Considering your enjoyment of the father’s differences, I would be interested in seeing how you view the Scurra father in his appearances, as he is also markedly different from the other two in his interactions with both the MC and other characters haha.
As I have it written, you are given the list of 9 ROs to visit the dorm of, which basically acts as a sieve where you can pick up to three people to talk to, and of those three youll later be given an option on who youd like to commit to and lock your route.
This filter is put in place for several reasons. One, if people find enjoyment in multiple characters, it somewhat helps to first narrow down the choices before making a big final decision. Its easier to digest. Two, narritively speaking, i dont find it feasable for All Nine ROs to say theyre available to you, or for the MC to make potential plans with nine people at once for every RO choice to be selectable during that choice set.
As for the time that the actual lock in to the romance takes place within the story, it is very early in the story intentionally. One reason is simply because it is a primarily romance oriented book, i want to place the majority of my book under the character building of that romantic goal. Romance being a very time-consuming thing, especially for some characters like V or P, i find it’s better to have an early starting point haha
The other reason is that with how the ROs story is planned for each route having the two paths, i need to start early to give myself enough time in the story to actually implement the key decisions that will affect the path. I have to make sure that the player stays with one character throughout the developments of the story by locking the route so they can have the option to then affect that character, if that makes sense haha. The problem with pushing the RO route lock until later is that i will either have to compress multiple important decisions within a short time frame in the narrative, which will feel very rushed, or risk eclipsing my intended word count by trying to expand the story far enough to where the key decisions are still well paced throughout, which is a daunting additional workload for me haha
Nevertheless, im happy to take your thoughts to mind. With the main concern being that you dont feel there is enough of a preview of each of the characters before the big locking decision is made, i can look into retroactively adding an additional scene or two for each RO before that point in the story if i find that its a big concern for many. I did my best to give what is basically the general “overview” of every character before that point, and pursuing the RO is more relavant to who you want to dig deeper into the character with haha. If you simply dont enjoy certain character types from what is given, thats more of a preference detail i cant help no matter how much detail about the character i give before locking the route. If its found that theres a lack of good character introduction or no good scenes related to them, thats something i can fix haha
