Triaina: Academy - WIP - Update 1.28 - (9/15/2024)

I’m definitely going for insanity!! I feel like that route will be so much more fun.

I usually go for the therapy path. I like her too much to feed into her insanity if that makes sense

While on topic. Is there currently any difference between insanity and therapy routes for Raven?

The fix them route. The insanity is part of the character appeal, but I prefer to see improvement in that regard. It’s a lot more touching if you get to see the Yandere improve and enter a loving relationship instead of both people becoming worse. Despite liking Yanderes as characters, I don’t really like messed up RELATIONSHIPS. I want the characters to find happiness in a relatively healthy manor.

Yeah, Dad’s definitely set some sort of record for how quickly we’ve become estranged. Like, don’t get me wrong, my mc’s love is not blind, I totally get their concerns but that doesn’t mean they’re gonna be cool with summary execution. I at least need to know what actually happened to the og Raven. Executing someone without a trial is an awful way to handle this. What if someone else killed them? Or they’re not actually dead? I’m not saying Raven isn’t crazy enough to have done it but you still gotta know for sure.

Also loved the fortune telling scene if you pick love. “There is great potential danger with this one.” Like yeah, you got any new information? It’d be hilarious if the danger turned out to be because of someone else entirely. Like “oh no, their homicidal tendencies are no threat to you, specifically. I was talking about the police. They’re gonna find out if your spouse keeps killing people.”

Yeah, I touched on that briefly, but I do think it’s interesting that the obsession with having kids with mc looks like your typical “yandere obsessed with mc wants to have their offspring because of some twisted idea of romance and/or sexual obsession” that you see in a lot of yandere themed works, I didn’t even expect it to come up again, but then it turns out that no, they actually really want kids, like, for its own sake. Like, the way they go about it is weird, but they want kids for the same reason everyone else wants kids. Not just “I want the person I’m obsessed with to have my babies or vice versa”. Like, normally when a Yandere says that, you think “under no circumstances should this person be allowed to raise kids”. Raven actually seems like they could make a good parent someday (after a lot of therapy). And the backstory makes this all the more interesting and also sad.

Funny, S is actually one of my favorites. I tend to spend time with them even on other routes. They’re just so much fun and I find their antics really cute and amusing. Plus, that motor oil prank was awesome.
I hope we can help save their hometown. Our best bet is either Lewis has the capacity for good like Andrew says… or I take him hostage and use him as leverage to ensure his father backs off.

It’s funny bc I actually saw a bit of potential when they actually approach the mc. I just REALLY HATE how they talk to the others. I can only take so many jabs at my friends for being poor before I punch someone.

It’d be funny if we both joined the army and V ended up outranking us.

Yeah, V is an interesting character. I thought Jagd was an elite brigade or smth but apparently, it’s the opposite. After Triana rebelled, Vestia decided throwing all the “unrankable” citizenry and outcasts into a remote penal colony with no oversight was a bad idea so they invented Jagd, where they assign you if you can’t cut it the actual military/society, and then they use you as poorly trained cannon fodder. Naturally, few survive long and those who do tend to be exceptionally skilled fighters as well as extremely traumatized.

I find the Bal’ka thing funny. “We made this food as field rations, they taste bad and are hard to eat because the meal being unpleasant makes you want to put off eating so the food lasts longer on long trips between settlements. Why are you selling them as street food? Stop that!”

It’s great because that’s happened with a fair few foods intended for such purpose that became delicacies. I’ve been comparing it to hardtack biscuits which believe it or not, that rock solid bread is fairly popular in Japan according to Wikipedia. There’s an American Indigenous dish (consumed by several cultures) called Pemmican I was reminded of. That’s not actually meant to be tasteless but it’s still a ration made of tallow, jerky, and dried berries meant mostly as field rations that’s since become a regular culinary staple people just eat for dinner.

So far Raven has a breakdown on the Therapy route when you express disgust with his ‘You are my Specialz’ box ad then promises to do whatever he can to become better.

Do you maim the guy in the insanity route?

The box guy? Yes you do iirc.

I never tried that option. I figured we’d kill him. Might be smarter to tbh. Easier to hide a body than get him not to talk.

I thought I would enjoy the insanity route more, but Raven actually feels fixable. Like, I feel like I could actually make them calm down somewhat and understand that violence and acts of such kind aren’t the only way to show affection. I feel like I could make them feel safe enough. Idk. I just want to house them and give them a shower and some hot tea. And maybe some friends. Raven needs friends. Would it be possible to get them and V to get along? I feel like they’d be thick as thieves if they ever got the chance to actually understand eachother.

