Yeah I haven’t written a full update for Shengzhang in like 6 months, but all the while there was hundreds of hours spent on researching, revisiting, recharacterizing. Not because I was planning on abandoning the story but because I realized I wanted to make it better. From an outside perspective it looks like the story is ‘dead,’ or at least it looked that way until I uploaded the post about it 2 days ago for polling. In reality there was a lot of work being done behind the scenes.
I actually had a talk with my therapist about this, the perception of not making a public update meaning that you didn’t do ‘work.’ I don’t know if other authors struggle with this but if so just know that work is work, effort is effort, even if it doesn’t turn into literal “word count” world building and research is just as important as the actual writing going into the story itself, if not moreso.
Not making updates for months is completely fine and understandable, expecting updates every month is unreasonable, but giving updates is a must, it doesnt cost anything to say every few weeks “im workin on it”, when a game goes without months without a update, I dont consider it dead, but when authors dont make a single comment for over a year, I consider it dead (as is the case of Sword of Rhivenia 2).
That’s how I look at it too. It doesn’t need to be anything lengthy, but a simple “I’m working on it” once a month surely isn’t too difficult to do and has the added benefit of keeping people from pestering you with questions like “Is the story dead?” or something.
I really enjoyed Freak: Amidst The Neon Lights! It was the first game that got me checking in on the forums, before I even made an account, and the demo as-is ends on such an exciting choice, if I could wave a magic wand and make any WIP finished, it would be that one
I don’t know whether Son of Satan falls under ‘dead’ category, but it’s been over a year since it got closed. I recently read it and found it utterly fascinating! I hope some time the writer will return to the project, since I really found a lot of the characters and the world building interesting. I would have loved to see how they would have handled more pantheons being introduced as well as the opportunity to talk to Ramiel.
It’ll keep being brought up I suspect, as people keep finding it somehow, but I really wanted Odessa Dating Games to make it. That was shaping up to be pretty interesting.
I’ve heard so may good things about your WIP For peace we die and i am excited to get a chance to play it so i will wait patiently until u finish or upload a working demo. Being a College student as well i understand and accept it may take a while and i whis you thr best of luck.
i forgot the name of it but it was about a college student who disappeared while shopping in a store, they got lost in time i suppose then they reappear as if nothing happened continuing to shop, then the store clerk recognized them in missing poster and contacted police i think? everyone around them aged up while they stood the same age
one of the ROs was their ex or then current SO and they are a doctor
