Sure and its all well and good when he did it to the Ottomans but not so good when he decided to impale his own peasants for a scare tactic that didn’t really seem to work
huh, now I understand why he was called Dracula and I finally get why the author made lucifer to visit vlad, if u know what I mean
edit:and nooo what I am refering to is not anything lewd but the name Dracula means “son of Dracul.” In the Romanian language today, dracul means “the devil”—drac is “devil,” ul is “the”—but it is derived from the Latin dracō, “dragon.” (Dragons have been historically associated with Satan
This has been a great update.
The characters of Haley Choi, Sumerah Khan and Yoru are particularly interesting. Haley Choi from her actions in chap 2 seems like a precognitive though the ability seems to be limited wrt MC Janus.
Sumerah Khan as leader of the Praetors and survivor of Beijing seems to be a well crafted personality balancing institutional ruthlessnes with a individual awareness of its drawbacks. If this character has a motto it probably would be something like "For the Greater Good ". It would probably explain why the abuse of Praetors like Kaya and Haley by Hans was tolerated or Jordan the grandson of a elder was accepted in the ranks of Praetors. Her entire focus is on defeating the Elders at all costs. With the interlude section it’s clear that Sumerah Khan is the newest immortal - a higher tier of long-lived superpowered individuals with greater abilities…She will have to decide how to deal with the threat posed by Timur. Will she make peace with her present enemies to fight a greater threat would probably be seen in the future chapters .
Yoru still remains a mystery…Granted that she is the daughter of the shaded lady. Even if she is proficient in the use of her talents, she isn’t anywhere near to pose a danger to the Praetors. Why would so much effort be spent going after and trying to apprehend her ? While Sumerah Khan is ruthless, she clearly isn’t illogical. So there must be a reason why yoru has been designated as a threat . It will be interesting to see how this character evolves in the future chapters.
I loved the battle scenes. I am definitely looking forward to the future updates for Janus and Lucifer
Heya, after reading your wip i would just say, wow what a ride! I love the story premise so far, and the fable you pick is so interesting to explore especially janus, pele, and wukong imo.
I would like to ask about the fight scene in chapter 2, so beware massive spoiler ahead
the interaction between aloysha and haley at the end of battle, if i’m not mistaken after the battle with the mc, aloysha losing both his hand resulting that he having a stump thats been cauterized by his augment nature, then when mc chose to just knocked out cloud praetor, in haley pov, aloysha try to stop her by using his palm.
All in all i like the interlude of timurlenk introduction. Thats all, Have a nice day!
Among the Origins MCs, I feel like the top strongest in terms of pure power are Zeus, Pele and Sun Wukong. I did thought about adding Lucifer in that list but while their ability is super dangerous to get hit by, I don’t think it’s strong enough to beat the rest of the origins mcs. I tried to imagine if they have fought all of the origins mcs and came to the conclusion that they might not beat any of them except maybe Ishtar. Janus would most likely see it coming and kill/stop them before they try it, Wukong can probably tank it long enough to use one of their many abilities to interrupt them, Arthur can just will his sword to attack Lucifer if they managed to get hit by it or attack them fast enough before they do it, with Ishtar it might be a 50/50 chance, it would depend on how fast Ishtar is at flying but I still feel like she has a higher chance of winning in my opinion, and finally Zeus and Pele would just completely destroy them. Anyway, top 3 has to be Zeus, Pele and Wukong since the first two can completely decimate the area they’re in whether by lightning or a meltdown on a nuclear level and Wukong is an absolute monster in terms of skills and abilities.
Why/what does the mc owe yurui? Is this ever mentioned? Or will it be if not?
i feel like thats not really a fair assessment. Your logic relies on Lucifer being a professor x kinda character, that is a combatant who’s first and only weapon/strength is their telepathic abilities and so if you can get past it their easy to take down which is not really true. Im not saying your conclusion is necessarily wrong but it would not be as easy as your making it out to be.
I think Lucifer is definitely a wild card with their manipulation over feelings, both physical and emotional, force others to relive traumatic events, and sensory manipulation to some extent. So while not physically the most powerful, they wouldn’t be engaging in a direct trading of blows against someone. They would definitely be harder to land a solid hit on than you’re making it out to be. On top of this, we still have no clue as to what the sword can really do. Only that Jehovah was going to personally kill Lucifer with it, implying it could very well be a god-killer tier weapon. And above all, blood-drinking stands at one of the least debilitating vices among all the origins.
