Want to clarify something regarding the story being ‘inspired’.
One piece: What I took inspiration is only a couple of world building elements (Island theme, pirates theme)
But the main thing I took inspiration is the ‘Travelling from one island to the next’. Where an island act as an arc by itself.
The story being repetitive after you leave the island—
If I have any ideas on how to make it more dynamic I’ll be sure to rewrite it. But right now the ‘talk to the crew’ part is acting like a hub, where we could know each choices more detailed.
I will keep it in mind when writing the next chapter to make it less repetitive.
Powers—
Because of the combat system I put in this story, this is hard to implements. Weapons and martial art, I could implements into the combat system, like to increase stats in an RPG.
But devil fruit on the other hand is the hard one. Because usually IF game from COG (that I read) uses a combat system that mainly use stats and is low fantasy. Whereas IF game that gives the character powers uses narrative combat.
And the thing about powers in this story is it act as a last resort. Where you only use it if you couldn’t win it the traditional way. As of what I planned right now, what makes the character ‘grow’ is his skills and equipment ,and powers ‘grow’ if you uses it more.
And narratively, the weave vessel is like one of the strongest being in the verse (below balthazar). So it doesn’t make sense for it to lose to some unnamed guards.
But be sure to let me know if there IF game that uses a combat system and gives powers to the character!
It’s a JJK inspired WIP. Set in America were you’re Gojo with Nuke Domain Expansion and your own Sukuna you have to fight. It was so good that I hope the author keep writing.
I mean, you could easily just have a ‘power’ stat, no? Like if you let us chose between 1 of 3 at the start to be our ‘fighting style’, it can easily just be the same stat and what change is just the fight scene.
That’s how I understood it but can’t it just work like the Nine Tail in Naruto? Like as the Kyubi vessel, Naruto is one of the strongest being in the verse but if he use that power, he basically gets eaten by the demon so in actual practice, he still has to grow and start out fairly weak.
And just like Naruto has his own Chackra that start out weak outside of the uber powerful but risky Kyubi Chackra, we could have our ‘devil fruit’ equivalent / martial art / weapon style.
In short you’d have the weave, which is basically a ‘I win’ or ‘Last Resort to survive’ button that basically take you have over if you press it and independently from that, you’d have your ‘normal’ way of fighting that is much weaker and need to grow alongside your character but carries no risk.
Obviously I wasn’t talking about losing but like to use a One Piece allegory, Luffy could beat up the random pirates with his chapter 1 Gomu Gomu while what we have with superspeed or spatial manipulation is closer to Gear 2 Luffy vs Lucci. It’s a bit much to start with IMO.
I’d recommend Path of Martial Arts and Aura Clash, they have pretty in-depth systems for IFs, could take inspiration from it. Remnants could also be worth checking out since it’s Alter-Ego assimilation thing seems similar to the Weave.
I guess an ‘easy way’ to make it feel less repetitive would be to have the choice described differently. Instead of both times just being ‘Talk to X’, it could be ‘X is doing Y, might want to talk to them’.
Thanks so much for the feedback! I think I will rerwite someparts in the future once I have added a bit more to the story. I will also improve the combat system more!
