WIP: Through Olympus (working title) [Update: 02/09/2021]

ah, i actually didn’t know that! i’m still trying to figure out how it all works so thanks for looking out!

Yeah, totally! There’s a CS wiki that’s super helpful for learning the commands and such; this is the article for label:

And from there you can see all sorts of other helpful coding tidbits!

Happy coding!

The thing is this is a romance game and from what I got from the description of both Artemis and Athena they don’t seem to be the “romantic” type and are more of a very slow burn type of character.

Now after they are changed back to being asexual you basiclly take the biggest part of the slow burn archetype which is:

1- longing

2- sexual tension

so what’s the point of having 2 ROs who are not really romantic and are not sexual in a romance game?

“Of course, but why does it have to remove them being asexual/aromatic which is a big part of all their myths and stories?”

I get your point and I understand that one of the most amazing things about COG/HG is the many different representation that it has but how are they going to work as ROs then if the auther made them aro/ace?

The author has already made them both asexual, but not aromatic which is fine.

Yes they are not aromantic but they are not romantic either.

Usually there would be RO who is very sexual but is aro and that way you get all the sexual tension since there is no romance

or

There would be RO who is very lovey dovey but is ace so that way you get all the romance since there is no sexual tension

Here both ROs are ace now and both already don’t seem romantic and if I didn’t know any better I would think that Athena is aro too.

And? They already are not outgoing characters, making them not asexual wouldn’t magically change one of them to being lovey dovey. They’re both already reserved. There’s two other ROs if them being asexual bothers you so much.

Also just because they are reserved doesn’t mean they’re not romantic. From the tumblr it already shows Artemis and Athena as being romantic and you being their first relationship.

It’s up to the author how to interpret the “slow burn” aspect of the game, including whether or not they want to include the “sexual tension” aspect of it. To me, slow burn has always meant any romantic relationship that develops slowly, with or without sex, so clearly that interpretation isn’t the only possible one.

And like @Artemis1 mentioned, the author has already made the decision to make them both ace. The final decision whether or not to change this rests with the author and no one else.

People like having different varieties of personality and romantic expression in their games. Not every character is required to be extremely romantic and “lovey-dovey” and there are people who prefer characters who are a little bit more cold or reserved at first. Just look at how popular Ava/Adam from the Wayhaven series is. Also, in the character description for Artemis, it says she starts off as cold but will eventually warm up to you, which is like the epitome of “slow-burn”.

Ava/Adam have a lot of sexual tension in their route that’s why.

Also don’t act like the author made them this way when they didn’t until everyone started to demand that they become ace.

Also as for not romancing the other 2 ROs I’m not into guys so that won’t happen.

“Artemis, it says she starts off as cold but will eventually warm up to you, which is like the epitome of “slow-burn”.”

That’s why I said "

Artemis and Athena’s character descriptions have always been the same since even before the author decided to make them ace. They were never changed afaik. Being ace doesn’t have to have any bearing on their personalities and you shouldn’t assume that it does without first checking to see if that’s the case.

And nobody “demanded” the author to make all the characters ace. We specifically requested Athena and Artemis because that’s what they were in the original myths, and the author listened to the feedback and decided to implement it. That’s their prerogative and if you have a problem with that, I suggest you find a different game more suited to your tastes.

Your argument was that both of those characters are not really romantic. I used Artemis specifically as a counterexample because it says in her description that she eventually will warm up to you and become more romantic. And again, being “cold” and “calculating” is not what makes someone aro; aro = not experiencing romantic attraction. Someone who is cold and calculating can still fall in love and have romantic relationships. I suggest you wait for the game to develop these relationships and characters further without jumping to conclusions about what they will or won’t be like.

Yes my arguement was both characters seem to be not romanitc but I said Athena seemed to be aro not that she was but seemed to be.

The author made those characters not ace at first that was their idea and how they wanted it to be but then everyone gave their “feedback” instead of like you said went to find a different game more suited to their tastes.

You gave your feedback and now I’m giving mine. I don’t think it’s a good idea for a romance game to have both female ROs be cold and distant and also ace.

Edit: What was offensive about what I wrote? Just because I have a diffeent opinion does not make it offensive BUT I agree this is going no where so there no point to keep going back and forth anymore.

