Aww, thanks!
Um about the âitâ thingâŚ
It kinda sounds like youâre gonna have that be the default thing then in chapter 1?
For trans and nonbinary people that might get a little triggering because referring to people as âitâ rather than their preferred pronouns borders on dehumanizing and thatâs a lot of stuff that we have to go through.
Wouldnât that be the point though calling the robot it, I mean for someone unsure or leaning on the humanist side, not recognize the AI machine as being something truly not human or alive. And to be fair at the beginning im assuming that the mc knowlege of robots only extended as far as mechanical non human looking ones. The choice to define the AI should come fairly sooner rather then later though.
That might be the intention but this doesnât exist in a vacuum; leaving it so the protagonist calls the robot âitâ until it is explicitly said âhey donât do thatâ might be triggering for people, especially if theyâre playing a nonbinary protagonist and they have to see a nonbinary person do that to another being.
Personally I think just referring to the robots as âtheyâ or âzieâ or one of the nonbinary pronouns would be the best idea, or include that option in a choice to select the genders of the npcs.
Fair point and the alternative solutionâs sound good, ultimately itâs up to enterprisi but donât see why it canât be done.
A problem of âzieâ âxeâ and other proposals would be that many players might not know these pronouns and be confused, possibly thinking itâs a spelling mistake. I think âtheyâ is a better choice for a gender-neutral pronoun in the game.
@WulfyK, well that can all be avoided with a little authorâs note at the beginning
âHey, by the way- xe meansâŚâ
@RedRoses I am sorry, I did not mean to cause an offense or triggering about that D:
Ok I am trying to think how to change itâŚ
Instead maybe can have the scientist introduce robot as a he/she/xe? But is the offense just applying to calling the human looking robot it, or is it offensive to call the not-human looking robots as well
I already found that âtheyâ does not work as a replacement for âitâ since itâs like, grammatically plural when talking in present tense (it says -> they says? not correct) so replacing it with a ${ } thing doesnât work, I am looking into using hir or similar instead. (âTheyâ works for the gender-neutral player, though)
Yeah âitâ is dehumanizing if they were people but as far as the player is concerned in the beginning theyâre just robots. So I honestly think youâre safe calling them âitâ until the player figures out what they want to call them or the robot tells you what it identifies as.
Personally Iâd prefer not to call anything with sentience âit.â
Would it work if the scientist maybe stated what their pronouns are like you said and then you have a choice at that point to ignore it and refer to the robots as âitâ or use the pronouns they selected? Is that a good compromise?
The thing is, in the beginning itâs possible to be completely pro-robot and not believe that, so if you do âitâ until then youâre forcing that on the character and youâre also forcing trans and nonbinary people to do that.
@RedRoses the thing is what counts as sentience then, we have to define. would all robots, even one with only very basic function be called as the xe/hir?
Having the scientist explicitly explaining that would be kind of distract from the flow of the description, can it be acceptable to just have the scientist calling them xe/hir from the get go and you follow that if you are pro-robot and continue with the âitâ if you are for humanists? and the pronoun just switch if your political affiliation changes?
Iâm sorry, trying to accommodate all opinions possible but balance it with not confusing the coding too much ^^â
@enterprisi I think if a robot is able to think, regardless of functions, they would have sentience. A baby is still sentient, and they can perform very little. At least, most babies, anyway.
Yeah, I think thatâll be a good compromise.
So it is ok if the xe just refers to the Geminus and the other robots are its, is fine?
Let me google that for ya.
âsen¡tient
Ësen(t)SH(Ä)Ént/
adjective
able to perceive or feel things.â
I donât think it makes sense for an anti robot person to call them by anything other than it (at least not intentionally) if theyâre really serious about dehumanizing them. Itâs part of their mental battle against their opponents to refuse to use their own terminology. The same way they call themselves âhumanistâ instead of the more accurate anti-robot.
Yes, I meant they would be called xe/hir, if the player chose to support the robot side of the politics (ThenâŚwhat would someone who choose to be neutral call them XD? âitâ as well?)
Update at last! Hurrah!
Most of the changes were adding a smattering of description here and there and fixing up the robot pronouns (speaking of which, is the little thing describing gender-neutral pronouns I have in the readme alright in content? itâs not well written at the moment but in theory has it got the right idea)
So, any questions, comments, concerns?

âCastor and Pollux were the first ones we made, so they werenât built with a particular specialisation in mind. They are slightly smaller and lighter than the later models, though, and can move faster because of that.â
âWhich pair would you like to know about?â
astor and Pollux.
Romulus and Remus.
Hypnos and Thanatos.
Artemis and Apollo.

the first choice is missing a letter

"I worked on the insides of the Gemini, so what do know is that the Geminus-Y have synthetic âmusclesâ that act similarly to human muscles, and have about the same number in the face and body.
i think there should be a i in the sentence like this:
"I worked on the insides of the Gemini, so what i do know is that the Geminus-Y have synthetic âmusclesâ that act similarly to human muscles, and have about the same number in the face and body.

The Gemini-Y wave to you as you leave. You take the lift up to the ground floor and get on the subway back to your apartment, where you shower, synthesize yourself a quick dinner, and eat it. Afterwards, you:
Eat some food.
Watch some tv.
Sleep.
this set of choices seems slightly confusing it says you just synthesized a quick dinner and ate it and the you have the first choice as âeat some food.â doesnât that seem slightly excessive
other than the previos note the game is going well i would say
Ahh, thank you for identifying those errors! iâll fix them up right away
I would just like to add a suggestion: Make sure to use a different line when a new character speaks. Such as in the lunch room scenes, dialogue goes âHeyâ âHeyâ, instead of
âHey,â
âHey!â
Which makes it a little tedious to read. Also, the scene where you go to the bar with Tracy seems messed up. Most of the options didnât show text after they were clicked, has it just not been completed yet?
Otherwise this is a very nice story! I enjoyed playing it and look forward to its continuation. I just wanna be with my robo friends.
The title Future Cops reminds me of this Hong Kong movie made way back in the 90âs
