Wip 1966

Hello, I didn’t expect to find such an interesting wip. I have a question, after my mc agreed to help with the nightmares and entered the Dreamland, there’s a line, something like “try to get some sleep”. Pressing it sends me on a loop. Is it intentional?

thank you!

the demo ends at

You spend the rest of the night unreaving the little dream Roulet has created. When nothing is left, you leave Roulet to get some rest.
*label sleepy
*finish Try to get some sleep.

that’s all I wrote so far

Which, by the way, ends up in an infinite loading screen, because in the startup there’s a scene listed after that but there’s no file of that name. You might want to remove inexistent scenes from the scene list.

Also, bug (or, well, code bleeding through, which DOES sound appropriate, considering):

It seems like I forgot to mention that bug that LiliArch mentioned, when I was typing my message. There’s also an option to infect the brain/mind of the one that betrayed us, but it’s grayed out somehow and unavailable for me. Also at the beginning, I chose a no stat difficulty out of curiosity, can you tell me what exactly does it entail? Will I really not be able to check any stats or personality meter, if implemented of course, like MC’s name, because I chose that particular difficulty setting prior?

If I understand correctly, you’re referring to the option to infect Marsh’s brain. Yes, the skill check was way too high before but I’ve lowered it now. It should work as long as your ‘Govern the Mind’ stat is high enough

Huh? What’s a ‘no stat difficulty’? I’m not sure what that means I haven’t seen it anywhere myself, and I definitely didn’t add anything like that… not intentionally at least!

There are 3 difficulty stats at the beginning to choose from and I chose a third one, if I remember correctly. Or was it a different story? Sorry, I’m a bit confused.

I have another thing I’m curious about, how many Ros, companions and characters are there? Like who and how can you meet? Can you tell me, if possible. I’m a bit confused on that part.

To be honest, I haven’t the slightest idea what this ‘difficulty’ is… I don’t even know how to implement different difficulty levels in a game!

So, yes, what it says in the FEATURES:
«6. Find love, forge friendships, or make enemies with four gender-selectable characters.»
There are four ROs; they are the four gender-selectable characters you meet in the game, regardless of what route you take (Roulet, Marsh, the ghoul, the messenger). Plus, there will be a secret fifth mini-romance option with the character whose gender the player doesn’t select, but it won’t be a full romance as with these four, just something… more like spooky scary, I suppose idk yet

Is the messenger is the one who left us the crown and also do you mean the red Queen is not Ro

also for those who do not know who the MC is the MC is the king in yellow

no, no, you are correct. the messenger IS the “The Queen in Red”. in the game they are also called “The Masked Messenger”. (or we can just say ‘Nyarlathotep’. this is Nyarlathotep and he is one of ROs, yes)

just finished the demo, and I love everything so far. your writing style is rich in imagery but doesn’t feel loaded. I hope you’ll keep working on this IF.

Yeah, sorry about that. After some contemplation I realized that I was talking about a different wip that I saw earlier that had the option to choose such settings. I mixed them up. As for trying to implement the said feature. It’s solely my opinion, but I think you can add it only if you really want to do so later along the way. As it might dwindle your motivation and passion for this project or add up an unnecessary amount of code and paths/patterns to consider. Though I’m not really sure about that part, because I never tried writing a wip or coded anything using choicescript. For the most part, because I don’t have any idea how to write one, what to write about and also like any human being I have mundane things to take care of and consider.

Do we get a chance to meet our host. I’m kinda interested about them

The acquaintance stat page looks like this

Also we can’t use the Villain mask against the coadjutor in the ETAS path

Thank you! Thank you! Fixed it (I think, hopefully)

Sorry, I’m not sure I understand. Do you mean the human whose body MC is inhabiting in the game? They are dead. The game starts with them being murdered. And MC has fully taken over their body. So I’m not sure how you could ‘meet’ them? (Though later on there will be a moment where you learn a bit more about them, but I haven’t started writing it yet.)

I’m not sure what other ‘host’ there could be. Dawn? The one who rents the rooms to Roulet and MC? You meet her and talk to her as the story goes on. So… I don’t know, sorry!

Finished reading this yesterday and absolutely loved it! Haven’t been invested in the story and the characters like that for a while. Had you not said that English is not your first language, I would never have guessed that you are a non-native speaker - the style of your writing is so rich but not overbearing. Out of curiosity, how long did it take to finish this particular release? Like people have already mentioned, the first release with a word count this high is very impressive. Anyway, will be waiting for the updates of this wip, best of luck with the writing!
