[WiP] The Golden Eagle

That is correct. So far that’s exclusive to the noble MC.

Just checking if I missed something, but thanks.
If it wasn’t this would hardly be the first Crown Prince to have a common-born lover, or two.

I thought maybe it could be because I choose the “I’m not on good terms with the rest of my family” when asked by that landlady woman. I mean that did feel natural to me, why else would a prosperous merchant family send one of their sons away to risk life and limb in a mostly senseless war, but to get rid of the brat? (and quite cleverly do it in such a way that it furthers, rather than diminishes their social standing too).

Well there’s the possibility of attaining nobility. It is stated that knighthood opens the possibility of being granted a small title of nobility. But more than likely it is as you said, they just want to get rid of the brat.

He knows what he did.

Given the heavy French Revolutionary vibe in the air in this game, that might be a very stupid move to make. It is also expressly stated that, should we win that particular honour, it’s possible to just accept the medal and the citation while refusing the knighthood and nominal elevation to the nobility that normally comes with it.

Considering that I still think we’ll end up as a small town schoolteacher in the epilogue, it hardly seems to matter anyway.

Most likely any number of things involving spending way too much money on various definitions of “fun”. In my case in addition to being gay, which judging by the lovely couple we meet on the carriage ride, while not viewed quite as negatively as in our world does seem to impact and limit one’s social standing by a fair amount.

It seems a stupid move to make to us because we know how shit went down, but to the people living in the story it might seem like a very sensible thing to do. Why wouldn’t someone who wants to move up in the world try to join the ruling class?

I disagree, we’ll be legends. :smirk:

Spending another person’s money is one way to get yourself shipped off to war.

Is that what you got out of that scene? I thought their problems were the result of them each being from a different country/nation/kingdom. I’ll have to read that scene again more carefully.

@RanchoJoe Yes, there will be a more significant effect to your decisions in the war.

A bit of Column A, a bit of Column B. I’m very glad that you two find the scene open to interpretation.

And yes, that is the only thing you will get an answer to at the moment. The other stuff is slowly coming into play…

Badly underpaid and under-appreciated “legends” by that point, it it would seem.

Because the immediate benefits are quite small, while the immediate drawbacks are rather big.
Said ruling class will never quite accept the mc as “one of them” and will always continue to regard him as a “pretender” of sorts.
It usually takes a generation or two for that sentiment to fade and considering my mc isn’t going to reproduce it kind of loses its significance, along with any potential advantages it might have had in his case, especially with the added social impact being gay would have on his already meagre standing with them.
Lastly my mc would rather spend what money he does earn on things that are genuinely fun instead of “keeping up appearances”.

Dafuq? How about a tease then? :triumph:

  • Our dearest Adelard stop our very deepest congratulations on commission and continued successes against the enemy stop we are very proud of you and wait to see you again stop with regards père mère stop.

  • The part in bold should be italicized.

  • so glad you are in good health stop we await your return to us stop we have made you have a place to study if you cannot remain in military stop père mère stop

  • The part in bold is a bit off. As it is phrased now, it seems as if the MC was forced into having a place to study in case they could not remain in the military. Perhaps the following is a bit more clear:

     - _so glad you are in good health_ stop _we await your return to us_ stop _we have made you a place to study if you cannot remain in military_ stop _père mère_ stop

Found a small typo that I couldn’t ignore cause I’m in a Grammar Nazi mood today: :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Although you do not know what it would require, what it would demand in the future, and what sacrifices it would force, something calls for you in the unknown.

This comes after you decide that you want to be a part of the Experimentals one year into the Academy

Also, what are the requirements for the two branches of Chapter III again? I managed to get the military branch before but now I’m stuck to the university branch…

Basically, you need to have a good relation with the Comte. I forgot the Mr. Whiskuhs’ name but he’s the one you meet on the train.

Huh…well I loaned him my lighter and told him that the mountain pass was just as important as the front. I think those are the only choices of consequence with him…

Also the question “how are you finding military life” or something like that is relevant to being sent as an observer. It also helps a little bit if you are not of noble origin.

Hmm, I must have chosen the second choice before instead of the first one then. Thanks!

I wonder what sort things we will run into if we go to the new world

Far too handsome natives, maybe ?

Rivers to ford and the ever-present danger of dysentery, but that’s only if the MC doesn’t die of scurvy during the voyage
