"Vampire: The Masquerade — Out for Blood"—Hunt the vampires that terrorize your town!

I’ve become interested in VtM only in the past year, as a result of these games - so I get where you’re coming from.

As others have said Out for Blood is the perfect game to start with if you’re not familiar with the VtM terminology and lore, since you’re playing as an outsider. Sometimes you’ll hear the vampires use terms you aren’t familiar with as they talk amongst themselves, but anything you really need to know will be explained.

In the other three VtM games, you’re playing as a vampire who already knows the basics, but the games are written to be accessible to and enjoyable for newcomers as well as longtime fans, so a lot of what you need to know will be explained in the text, either directly or through context. There’s also some information you can access through the stats page that will fill you in on what you need to know to enjoy the game and make informed choices.

Sins of the Sires might be a good choice as a follow-up to Out for Blood, because the PC is relatively new to the vampire world and has deliberately been kept ignorant of a lot of things for reasons that become apparent later in the story. So if you feel a little confused trying to keep up with things, that just makes it more immersive.

Parliament of Knives gets into some full-on political machinations, and might be pretty overwhelming if you went in knowing nothing at all - but it has an especially thorough lore guide, which I recommend you read through all the way before you start playing if you’re not fully at home in the VtM world, then refer to afterwards as necessary.
