Vendetta: Rise of a Gangster - Resumed

How old is the man character in being of game character one and two? Because what she is 14 or 15, and in game follows 13 years of main character live untill he boss of hell kitchen if not mistaken?

For reason have it my head the MC is 18 or 19, so he was 16 or 17 when join army, if follow 13 years of live at end of game he going to be 30 or 31, and Angel would be 26 or 27. That take out the creep factor quite a bit.

The problem is, I figured you were attempting that sort of relationship, but to me it comes off more creepy than fatherly. Perhaps you can at least allow for the protagonist to rebuke her advances, the whole relationship with her seems rather railroaded, if she stays with the player, then the protagonist takes a liking to her no matter the input from the player. Granted the option to have her stay with you somewhat implies that, but the way the relationship develops from there still feels rather railroaded.

But then again an important part of getting suggestions is to know how to filter the good suggestions from the bad, or at least focus on the ones that matter, else you end up in the labyrinthian trap known as the details.

For example my mom BF comes old off boat italian family his Aunt got marry when she was I think 16 to her husband who 22, and this was in earlier 20 century.

PS this look no where as bad the relationship does in the Count of Monte Cristo.

Who is Angel!?! :S

is that the girl you find in uh… whats his names appartment?

Assuming the main character is roughly the same age regardless of his background, one can assume from the WWI veteran background that he’s in his early twenties. A man that age in a relationship with a seventeen year old is certainly creepy today, but it wasn’t outside the social norms for that time in history. Not that a violent gangster is going to be that concerned with social norms in the first place.

@Bikkje It’s a good suggestion. Many of them have extra advantages in some way so it would be good to have something to balance that now & then.

@zero647 I’m glad you like it, and thanks for the feedback. For some rackets and businesses I decided to add the availablility as a Weekly option rather than a now-or-never choice, which is how Multiple Choice games usually (granted, not always) work, as I thought that was fairer than being denied that opportunity simply for falling fractionally short of requirements at a particular stage. Later on some may well be now-or-never choices but I didn’t want to impose too harsh a penalty so early in the game.

I’d be interested in knowing if anyone else experienced the jump back to the start of the chapter for no particular reason? Theoretically it cannot happen except upon scene failure (i.e. death!), as that’s the only place the code actually exists . . . so it sounds like a reload problem caused by the website or the net in general, or something else external. Or perhaps I’m pushing the limits of the system with so much jumping between different files, so the slightest hiccup at the wrong time can cause it . . . ? Hmm.

@Roger The main character, regardless of background, is (in my mind at least!) 20-21 years of age or thereabouts, but I’ve purposely left it unspecified in the story so the player is free to imagine him as being a little younger, or a little older, as they prefer.

@13ventrm It’s a fair point–it really needs a scene mid-chapter to better define Angel’s role (and allow for some input by the player) otherwise it’s assuming a great deal between the Week 2 scene and the week 5 scene without giving you a whole lot of choice in the matter beyond letting her stay or not. As the other (still-to-do) relationship stuff is intended to fall mainly mid-chapter as well, I’ll have a think about slotting something more for Angel in there at the same time, perhaps even linked to those other relationships in some cases. This would doubtless make that later scene less likely to occur, but at least for the right reasons, as a direct result of player input.

@Txu That’s the one. There are basically two different ways to extricate her from that situation.

@Luxtizer It’s an interesting point. I hadn’t really considered the possibility of the protagonist returning her (misguided?) affections to the same degree, only in a ‘big brotherly’ manner, but as you say it wouldn’t exactly be outside the bounds of social norms back then. And perhaps 13ventrm’s point about railroading the player works both ways? Hmmm. I’ve a lot of thinking to do on this subject before the final edit!

I guess I have to report a potential bug? I hadn’t said anything before, because I thought I was just a terrible surrogate father/big brother figure. But I actually have never had a second scene with Angel at all. Once she moves in, I usually never hear anything else about it either way. Are you guys saying that some other scene is mandatory/expected?

@Anansi Once you agree to her staying a while there should be at least one other mention of Angel that chapter, during the final week, even if it’s just a very short scene saying you return home one day to find that she has left without any word of explanation. It sounds like there may be a bug on this scene appearing–thanks, I’ll look into it.

In any event, if she does that then it’s more to do with Angel herself than any reflection on you . . . but I can’t say more on the subject without revealing too much about her future possible role in the story if she chooses to stay.