And my argument is that by saying she “seemed to be”, you’re essentially saying that aro people project a certain type of personality or that they’re more cold and reserved, which is not true.

There are already so many games catering to allosexual people out there. There are hardly any games featuring ace ROs, and even fewer that get it right. Hell, many romance games don’t even allow the player to be asexual.

And my point wasn’t that people shouldn’t give feedback. My point is that no one can force the author to change their mind about something. People should be able to make requests and appeals to the author, but no one can force the author to change their mind and if that’s not something you can accept you should move on to a different game instead of arguing with people in the thread.

This is what I meant. No one is saying you can’t give feedback. But once you’ve said your piece, if the author decides not to implement your suggestion you should move on rather than complaining and arguing in the thread.

And I brought up the reasons why I think it’s fine. You do realize that this discussion isn’t going to go anywhere if it keeps going like this? The final decision, like I said so many times before, is up to the author. Arguing and belaboring the same points over and over again in a thread that’s meant to provide constructive feedback for a game isn’t going to get us anywhere.

I’m ending the discussion here, because I think it’s become pretty circular by now. We’ve been arguing back and forth long enough and neither of us have brought up anything new for a while.

I’m sorry, @aranea, for cluttering up the thread with my replies, and I will try to provide some feedback for the actual game after this.

Just my two cents as someone who doesn’t have a horse in this race, so to say; characters being aromantic and/or asexual is not the problem, in fact, it’s kind of rare (imo) to see that represented. But there’s a reason this is rare in games containing romances, and that’s because sex/sexual tension really do sell. The problem here, then, would be that both (female) ROs are ace, leaving no alternatives, - aka no variety. The solution, if not wanting to change a character, would be to add a third RO with a more “traditional” romance.

But this is something ultimately for the author to decide, because as someone who builds the story and characters, the author would know what fits. And it’s impossible to please everyone, so just do what you feel is best.

It’s all just imho, of course. Good luck with the game, no matter what you decide~

Once you state your position for the author, please move on. restating your position multiple times is circular argument which is against forum rules and leads to suspensions.

Everyone has been warned.

Um… a bit out of left field here but is it just me or does anyone else have a weird blue box that encase the story area? Or is it just me? (It’s not any mistake from my end. I already check to see if it was the copy function and refreshed the page)

Also with the waking up scene, I pick the “getting up” option but it leads me to the response meant for rolling back to sleep.

hi, thanks for reporting! following the advice of a lovely user here in this thread (thank you so much for the help @TheCuriousEye!) , i decided to switch to labels instead of separate files and as a result messed the code up a little! it should be fixed by now, and the proper texts for each option should be showing up correctly. as for the blue screen, i haven’t encountered that yet when i tested the game on my phone. it might be the browser you’re using, i think?

This was fun! I enjoyed how the setting is Demeter taking Persephone back, and that we’ll be able to side with Olympus or the Underworld. I liked all the characters we’ve met so far, especially Hermes, and how the descriptions of the throne room added to the MC’s dread of Hades. I also enjoyed the choices that develop the MC’s character, especially the repeated options for sleeping.

One thing I noticed, though, is that although we’re supposed to be spying for the Underworld (and for the MC’s loved ones), we aren’t really shown much of either. The only descriptions of the Underworld we do get are negative (the walls being dead and hollow, the ride to the surface being gruesome), and the MC sometimes reacts as if they haven’t lived there their entire life (such as wanting to scream at the gruesome surface ride). The few good aspects, like how the MC likes to talk to the dead and their collection of trinkets, we are only told about and don’t actually get to see for ourselves. As for loved ones, while we do meet Nyx we don’t really interact with anyone else besides Hades, making the Underworld seem empty.

There were also moments in the narrative which have the MC act in a certain way even if it contradicts the choices given to the player. An example would be if the player chooses the “No” option when answering Hades – it notes that the MC doesn’t have a problem with spying, but then the page after that the MC acts as though they do. Or, if the player decides to lie to Hades, it seems odd that the MC would be so ready to tell Hermes the truth of not knowing who he is.

By the way, what does the MC do? I saw in one of the posts that the story won’t mention their background, but the start does bring up paperwork. Perhaps you could add more details as to what that paperwork is for so that the player gets a better sense of the MC’s place in the Underworld.

Looking forward to meeting Zeus! :relaxed:
