"Vampire: The Masquerade — Out for Blood"—Hunt the vampires that terrorize your town!

I can say for sure that Jace doesn’t show up automatically. In chapter 10, when Perry is breaking in, you have to choose the option to call someone for help and then call for Jace or he won’t show up. You do need to have a positive relationship with Jace. There’s a couple ways to do that. If you go to the doctor’s office, you can tell him to call a realtor. Offering the room in your house will also give you an increase in relationships with Jace. Also I believe if you ask Jace what his deal is if you get attacked by the McCraes, that’ll improve your relationship slightly. If you choose to follow Jace in chapter nine and you get caught, you’ll lose relationship points with him.

I thiiiink Jace can still show up after the fact if you rented the room out to him, though, if you didn’t call him. But if you had an extended scene with Amanda and Monroe fled the scene, then it wouldn’t happen. I’m pretty sure he’ll only show up if you reject Amanda completely, get her out the door, and then talk to Monroe. After Monroe leaves, then Jace should show up to check on you. That’s where you should get the romantic scene, as well as the epilogue. I think you also need to have sided with the thin bloods and won to get that epilogue.

I’m not sure about Monroe ending up dead. If you successfully defeated Chastain in the final chapter and Monroe survived, then there shouldn’t be any issues. Maybe a glitch?

Re: Becoming a Kindred: In the world that Out for Blood is set in, the World of Darkness, thin-bloods canonically cannot embrace humans. Only a full-blooded kindred can do that. That’s the reason you don’t get any offers from the thin-bloods. Only Amanda can give that offer, and it only happens if you side with her and end the conflict with the thin-bloods. Then, in the epilogue, she’ll offer to embrace you.

Thanks very much for your informative and quick reply, Revenais! I have heard of ‘Vampire: The Masquerade’ - but have had no active involvement with it until playing ‘Out For Blood’.

‘In the world that Out for Blood is set in, the World of Darkness, thin-bloods canonically cannot embrace humans. Only a full-blooded kindred can do that. That’s the reason you don’t get any offers from the thin-bloods. Only Amanda can give that offer,
I was afraid that might be the case. When I first learnt of this game the Choice of Games sales line was: ‘Gather your allies to hunt the vampires that terrorize your town! Study their ways and exploit their rivalries, or you’ll become a vampire yourself.’

Now that the game is actually here, it seems that it’s very unlikely that the MC can become a vampire, except by siding with Amanda Chastain. The potential of the MC (and friends) being turned into vampires against their will, hinted in the sales pitch, has vanished.

I’ll aim for the vampire ending another time. For now, I’ll try to see if I can get another ending other than #12 by becoming a vampire hunter out to clean up the town!

I really enjoyed this! It didn’t have as much action as Night Road but there was always a sense of suspense/paranoia and I really enjoyed the social relationship aspect of the game. Most definitely will be replaying this a few times so I can unlock all the mysteries and mess around with some of the combat encounters and endings.

Looking forward to the next one.

Just wondering, how do you get the mage path? Also is it limited to high occult characters or is there a technomancy option for high sci/tech? It’d be cool if being a super hacker let you become a virtual adept or something like that.

I really love Bloodlines but I would have prefer to have less anarch good guys. Let Nines as he is but make his follower be more violent and less careful about the masquerade.
Because as it is, younve got little reason to help the Camarilla (Strauss) in the game. Strauss isn’t a good guy but he isn’t a bad guy either. He want to uphold the Masquerade and Camarilla… And I want to be ok with that, but… Well… The anarch doesn’t seem to be going bad about keeping secret. They really don’t need the Camarilla AT ALL.

In Night Road, the antagonism was more subtil and in the end, I prefer to side with the Camarilla, the lesser evil, because the anarch were playing with really dangerous tool in it, even if their philosophie and reasonning were appealing. It was a risk both for Kine and Kindred that I wasn’t ready to play, in comparaison, Camarilla was a safe bet, even with high humanity.

But in Bloodlines… Well… No. I really can’t understand why I would side with the Camarilla (except as a Tremere). They killed my Sire, were ready to kill me (save by the Anarch), let the prince betray me by selling me to the Sabbat after blowing up the entrepot (once again, save by the anarch). I know that the prince did betray the Camarilla, but none of the member left a single finger to help us in the game (except maybe Strauss).

Really absolutly no reason to side with them if you’re not power hungry or feeling some loyalty to your clan as a Tremere.

Really, keeping Nines as he is but making the rest (except Jack maybe) more irresponsible, more “meh, don’t care about consequences”, more zealout… It would have make a real choice.

You have side with the good guys or be independant but blow the prince ends vs side with the camarilla vs all bad end because you side with the bad guys. Camarilla is neutral group but Anarch shouldt be good guys. They should be neutral too.

Red Embrace Hollywood did a better job with the faction. It’s not really in the World Of Darkness universe but it’s the same ambiance. And the 3 faction of the game are clearly Camarilla, Anarch and Sabbat. And really, it was hard to pick a side. Even the Sabbat equivalent had real good arguments and wasn’t just a bad freakshow. In the end, here, I choose to play safe and join the Camarilla’s equivalent but the choice wasn’t easy at, with a really intelligent and charismatic leader for the Anarch like (and zelot followers, sometimes violent ans irresponsable) wanting the best for vampire but don’t really care for humans, a cruel but sensible leader for the sabbat who seem to want to create an era of chaos…

But really, I loved Bloodlines. Especially with a Malkavian…

That is a fair point about the tagline. I think, knowing the setting, I’d assumed the thin-bloods were out as far as embracing, but I can see how that’d be confusing to someone who isn’t familiar with the World of Darkness. I also think it could’ve been neat if there were other full-blood vampires backing the thin-bloods in the territory dispute or even just them being like “We know a guy” so that the MC would have more chances to be embraced.

With Amanda, I’m not super shocked either since there is a small hint that she might be Camarilla aligned. (Still not sure about that, but she mentions higher ups in the embrace ending and that the MC is lucky to have been given one ghoul. And ghoul limits are a thing more typical of the Camarilla…few Anarchs would do that.) In the Camarilla, there are harsh limits on who can embrace a kindred, and you have to ask permission before doing so or you risk being executed by the local kindred government. So, generally, those that embrace are rather picky about who they choose. (Not always, but generally) And mass-embracing mortals is a thing only the evil vampires - the Sabbat - do in this setting. That said, such an outcome could have been interesting as well, since Amanda is so weirdly obsessed with the MC’s family.

So, I overall like the game. But there is a continuity issue I have.

When you find the secret room it’s mentioned that your grandfather had his own little Arsenal, and it shows up again when you get to the final battle. So why can we only access a Glock 19 and the weapons we bought when Perry attacks? Also, I don’t think the paint you can scrape off Chastain’s painting ever comes up again. It would be a nice bit to have an option to run it through chemical testing in the secret room.

On a side note, does anyone know what the dirt the mayor imported is or if it comes up again?

technically there is a full-blood vampire with the thin-blood Perry
but I didn’t count on him to embrace you

Does anyone know how to get the ending where you’re embraced as a Toreador? I was all set to help Amanda but I got railroaded into helping the hoomans and thin bloods. Do you need to make a truce between everyone or is there a way to side with Amanda in totality?

Wait, Perry is a full-blooded kindred? I assumed he was a thin-blooded kindred with the dead flesh flaw.

Exactly. I was imagining a scenario where the MC could start to romance Jace, then later discover that he’s a vampire. The MC could then have a serious think along the lines of "Okay. Do I now want to stick a stake into him, woo him as a human, or get him to bite me and become a vampire?'Jace moved in from Chicago, like the MC - so he could’ve been a full blood who learnt of the turf war whilst in the city, and decided to move in to help out the thin bloods. It also would have been interesting, after one of my MC’s had a sexual encounter with Monroe, for that relationship to have continued in some way. But instead, Monroe was declared by the radio announcer to be dead in Ch.12 - when she was last seen to be alive (could be a bug, as you say, as that line didn’t appear during one playthrough). There seems to be potential storylines not being followed through. So we have to be grateful for what we do have, instead.

Thanks for your reply!

This is random but I hope in the next game when we play as vampire Clan Malkavian is an option.

nvm, I figured it out from reading the code. Joining the Arcanum needs Path of Knowledge >= 50 by the last chapter, which I had. However, it is the lowest priority ending; there is only one possible ending, and all the other ending possibilities have higher priority. I had >=60 relationship with Monroe so I got that ending instead.

Also it turns out that I totally misunderstood what a “mage” meant in the World of Darkness (you can’t be a mage of any kind in this game, more like a sorcerer I guess?).

Hope so too.

How can we become vampire, or ghoul, in this one? Is it possible for a kindhearted character?

By the, way, who likes Ventrue here? I sure do.

Im torn…I love this universe and Jim did a great job with the writing as always. But I just dont know about the structuring of the game if that makes sense. There are alot of plotlines and characters brought up but then never again. I did two full playthroughs and some characters brought up in this thread like the McCraes never even popped up for me besides I believe the father when you go see Adam at his workplace and at the end of one of my runs where I killed Amanda and it said it looked like someone was smiling through the window before they drive off.

Other characters too I get relationship stats for and barely had any direct conversations with like April which I thought I would be dealing with more. I figure maybe it comes down to just how you choose to play for some of these characters to factor in more but I dont know. Just remembered about the, im guessing, vampire related lady in the mayors house. Encountered her once when I went to the rooms at the town meeting then shes never brought up again.

Stuff with the grandad is still unclear, but I dont feel like there was an opportunity to find out more about him specifically without it being hearsay you may pick up from people. I do know some tidbits like about his relationship dealing with certain characters but none of it feels like its clear cut. Knowing the little bit I do about the WoD universe, mostly from the video games lol, I figured he was maybe a Hunter or something but I just dont know.