Are we gonna see angel again?
Pretty Please! [-O<

@Player Even if Angel leaves near the end of Chapter Two, that won’t be the last you see of her. If you never meet her in that Chapter, you’ll first come across her in Chapter Three . . . More than that, I don’t really want to reveal just yet.

Nah thats more than enouh!

Mission success.
Human creativity always wins out in the end, fortunately.

Question: will there be the possibility to become a politician?
Or maybe there is and I missed it.

Vendetta, for clarity, I do get the scenes where she chooses to leave. However, there have been one or two play-throughs where she didn’t leave, but neither did I hear anything else about her. As I remember, in one of them, I was a WWI Veteran who did no crimes outside of killing Bianchi in the immediate aftermath of the bombing. I’ll try to recreate it, to see if I just didn’t click past the scene, which I guess is a possibility too.

She did not leave my places at all, so guess bug now if 16 or 17 the creep even less even more so. Because are character is any where 18 to 21.

Didn’t get the Angel storyline until reading it here, but I don’t see a future relationship between the MC and her being that much of a problem at that time, and having had a harsh life thus far. Also regarding her leaving, I don’t see why not wanting her exposed to danger causes her to leave, but it’s good you planned that she comes back.
Not sure if it’s intentional, but I was unable to go steady with Car-something or other even if I flirted with her at the bar during the week after collecting Angel. I was a WW1 veteran and tried to be benevolent through it.
Lastly, is there some sort of relationship meter for all the characters? Like if Louis(?), the disable barkeep, doesn’t like you enough, then you can’t make the kill on DeGrazio at the pool room etc.

So, in conclusion, less railroading with her would be nice.

@Eisenstern No, but you will get to control them from behind the scenes. Opinion also seemed inclined towards politics / elections, so that will be the focus of at least one chapter (probably mid-game), with your performance in that having considerable effect thereafter (i.e. whether or not you end up with the Mayor ‘in your pocket’, for example).

@Anansi & @Roger Any info you can provide would be appreciated (background is good, and two other useful ones to know would be your initial choice in Chapter One–Mangano, Chuck or Dino–and which option you chose for the Protection racket setup, good guy or bad guy).

As a general rule for most bugs, remembering which route you took in Chapter One–Mangano, Chuck or Dino–is a useful starting point, as that early choice has a significant impact throughout Chapter Two. Thanks.

@zero647 The reason(s) for Angel leaving of her own accord (which she doesn’t always seem to be doing too successfully atm!) will be revealed in time (Chapter Three).

Carina, being a generally “nice” girl, is the hardest one to form a lasting relationship with, simply because of who you are (public image notwithstanding–she cannot deny the evidence of her own eyes). All relationships come down to Persuasion at the end of the day though, so if a chosen background is somewhat lacking in that regard, don’t expect to easily persuade a nice girl that you’re really a nice guy! That said, when the relationship-bonding scenes finally make it into the main story, Persuasion will be somewhat less important than the choices you make in that pursuit–but will still be a factor.

Yes, there are individual relationship ‘meters’ (sort of) for every major character, so none forget how you treated them, or behaved towards them, in the past. However, these mostly (but not always) tend to be used as modifiers, with a particular character Attribute being the most important factor–such as when asking someone to help you kill someone else. In such as Louis Campanini’s case, being an underling, you first and foremost have to “command his respect” (to use the actual story text given as the hint in his case).

@13ventrm A very valid point to bear in mind, methinks. Thanks.

Vendetta, these are the choices I made:

WWI Veteran background. Went directly home from the morgue. Declined heist with Dino.

Chapter 2 Choices: Follow Bianchi. Decline hit from Mangano. Good guy option on protection (no beating up innocents). Decline Dino’s second heist. Decline to ask Chuck for any jobs.

However, now when I’m replaying it, I am getting the scene where she leaves. I guess I’m just back to being a terrible surrogate father again.

@Anansi Hehe, well at least that route is having the correct end result so far as Angel is concerned. It does help to narrow things down though. As with previous missing or repeated scene problems, it clearly stems from the order in which you are offered the scenes, as a result of your intitial Chapter One choice. The difference in this case compared to your previous (missing scene) effort, is, I strongly suspect, that last time you met Chuck (week 2) before Mangano (week 4). It makes a big difference in various ways–one of which is connected to Angel’s scene in week 5 . . .Thanks.

It is hard to make Carina to like you? Are you kidding me? It only took me two weeks!