Is it not? From every interaction shown when they use the ability offensively they essentially stop all nerve functionality. I think any argument can be made for any of the origin MC’s to be able to win. But I think the only real counter to Lucifer would be Janus maybe if they could react fast enough to try and stop it, but I don’t think they reasonably could.
They owe Yurui from when they met in Nagano and the MC was found by Yurui and patched up/had her supplies stolen to which the MC informs Yurui they owe them.
I forgot about that sword.
For real one on one I think Lucifer takes every other fable 90% of the time. Because their ability bypasses most durability or defense, like Wukong might be able to do some shapeshifting fuckery to survive (and does pele even have a nervous system?) but the others don’t have a counter besides killing them quickly.
You can just fight him off willpower wise to completely cancel his whole ability tho.
Has that really shown to be effective though? We know canonically the mcs hold waaaaaay back 99.9% of the time. It seems sheer reluctance to push harder is the only thing that has gotten in Lucifer’s way. And once again that’s still completely ignoring the sword and their own physical abilities. You think you could go toe to toe with someone even half your strength while your organs are trying to shut themselves down?
Your organs don’t try anything if you win the battle of will tho.
It’s really a stretch to say he’s the most powerful when his power is the one that can get shut down the most unilaterally.
Yeah, but being defensive in a battle of wills gets harder when the other person also is trying to stab your face, the fact the ability is instinctive makes it even worse, of the characters we’ve seen so far I personally think only Buddha would be able to negate Lucifer’s ability completely.
Assuming that you give a one on one between any of the origins though the only character that will have some inkling of what the enemy could reasonably do is Janus. None of the other origins have the ability to see into the future or understand the abilities of the enemy or anything else. Lucifer’s ability is solely a mental ability from what is shown. How do you quickly react to that? I don’t see anyway to reasonably do such. I’m not saying the other origins couldn’t work around this and pull out a win. But Lucifer canonically can also be near as strong or stronger than the other origins. Assuming that each side knew about the others abilities the only origins I could see putting up a reasonable challenge are Ishtar, Arthur, Zeus, and Sun Wukong. Ishtar being they might be able to turn lucifer to their side with their ability assuming that it could even affect them, if not they lose. Arthur, Zeus, and Sun Wukong can all use their weapons/abilities in a long range manner to possibly outrange Lucifer. Janus from what we’ve seen only has precognition and they might be able to see what Lucifer does and react to it, but if Lucifer gets close and forces Janus into their own mind it’s Lucifer’s win. Pele is the only Origin I honestly don’t know who would win, assuming it came out to a slugfest they’re matched for power but Pele has the advantage of a natural armor that might mitigate Zulfiqar. However this is assuming that they know about each others abilities.
All I’ve done so far is read the post and I’m already sold. Something about being a powerful being that just hangs around for years clicks. I promised myself no more WIPs after The Exile and Kingdoms and Empires, but here I am again… damnit.
edit: I’ve played through a tid bit of each fable so far except Arthur (its popular here, but the tale never impressed me) but I will. My first test was with Lucifer, and after nearly falling completely for the Sun Wukong prologue, I went back to it for my first go. My lord, the angst of people learning our identity is palpable. This is gonna be a fun ride.
There shall allways be more :: snickers ::
Can you though? The people that have held it off have only done so momentarily. And again, it’s a battle on 2 fronts. Assuming the others are aware of and capable of fighting off the intrusion, Lucifer’s ability operates innately, and has a currently undefined range. And as we’ve seen, once Lucifer is in, you cant really kick them out. A mental slip is all that’d be needed to get hijacked, so you’d have to prevent that while simultaneously fending off the physical assault. Like obviously, power of the protagonist exists, so you can logic your way into explaining how whoever you want to win would win, but Lucifer would be A LOT to deal with. I’d say they’re definitely a contender when trying to figure who’s the strongest.
I’m dying to see how the fight with Lucifer goes, because they can literally make the person live the worst nightmare imaginable. I can even think the line option “You know, the Devil was actually a nice guy until I became his inspiration”