Also I plan to try some more playthroughs but I feel mixed about the first two I got so far. The first was I brokered peace for the vamps and chose to be turned by Amanda as part of the deal. But then, it talked about how I stopped caring about running the store really and was always busy from working for Amanda…last time I checked I never agreed to or wanted to work for her and it never was part of the deal for settling things for them so it felt out of nowhere. Plus, I played a ex-con artist who had max resources and I believe a 4 in influence and was friendly with everyone and chose to focus on the store whenever the game gave me the chance, yet I just stopped caring about my business also? Also the store debt is never really resolved and one of the times I got the mayor to back off a bit by telling him I knew what his dirty dealings and by the end I remember getting a bill of what I still owed and the game just ends soon after that which was the ending where its implied a new vamp moves into Bleakrest.

Just feels like the game wanted to do too much but in such a small amount of time, but like I said it may just be how you choose to play since alot of stuff seems to be left unresolved by the end of a playthrough while some is.

Edit: Sorry but I keep remembering stuff that I dont get. In my peace ending, Monroe basically comes back to town and gets her life back figeratively speaking and and Amanda helps with that. In my help the thinbloods kill Amanda one, Monroe stakes her and carries her off and I never hear from any of the vamps besides Kira saying she was headed to Canada on her social media. What I dont get is why couldnt I use any of my Background stats for really anything through the whole game but mostly why couldnt I use my resources and influence that I pretty much maxed out to help Monroe out or something. Besides having like just 1 point by the end in Contacts, I pretty much just became the new Chastain of the Heights but you know, actually kindhearted and not evil lol.

Alot of stats dont seem to be used or if they are there is kind of more of a focus on certain ones. Mainly just social or I guess mental ones so I dont really see a reason to do a playthrough where some are a focus like physical ones which is a bit discouraging. Still I like the universe and the writing, just wish it felt a bit more satisfying to play my character.

Is the price supposed to be significantly cheaper on Steam? Maybe that store takes a smaller cut?

I’m seeing £6.99 on Android which doesn’t sound discounted? It’s £5.75 on Steam.

Not complaining, just wondering. Haven’t decided on my purchase platform yet!

Changelog for 8/4/21 patch:

  • Bug fixes and continuity error fixes.
  • View portraits on the stats screen after you’ve met a character.
  • Toggle between seeing attributes, skills, and backgrounds as dots or numbers. (To improve usability for VO players primarily.)
  • Tweaked a number of stat checks to trigger more events and to balance endings.

All in all, I think I would describe this game as a flawed success. $7.99 is a slightly uncomfortable price point for me, but it’s not one that’s keeping me up at night. Review, with spoilers, below:

It almost feels like the game can’t really decide what it wants to be. I think @Elseguard really hits it on the head with the talk about plotlines and what is and isn’t resolved. We learn about our grandfather, and that he had a major role in the town and was rivals with Chastain… and then we don’t figure out much beyond that, other than that he had a secret room. I mean, we can go to his grave and talk with a woman who used to have flings with him… but we don’t really learn anything from her. Another example: we read about the vampire huntress lady getting arrested and later escaping from prison, but then she kind of just falls off the face of the Earth (at least in my three playthroughs; even if she does pop up in other endings, it doesn’t make it okay for her to be completely absent after being so mentioned in the rest of the game).

EDIT: She showed up in a playthrough I did.

My other issue with the game is that there’s a frustratingly linear element to it at times that really messes with my ability to enjoy it. Yes, there are many branches you can take too do certain things in this game. However, the amount of things that ALWAYS come up are, in my opinion, just a little too much.

I’ll say this much: I’m happy with the game as a whole, and I’m happy with my purchase. However, if you really want the game to be what it could be, a massive expansion to rework and add on to it is in order. It’s just a little hollow.

I know I haven’t done a perfect job enunciating my feelings here, but this is my best for right now.

I think I came into this game with the wrong expectations. In my head the plot was going to be a group of thin bloods going 30 Days of Night on your isolated town with the main choice being how much do you risk your inexperienced group of townsfolk turned vampire hunters vs how much of the town and your own soul do you trade away to a full blood vampire looking to take advantage of the chaos. However it’s unfair to critique a game for not being a plot I made up in my own head.

A flaw that I do think exists outside of my own skewed expectations is the central conflict lacks a certain…urgency. Sure Chastain is feeding on the townspeople and the thin bloods are harboring a killer but it never feels like the town is ever in any real danger. It feels less like a desperate fight against the bloodthirsty undead and more like a minor political squabble over what vampire gets a spot on the PTA board. If the MC just never came back to town and started poking around it kind of feels like everything would just work itself out. Which sort of makes it feel like everything bad that happens is the MCs fault for being a nosey Nancy who can’t stay out of other peoples business.
