characters were stellar and the pacing was solid. I haven’t sat down to dig through the full code yet but I could tell at a glance that Part 3’s complexity is unmatched.

I only want to touch on some highlights now as it’s almost 3am (edit: 4am) as I write this. I could not contain myself. I just finished the game. I intend to post more in-depth reports later.

The introduction of the various factions was terrific. I like that each group is very distinct. My favourite right now has to be The Silverthorne Militia:

I loved how complex the group has become. It was easy to see them as another group of bruisers but they’ve been fleshed out so extensively and we still don’t have the full picture.

The way you incorporated the use of money (on a metagame level) with the group’s modus operandi was just genius to me. I had my own image of how the group functioned back when Part 2 was the new update. I got the impression that the militia were like the Saviors from the earlier seasons of The Walking Dead and I believe you set this up cleverly so you could catch us by surprise when we see what the group really is.

I was pleasantly surprised. Pleasantly shocked, rather.

The whole economy of the group is so intriguing. If the world is going back to normal one day, of course you’ll need you’ll need money to pay rent and buy milk for that day! Man, there’s so much to unpack about the Silverthornes now. I love it.

Part 3’s missions really impressed me. I did playtest research facility before but it was cool to play it again.

I did die there though. Quite suddenly, I felt. When we were pushing into the building and came upon those two zombies charging toward the door by reception, I thought I could take them with my Kukri since it did well in close quarters before. And my skill was at Advanced. Two zombies in a tight space should have been possible but I missed my swing and game over. That was rough.

The rest of the mission I enjoyed. Once I returned from heaven.

The Museum mission was fantastic. I was TENSE the entire time. Parvati is very perceptive so I knew something about the whole group was off the second we found Gilbert ‘stuck’ in the ravine.

I was so paranoid when we entered the museum. Seeing Jude’s ghillie suit and the RMBC jacket on the washing line made my heart punch against my chest. At one point, I thought the museum crew were cannibals and they were feeding us human-flesh patties and hot dogs! I was slightly disappointed they weren’t but the whole mission was excellent. Had me on my toes the whole time. Superbly executed.

The shootout that later ensued was something out of a summer blockbuster.

It’s been pointed out before but the only glaring issue I had with the mission was Bailey teleporting in when I didn’t bring her with us.

And, of course, how could I not mention the mission to scout the Lancelot depot? The original Zombie Exodus nostalgia was soooo strong. Again, I was TENSE the entire time. The communication with the Vanguards and later the New Army was really well done. I especially loved Goodman asking me to confirm my location. That was such a heart pounding moment. Then he sent a unit over and I felt like I had to run for my life. I was already late on my return and I couldn’t risk a confrontation. Riveting moments all around.

The romance scenes were such a joy.

Such. A. Joy.

I had to screenshot some moments to savour that shot my brows through the roof! Tasteful and steamy and very tender. I melted several times.

All in all, this cements ZESH as one of the best ever. I’ve only done one playthrough but I’m so excited to do more and analyse the insane code.

Well done, Jim. I could go on and on. And I shall.

Been noticing a lot of issues/bugs with this release, from the romance options overlapping and superseding others oddly: For example, being interested in Rachel and Jillian, yet having the option to change romances being Jillian and Jillian. Quite a number of typos/grammar issues as well but overall not bad of a part three. Will say though, I do kinda hope for a future with Jillian and a certain possible thing in regards to her.

I found a bug. In one of my play throughs Lopez joins my group even though I never met him outside my house. Another bug I found is that if u kill him outside your house he still joins u

Man, what a character this Lopez is turning out to be LOL.

I liked Cristian in part 1 and 2. My male MC romanced him and iirc they had a talk on the hill about their relationship and he promised to commit(?). Overall he was one of my fav RO in the game after Jaime. However in part 3 he invited Jaime for 3some, checked out the guy in the forest and kissed Woody at the prom XD. Not sure if those are bugs or not. I love the game (mostly Jaime lol) and i know we can decline Cristian’s 3some advance but still emotional damage.

Oh there was a bug during the conversation with Keith in which Benton appeared while he was captured and still at the junkyard.

When you choose to manage the greenhouse in part 3 as one of your tasks you are supposed to be able to plant two types of plants if you have the gardening hobby but after planting one type it brings you back to the task options and gives you this sentence. The sentence does not always show as marijuana seeds I just wanted to plant marijuana first.

Also, when you meet Drake during chapter 8 he is supposed to be able recognize you before the start of the museum fight but it doesn’t happen because ‘met_rmbc’ is false and does not become true even when you allow him into the junkyard and ally with his group during chapter 8.

I don’t know where to report bugs? This’ll have to do @JimD

  1. rachel as main ro bug: if you set rachel as main ro then her ro will be buggy at the end of chap 6. Pics

rachel ro bug

and beginning of part 2 day 3

rachel ro bug 2

Solution: the only way I could avoid this is picking 1st shift then going to watch duty together with her thus skipping the scene with second ro entirely.

  1. missing benton_join flag during subdue benton as hostage in chapter 7, not the reillybenton scene: without this players can’t queston benton in chapter 8.
  1. why do we take a hit on morality when we choose to take responsibility for jillian baby  chapter 12

#“Of course I want to be involved. We’re together, and this is my baby too,” I say and give her a hug to show her how much I care about her.
*set morality %-15
*set jillian_faction %+(round(empathy/6))
