Huh, from that link there’s also some that are really, really similar.
You would think we’d only need one of and they could put the space for one without eyebrows as a kissing emoji that’s blushing.
Also the mustaches are quite the funny, and somewhat odd change. I kindaa want to know how the meeting went where one person just stood up and said “Hey, you know what would make these even better? Facial hair!”
Actually, even the animals looks fuzzier there. I guess they were just having a hair day over at EmojiOne.
But they showed a horseback riding emoji, my life is complete now.
I mean, to be entirely fair, you did create a whole new language based off of emojis in this thread.
The funny thing about is that it used to be just a really wide smile, and didn’t resemble at all.
You can look at the revision histories for these emojis by clicking on them. Though, they’re not complete… used to be incredibly cute, and they don’t even show that version of it on the page. (I managed to find it on emojipedia, though.)
Hey, they’ve already implemented “I love you” in American Sign Language. This is awesome
Yeah, I love a lot of the new additions.
Which I will now have to keep updating with all their new additions
At least “zombie” can now be “” instead of “”
(And hey, version 3.1 has both male and female zombies, who also look totally different from the new emoji we got four days ago )
Huh, wow… used to actually be really… really creepy when it was just a wide smile.
Specifically, this one.
Feels like if I stare at it too long it’ll crawl out of my computer screen and eat my soul.
I’ll… uh… stick to the similar one.
Aww, I mean, the glasses are still kinda cute! (Maybe I’m biased as a glasses-wearer, however.)
In other news I found another old emoji that I just…
What are you doin’ there friend?
Is it… is it okay?
Centuries from now scholars will dig up these digital records and attempt to decipher the societal, cultural, and scientific evolutions that are linked to the changes in the emoji-language.
Well, it’s certainly simplified things a bit, hasn’t it? That’s good, at least. Now no more lightning-mouse-bee-ghosts.
I’m a glasses-wearer as well, but I liked the old emoji to represent me better. It’s mainly the teeth that the new one has… it feels like more of a caricature
… I’ll be entirely honest, I never noticed that they were supposed be buck-teeth until now when I zoomed in. I always just thought it was a tiny happy grin.
Like but smaller and cuter.
But, y’know, at least it’s not running on a wall in some parallel dimension or trying to eat your soul.
no longer looks grumpy, which changes the meaning of pretty much every post I’ve ever used it in, and looks more gormless than exasperated. This means that I no longer have any emoji to express exasperation, without going to full , which is generally not what I want.
And looks really awkward and not at all kiss-y now… (At least it’s true for and , too, so it’s awkward for everyone.)
I’ve noticed a few other changes, too (, , ), but at least they keep the same general expressions (unlike the last time they changed the imps, which messed up half my “evil grin” posts).
And I can’t even use to express my displeasure at these changes any more…
As always, you can visit https://www.emojione.com/emoji/v3 to see all of our emoji and click on them to see how they’ve changed from version to version. We upgraded to v3.0 in June, and it looks like we just upgraded to v3.1 in the last few days.
You think so? :unamused: still looks pretty dissatisfied to me; they only just added eyebrows. It hasn’t looked really grumpy since v1.0, which I think is before we started using Discourse. https://www.emojione.com/emoji/1f612
previous v3.0
The lips are definitely subtler; I’m not sure I agree that it’s “not at all kiss-y”
previous v3.0
It was new in v3.0; we noticed the v3 upgrade in June of this year. So, new, but not that new. Unchanged in the recent 3.1 update.
Heh, yeah, for a while I’d been in a weird limbo wherein some emojis updated and some didn’t, and my phone and laptop had done so differently… for example and were different colors.
Plus for a while a few of the new emojis were twitter emojis instead, which I believe have all been changed now. And for a while there was a mysterious tyrannosaurus emoji which didn’t seem to correspond with any of the major providers
I do agree now looks a little more sad, rather than grumpy… it has eyebrows…
I’ll note that Discourse hasn’t implemented all the new emojis, either. EmojiOne has provided gender variants for the newish supernatural emojis, like and , but discourse doesn’t offer those.
My least favorite is the one that I anticipated upthread… there is no longer any option for a kiss with any blush whatsoever ( used to be blushy, but is now just with eyebrows, which, to be frank, is a silly and inconsequential distinction by comparison. And almost every other major emoji provider has a blushy kiss, though they vary in which one it is.)
I really don’t understand the design philosophy of “if something’s good, let’s change it! ”
Discourse has now finally implemented the gender variants for and , which I quite like. Still no male or , even though EmojiOne does provide icons for them. Discourse also seems to be confused with and looking identical, along with and … even though those have variants too
Specifically, this is the male fairy (he’s cute), and this is the male vampire: . They come in skintone variants as well. The male zombie is supposed to look like and the male genie like . (These are all embedded images, since the emojis are not available.) I’m not sure why only the merman got implemented… and they must’ve thought the generic zombie and genie were male when they tried to implement that, since they just “added” the versions we already have
In addition to that one, we can experience temperature
A few new animals, though I’m not entirely certain which we’ve had. But I’m pretty sure there wasn’t a before, and we now have a lovely , and I’m sure @ParrotWatcher will be excited that I can now call him “”
Also superheroes and supervillains … for some reason heroes are red and villains are green? And for some reason the neutral versions look the same as the female versions in both cases
They still haven’t implemented that male fairy, vampire, zombie, or genie, even though those icons do all exist in EmojiOne
Edit: Okay, I found a blog post from emoji one explaining the new additions, and covering a lot more than what I mentioned here
Edit2: Apparently EmojiOne is changing over to a new version again in a few days …just when I got used to the old one
And huh, “smiling face with three hearts” doesn’t work?
Hey! It’s always exciting when new emojis drop! The temperature ones are a nice touch, right? And a and – so cute! for @ParrotWatcher is just perfect!
Superheroes and supervillains in emoji form? That’s a quirky choice with the colors, but emojis do have their own charm! Interesting that the neutral versions share the same look as the female ones in both cases.
Fingers crossed for more diversity in the future, especially those missing male icons! It’s a bit of a bummer they’re not there yet.
Thanks for sharing the EmojiOne blog post! And change is the only constant, right? Just when you get used to one version, there’s another.
By the way, weird that “smiling face with three hearts” isn’t working! Technology has its moments, I guess.
