Zombie Exodus: Safe Haven General Discussion (Part 3 beta coming in December)

Well… i do think Safe Haven had manage to best the original in term of diverse personality , world building and “mood” building …

The original is one of the best story telling HG for me, and it got me hook up with the world and its story … but i always felt that i had read it with a heavy heart because the mood was so somber , at least in Safe Haven there is a possible cheerfulness depend on our choice and style of playing , hence even in an end of world setting, there was still “joy” in our chosen path, which i felt was encouraging

Ah. I never thought of that. Thank you! I can certainly see what you mean. (Cliche incoming), your writing has actually entertained more than a lot of AAA video games and has even helped me at times when I was down or simply wanted to dive into another world for a bit.

I appreciate your thoroughness with the answers!

Another question, if you don’t mind so: do you also find it challenging to come up with multiple characters who are all different enough with their appearances, motivations, personalities, and quirks? What helps you with this? Do you base a lot of them off real life people?

I know, that really bugged my imagination from time to time :joy:

I have a file I keep of unique traits or people I encounter in real life or in shows I see and as I need to develop characters I consider personalities that would be interesting or express a new view of the world.

Hey Jim I hate Patreon, but I love Brody. Is there any way I can just make a one time payment for their side story?

Very interesting! Thank you for letting me bug you with an interview. :joy: That’s all I wanted to ask. I’ll be keeping an eye on this thread. Can’t wait for more of your stuff.

I will be bundling all of the short stories later this year if you can wait. Patrons will get the ebook for free. I’ll put it on Amazon too.

Yay!
Hopefully a real paper book, that would be nice.

Having been here as long as I have been now and having lived through the whole development process of things like XoR, I think you can intuit the answer to that.

I really prefer larger one time payments that don’t get me the feeling of being nickled and dimed and let the banksters don’t nickle and dime me for real.

Do you guys think the Makarov’s are or would be members of Keith’s Silverthorne Militia because of their willingness to rob and kill other people ?

Hopefully not… else Kelly’s who had been kidnap by Keith is in real trouble

Oh! Are you one of the few people that doesn’t see Kelly as a liability or zombie bait and actually want’s to save her !?

You’re saying that as though anyone would be fully prepared to face a zombie disaster at the drop of a hat (not much time has passed since the Zombie invasion started).

Why should it be surprising that some of the members aren’t really prepared to face either the zombie disaster or the kinds of effects this disaster can bring out in people. That’s like expecting my little in-game Nephew to be fully skilled as a hunter; it’s not really gonna happen time passes and he develops more experience.

Granted, I’m not saying Kelly isn’t the weakest link of the group in Part 2 (because she kind of is); I’m just saying that I personally can hardly fault her for some of her actions (especially when one takes into account her personality and where her more natural skills really lay).

Of course, everyone is going to have different reasons for wanting to save a character, so I certainly can’t speak for each person’s reasons for trying to save her if she gets kidnapped (luckily, that hasn’t happened to me as of yet).

They seem like the type that are all about their own self-preservation than being part of a group. I could only really see the Makarovs joining someone if they were either captured or the group can offer something that the Makarovs really desire.

But then again, the Makarovs are kind of mystery right now, so I could be wrong.

I’m not saying Kelly or anyone for that matter would be a full blown killing machine built for that kind of apocalypse. Hell none of us know if we would even survive the first day let alone 3 hours and for that I don’t hate her. I just think her naivete makes her an easy target to manipulate which is what Keith probably thought. I just think that she or anyone for that matter shouldn’t trust some random stranger that just roles up and saves your life in a zombie apocalypse and decide to tell this person where your group lives and not expect them to rob or kill you. Sure there could be good people that you could come across but if you’re with other people who depend on you I don’t think you should put them at risk just because you have faith in humanity.

I made a raider alpha group. Focus in raid and destroy My character is evil as hell. To have killed half of roster cold blood. Kelly behaves like a spoiled rat little redin hood lost in world. Because absolutely any of her action has sense in a raider group.I mean she believes like saint naivete. My character first action will be killed her in a pire for stupid. Kill survivors not show them how to reach my damn camp …

If a zombie apocalypse ever breaks out, I’m avoiding your group at all costs. Lol

When it comes to running the group I’m more of a prioritize the safety of the group and scavenge what you need but if someone tries to kill us we will kill you. I think the recruit every survivor you meet is foolish because you don’t know who you’re letting in not to mention you’ll have more mouths to feed and there’s only so much you can get by scavenging before you have to start growing.

@CreoleGuy519

There’s no denying that Kelly a rather big mistake (one that did put the group at risk). But to describe the matter as though very few MCs would try to go back to save her (should they fail to prevent her kidnapping) seems like a major hyperbole.

Everyone is bound to screw up at some point and make a mistake; to condemn someone to an unknown fate with a deadly group like the Silverthornes seems rather harsh (and possibly out of character for a number of MCs that a few of us readers have).

For the record, when I asked if you were one of the few people that doesn’t see her as a liability I was being sarcastic because it seems to me a lot people don’t like Kelly and would push her into a horde of the undead just to get rid of her Of course I could be wrong but I haven’t seen many people say they would save her. In short I was only joking about the minority of people who would save her I believe they do exist(I just haven’t seen or heard them be as vocal as the kill Kelly crew) and personally I wouldn’t leave her to die simply because she made this mistake. I just hope she doesn’t make it again and I get see a character development arc for her similar to Carol form the walking dead where she start’s off as meek scared of everything around to confident capable member that people have come to rely on.

Well… My way of thinking is to gather enough companions that are trust worthy and who i am comfortable with for an unforseen future … Kelly and the others are nice enough person who i am glad to be with, even with Dante, Rosie and drivers …

She had her mistake , but she was regretful after that … no harm done, it is a challenge but fun to parley with different personalities in a group , especially when i manage to influence Kelly to vote me as leader too :-)

That being saying, i won’t want to be with Keith’s group of individual , Tom and that bandit from original zombie exodus, as well as Lapu of Haven rising…

Kelly is alright, since i am running a happy go lucky group …
