Whispers of the Stars (WIP) [On Hiatus]

@EclecticEccentric

All four “merman” should be “mermaid”

Well so far the game doesn’t explain why some of the promises are mutually exclusive.

Heck, even the siblings promises aren’t really exclusive. I for one see my MC doing his best to talk Pyralis out of it while still helping her if she can’t be convinced.

In fact part of why my MC seeks magic is to be able to improve Pyramid’s life.

re read the whole thing again @Vattena

Why it’s “her” and not “him” then? And Pyralis sibling, Asterias, is female

@Vattena
That’s…the other way around. Pyralis has a brother and Altair has a sister. There’s been a mistake in coding the pronouns. It is supposed to be a merman, but the pronouns should be he, his, him. We’ll fix it. Thank you for bringing it to our attention.

you see Sabi (@Vattena) is all about being a Lurker and “yolo”

It still a coding mistake in pronouns, what matter most are now it’s already reported to the authors.

It should be fixed now, as well as some edits to account for the narrator problem and to remove the options that do not make sense/are plain mean-spirited.

@stsword
It would be technically possible but…
The amount of work. :neutral_face: We’ll consider it for the future, but it may not be implemented any time soon. Or ever…
Sorry. We’ve added some lines to clarify why (it takes too much time to juggle two or more promises) and we might add options to change loyalties, but we can’t implement double, triple, or quadruple goals as of now.

That’s fine, adds replay value.

Wow I have no words for this. The game is so bizarre and ridiculous it made me laugh hysterically for a few times.
I cannot imagine what did the authors smoke but the result is plainly hilarious.

the Meme didn’t upload bro. @DesuVult

I honestly don’t know if that’s a compliment or criticism.

Onto more serious stuff though, namely my overview of this WIP!

  • The premise is pretty spartan, and doesn’t really do a great job explaining what exactly you’re going for. I thought this was going to be a WIP that takes itself seriously enough to at least stay in the fourth wall, but boy was I wrong.

  • The save plug-in isn’t working for me.

Uncaught Error: SaveMod: Unable to *sm_save before *sm_init
You remember when you first met Pyralis.

You were a child, barely eight years old. The seaside was quite inviting that day, with the sunlight twinkling on the aquamarine waters and the blazing white sand. You ran down to the beaches right after breakfast.

A siren sat on the rocks, muttering quietly to herself. Her feathers gleamed in the sunlight. She kicked at the waves, revealing talons and claws and scaly bird legs.

Since this is a flashback, I think this scene should have something like “Your first thought when you saw the siren was…” in order to make the transition to choices seemless.

  • I haven’t managed to play through the entire game yet, but it’s pretty weird when the humor is in-your-face most of the time and then you get mood whiplash later on with our friend wanting to be a constellation and suddenly the story gets pretty edgy from that point on. Almost seems like the story has become tone-deaf by that point.

First things first, that save plug-in. It should be fixed now.

We try to not signal the choices as thoughts or decisions, but if more people find issues with it, we’ll change it.

Mood whiplash was our intention, but it could be better implemented. Could you explain what makes it “edgy,” in your opinion? It’s my understanding that the term is usually used to describe dark and gritty settings/themes, which was not our intention.

This is the coolest wips in a while just one question, could we become gods ourself? I know it is a long shot but being able to give everyone what they want while also becoming a nigh unstoppable deity in the process sounds like the best ending ever

@Natman1025
That’s an interesting idea. We might implement that, perhaps with insanely high stat checks and specific actions taken. But of course, not everything will be rosy and happy. Even if you are a god. If there’s further interest in the idea, we’ll start adding it.

Hello, everyone! We need your help with something. We’ve recently decided to commission art for the game and we need your opinion since we are an indecisive bunch.

Which friend do you hope to see in the official art?

(Poll has closed. Since we are including the private votes, the results are a tie between Altair the merman and Pyralis the siren. Thank you for participating!)

Edit: We’re also including votes from private beta testers which will not appear in the poll.

Private Votes

Altair, siren—3
Pyralis, siren—1
Altair, merman—4
Pyralis, mermaid—2

  • Altair, siren
  • Pyralis, siren
  • Altair, merman
  • Pyralis, mermaid

This was fun, I wasn’t fond of the game altering, life changing choices coming right after the other, but I think that’ll be fleshed out more as time goes on, I’ve only done a run with childhood friend as a mermaid, but I’m enjoying the game, the dolphin dude seems like a bit of a d!ck after the mirror thing, but sometimes things seem too fast.
Honestly I’m hoping to become a Kratos-esque god of war with rage towards all but the love interest hahaha.

I was really upset at the narrator when they said I could only fulfill one promise…

Sorry for the late response. I’ve been having a hectic schedule on my side of the world lately.

Anyway, when I said the story became “edgy”, I meant that the story had a sudden tone shift that seemed out of place considering that the story was pretty wisecracking up to that point. I also take any breaks in the 4th wall as a sign that the story is either going to make a lot of jokes or won’t take itself to seriously, which probably added to my confusion.
