I would settle for one for one of our subordinates responding to an order with “Roger roger”
Is is worth trying to level all three stats to an equal level, or stick with one strong one and one okay-ish?
“You offer smile to one another, but there is a certain tension present.”
“Much closer than you though the enemy would be”
“As so” and so?
“the chevron on his sleeve identifies him as a Caporal”
“conduct yourself a proper officer.”
Another game by Goshman and one set in the Industrial Age! How did I miss this thread?
@RanchoJoe The socially acceptable answer is Episode III, but in my heart I know my favourite will always be Episode I. Despite Jar Jar, and politics shoved down our throat, and Anakin, and Midichlorians. I won’t dismiss the podracing though, that was actually really cool.
Episode I is the first and really only time we see the Jedi and what they stand for, and how they interact with the Galaxy before they are made into battlefield commanders. Also, Darth frigging Maul.
To avoid the storm that is bound to come from such a statement, I shall deflect criticism by pushing out an update to the demo. Enjoy!
Well in that case, I forgive you…
BTW, I actually preferred II over III simply because I thought it had a tighter plot. I never found myself able to buy into Anakin’s fall in III. The drastic change in the character’s personality was too sudden and not sufficiently supported by the events of the story. OTOH, III did have the best action scenes, including yoda in action, and that’s why it’s generally the most popular.
“watching his clear green eyes as the sixteen-year-old suddenly slumps to the ground with horror in her eyes”
During the battle of Champ Verruqueuse, when choosing to strike deep into the enemy.
“Well then, it appears your journey will continue together even further together.”
One too many togethers
I really enjoyed the updates. This is definitely one of the best works in progress on the forum. Please keep the updates coming!
The train comes to a slow crawling stop, and you spot the train operator peek out his head. The light on the very front of the train (I’m assuming a word is missing here) some of the soldiers along the yard for only a brief moment before the cone of light moves past and points up towards the track leading to the mines, but it appears the operator has not seen them. With a great big hiss and a plume of water vapour, the train halts beside the platform and you see it in all its glory. Behind the engine is a large coal hopper, followed by empty hopper after hopper, finally ending in four cargo wagons at the far end. One of the cargo wagons’ large doors unlatches and begins sliding open.
You hear the sounds of the Szabári language as people begin to emerge from the cargo wagons, and you peer out through the window to see a large group of enemy infantrymen file out and begin forming into a loose formation. It appears that de Paquet has seen this as well, and hurries over to you.
Well I asked about the prequels jsut to see if I can push your buttons but of course you had a well and thought-out answer for it, @Goshman Cheers for the update. I’m enjoying it so far (there are some minor typos here and there)
This is a very interesting topic. I look forward to seeing it progress.
Noticed two tine errors on my last playthrough:
“Oh, Simon is positively horrid influence on you, Messieur,”
I think you forgot an a there: “Oh, Simon is a positively horrid influence on you, Messieur,”
And a simply typo here
We fell in love from afar, but I was to otimid to attempt anything. Remove the errant o before timid.
Otherwise great work on this game thus far @Goshman
Hope we get to the parts that have more of the cute cadet soon (and yes, that will always be my nickname for de Martal, he’s just adorable, except for the bad habit of smoking at his tender age, of course).
Another update is out! I think you folks will really like this one.
EDIT: If you just started, you should refresh. I fixed a quick omission.
Any chance for a save feature? The game is becoming long and we always need to start at the beginning.
Your Compagnie fights bravely on either side of you, thrusting into the formidable Grenadiers with all they have to muster.
*if ((unit_strength > 50) and (enemy_strength >= 80)) (check is reversed actually)
Lies.

He has been sent to assess the threat of the Szabári, and will be commanding a relief force of Dragoons from beyond Montignerac if it necessary to withdraw that far," Colonel de Reyer says and stands up, her eyes on the burly man with a great big ivory pipe hanging from his lips.[/quote]

Love the new update and love even more that I can finally see my awards/medals.
@Urban Aye, a save system would be possible to implement, but it wouldn’t do you any good. I’m still adding, changing, and removing variables. That means that even with a save system in place, it would easily become junk data and cause an error that would force you to restart the whole thing anyways.
@cascat07 Thank you for pointing that out. Fixed.
@CaballeroDeAndromeda Yeah, the count is a wee bit off… The war chapter alone is over 45k words at this point. I’ve fixed it with the correct tally, which is closer to 67k.
I’ve found some possible typos:
“Quite a garish situation. Not to mention completely unnecessary. The Kings have been at each others throats for well over a decade, and they finally managed to manufacture a reason to fight one another and destroy and entire generation of able-bodied soldiers. They’ve ground themselves into a standstill and continue to push more and more people into an endless slaughter. I cannot even fathom what their response will be to the Empire’s involvement if your army continues to push out past the border. If you do try, I can only imagine it will be ruthless resistance the entire way.”
(the above was before the recent update)
After one particularly annoying day of drilling near camp, with a setting sun casting long shadows, you call the Sergeants to you and hatch a fresh plan. Some of the men in the formations swivel around and whisper, wondering what is going on. You call for them to stand at attention and the lazily straighten up, but relax as soon as your gaze leaves them. After a few words with the Sergeants and a plan hatched, you order them back into formation and step up in front of the Section, your hand resting on the hilt of your sword.
(placeholder for formatting)
The battle begins in full with the first volley of the 1er Compagnie, who then begin a steady riddle of bullets on the enemy as they fan out from column into line formations. Form the hurried nature of their moves, it is clear that the Szabári are surprised by both the range and firepower being fielded on your side, but it only pushes them to be even more formidable in the face of your fire. The Grenadiers stomp their feet steadily as they approach and finally reach the range of their own rifle-muskets, with the front of their army bursting into spark and smoke.
Hmm, I see we’ve arrived at the first branch of the game. I’m glad I tried not visiting the MC’s family in one of my playthroughs.
A question: is there/will there be there a technical difference between firing at the Szabari immediately after they rout the company ahead of you versus waiting a bit and then firing? I tried both and it seemed like the difference is minimal, a change in tone/the MC’s intentions (the lack of change in idealism/cynicism can be justified either way, I think). The outcome remains more or less the same. The last option, on the other hand, does affect your unit stats differently.
A couple of questions:
-
What exactly is the Soradour Circle? So far it sounds like “something that did something”. I’m alright with you dropping some knowledge on us.
-
Are we going to come across that member of the MC’s house who became the Crown Prince’s lover or are they no longer alive?
-
Are we going to hear more about their exploits?
I assume that this bit is exclusive to noble mc’s, as I don’t remember reading about it.
I played a noble and I don’t really remember it…
