What genre of game do you feel is most in need of more representation?

I would really love a life sort of games like school/job/travelling :weary: I love Love at Elevation, Creme de la Creme, Parenting Simulator and my favorites are zombie Exodus series and Breach.

Definitely historical story…Like hosted game only have 1 story about WW1 and that is the Somme Trench…and I feel like it would be really nice to have other stories like that.

There are actually quite a number of comedy games up, but humour is SO subjective, many don’t do particularly well because what one person finds funny, others will hate and it tanks the ratings. Most authors write one and then run away from anything in the comedic genera ever again.

Felicity Banks writes steampunk genera games if you’re looking for more than the ones already suggested  .

My day off work? Parenting simulator?

I feel like more Martial arts Games is in order does anybody else agree with me?

Idk if this count as genre but i think there is no nation founding game.
Choice of rebel is close but not quite there yet

I definitely agree. I love anything martial arts and it’s sad that the only real game that made it a focus was Choice of Kung Fu and that was a long while ago. Seems like most games and WIPs have been focused on fantasy/medieval fantasy but would be great with more martial arts or wild west, or Edo swordsmaster type settings.

Speaking of Martial arts games did anybody help translate that French Martial arts Game to English yet?

More nautical/naval games with a more modern historical outlook, in my opinion. The current nautical games are either focused on the Age of Piracy (Choice of the Pirate, A Pirate’s Pact) or the Napoleonic Era (Choice of Broadsides, HMS Foraker). I would pay to see someone writes the journey of a naval officer in a WW1/WW2 setting, in the era of steel battleships, submarines and seaplane/aircraft carriers.

Science fantasy done in JRPG style. Something inspired by Final Fantasy IV-VI, maybe.

…okay, that will probably never happen, but a guy can dream.

Having played a healthy share of UBOAT recently, I agree with this (in fact we’re kind of getting there with the campaign in update B129 recently released on the stable branch).

I’d actually like to see someone be brave enough to do what Das Boot did - have the experience entirely from the German point of view and not tiptoe around having Brits or Americans as enemies. Also, preferably, have it set somewhere around 1944, so the German U-boats have the technological tide turned against them (among other kinds of tides, considering the general state of war at the time).

Edit: or maybe have the experience be that of a naval officer on a destroyer, guarding freighter convoys against air raids and subs alike. But it may be more flexible to write about subs, since they’re more likely to go on independent patrol/hunting missions.

Or a naval aviator, flying fighter planes defending carriers against the hordes of enemy dive & torpedo bombers also sounds exciting to me. Ideally, I would like the game to include all 3 options.

I’d like to see more realistic historical fiction, preferably not (all) war games. My first ever favorite computer game was The Oregon Trail, which launched my lifelong passion for history, so an Oregon Trail or '49 Gold Rush game would be a dream come true for me.

I’d also like to see more slice-of-life games. My all-time favorite game franchise is The Sims, and I would love a game that had some of the same feel, a sense of the quiet drama of everyday life.

I’m surprised there aren’t more games under the Dystopian tag. Dystopia is one of my favorite genres, and I would adore a game that allowed me to move through a dystopian society (either one created by the author or one in the public domain) with the weight of consequences hanging over every decision I make. It would be so stressful, but in a good way!

I would also like more games about school or studies (or apprenticeship, etc.). I know there are a lot of fantasy/magic school games already, and I adore the ones I’ve played and wish certain authors would hurry up and finish the next installment already. But I also would like to see other kinds of school experiences.

I don’t know how well a psychological thriller or domestic noir would work as a CS game, but I very much like the idea in theory.

A slice-of-life interactive novel game also sounds interesting. I hope to see more games in this genre in the future.

  • Historic stories outside War and Western settings (with maybe the option of allowing for alternate history aspects to allow diverse groups to not feel uninvited).
  • Mythological stories outside Greek and Norse mythology. Egyptian or Celtic Mythology game would be awesome.
  • Fantasy stories about races besides humans, elves, dwarves and orcs. Still hoping for a Lizardman game, should probably just do it myself.
  • More romance games that don’t involve magic schools or supernatural characters.
  • Science Fiction games! Especially the ultimate time travel game, like Paradox Factor but where you can go anywhere. I basically want a Doctor Who COG game.

I’m a weeb and I’m a sucker for romance so all of my suggestions should have romance, obviously.
I know that some of these probably exist somewhere in some way, but still wanted to throw out what I’d like to have more.

  • slice of life (without supernatural stuff), maybe something to do with clubs (more like school clubs), university, just some day to day stuff. I know there are some but I can always appreciate more

  • older Japanese era stories (meiji/showa era, though I do appreciate some nice samurai ones too)

  • mecha (like Gundams, Evangelion, you name it)

  • “monster training/taming” like Pokémon/ Digimon

  • Persona-/Tales of-esque stories

  • Super Hero stuff. Either learning how to use your powers or already established heroes

  • monster/yokai/ayakashi (maybe closer to Natsume’s Book of Friends, but everything goes I guess)

  • zombies/mutants sort of things

Think that’s it for now xD

Thriller and horror will be pretty nice although hard to write. The one i found so far is a WIP called Seven days in purgatory, i can feel the disturbing feelings and a bit of creepy which i like it even more since the author can pull it right even without a visual help and they’re only just putting a red-flags for now.

  • Stories set in real countries which aren’t the US or the UK
  • Stories with supernatural beings that are scary rather than sexy. I’ve got nothing against a sexy vampire/ghost/decaying corpse, but I do wish they were scary as well.
  • Stories where character customisation has an impact on the plot
  • As many people have pointed out, historical stories which aren’t centred on war
  • Political intrigue! What’s the point of a feudal fantasy if I don’t get to play as an evil advisor who poisons the monarch?
  • Very niche, but I’d love a game where you can play as a villain’s sidekick.

I’d like to see more slice of life/comedy stories like A Sensei’s Story or WIP A Comedy of Manors. Like yeah, I love serious themes and mystic stuff and my favorite games are about it but sometimes I just want to sit and laugh.
Also miss cyberpunk.

One of my potential future projects is a Robin Hood game which I’d like to pitch as a Hearts Choice (Male MC can romance men and/or women) game.

Are you trying to say that your character is male only with male and female romances or any gender with male only romances? It’s probably easier to use terms like F/M or M/F or M or F/A to define things (with the players gender(s) as the former and the romance characters as the latter).