What we’ve seen from our father is so interesting to me already. Academic-BG MC is so far my favorite for worldbuilding purposes, as there’s a lot of things with STEM and stuff that connects to your MC if you choose it, and a lot more context and information about the studies into the energy used and your powers, but for characters? Military-BG MC all the way. Emma, Vin, AND Mary have a connection to the military, and also the dad is just… idk. He feels so much warmer?? Like, it says in the beggining it says he had an “impassive” parenting method, but he actually feels like an adult that could be my dad, whereas with the Academic-BG MC, your father hardly feels focused on you at all. It’s like you don’t exist?? Which isn’t a complaint, it’s actually super interesting to me how different they are.

Then again, I’ve only done the academic-BG MC on Raven and Vin’s route, but he seems less like a father and more like a professor of yours. And we KNOW things were a little rocky with his wife, our mother, since, if you go with Rosalina to the lab, you find out that he doesn’t actually mention her all that much, but she opposed them trying to research more about STEM due to its negative effects. So things weren’t going too well. And, in Raven’s route, he barely even acknowledges you. I’m not sure if this is something that’s also the case for a Military-BG MC, which I should probably check, but he’s much more focused on the situation at hand. It’s understandable, but also really interesting. In Vin’s route, he’s much less panicked, and I get a lot more of his actual personality; he’s a little dorky, but well-respected, and he trusts you explicitly to be able to handle the situation, but he treats you much more like a peer than a child of his.

Am I reading way too much into this? Probably. But It’s so different from how the Veteran Dad acts; HE wants you to go after Vin because that’s what it means to be a commander, and the way he presents it is much more… paternal?? Like, he tells you that you should go only if you’re prepared to take the responsibility for Vin’s wellbeing, and waits for you to make the choice because he wants you to mature and stuff, whereas the Academic Dad is more “I believe in you!! go bestie!! You got this!!!”; and he makes a point to emphasize that he doesn’t think Vin wishes them harm.

But my biggest sticking point is that, in M’s route, your father shows up alongside M’s father (who is a veteran) (right after you and M were about to start making out!! Come on!) And he and your father have a conversation (which, if you pick the Military BG, gives off insane bitter exes vibes but I digress. I mean they use first names!!/j/j/j) in which your father makes a point to refer to you as his child multiple times.

“A selfish ideology to attempt to incite in the next generation,” a familiar husky voice returns, finding the broad figure of your father approaching Gillian with a strict glare, “Even more unforgivable to do so with my own child.”

You see a pained disappointment in your father’s eyes, as if he’s looking into a lost cause, “You’re a fool. What did we risk our lives for, if it meant putting our children through the same? It was supposed to end with us.”

And then he tells you to go off and enjoy life while you can because the young should enjoy peaceable times for as long as they last and also that he’ll be “taking things over from here” (Ie dealing with M’s dad, and I am SUPER interested in how that conversation went down bc we get literally like four sentences exchanged between them and there’s already so much tension because of how opposed their worldviews are) Which is a much more fatherly interaction than any of the ones we get with Xero. Then again I should probably play through M’s route with the academic BG just to be sure. Anyways! I thought it was cool how different the Dads can act. …Also, I read the whole execution thing as something Holt decided entirely on his own, that our father had nothing to do with, because honestly he seems kind of out of his depth during that scene. Like it feels like he doesn’t fully know whats happening.

I do hope we get to have a full conversation with our father explaining why he’s back and what’s happened, though. I feel like that’s pretty necessary. Actually, @LeoXII , how long ago did our dad leave to go do Whatever He Needed To Do? Ie; leaving to go to the bunker, or leaving to go into the war. How long has it been since we’ve last seen him? Because we do know that, sans for the orphan BG, he mostly raised us; it’s not like we’ve never met him before, so…?

Honestly, so many of the interactions in Raven’s route are unintentionally funny, I actually snorted IRL at “And this is where we’ll have our babies!!” it was so out of left field :joy:

Is that so? Where did you find this information, I haven’t encountered it in-game?

Ah. The author’s gone into it. I heard it on the discord but it’s possible the tumblr has info on it too. I didn’t mention where I heard it because I thought it may have been on V’s route, which I haven’t played yet.

I can’t wait to get more into Blood Control, I want to see the characters reaction to that. The creepy lab chick made it seem like it was kinda rare and ominous to have. Blood control while romancing a Character all about blood is going to be an interesting Dynamic.

I’m also doing a Rival Romance with Pierce as well and can’t wait to see that grow into more lol. Two angry individuals, with too much pride to accept that they like each other. Lastly, Mathew is actually my favorite, all three are my favs- but it’s something specifically about Matt, that just does it. Yes i’m Feral over Raven, love them. But Mathew being a sleepyhead is adorable. I’m also curious about the other side of him AKA…

In reality, they hide salacious and masochistic tendencies behind their seemingly sinless expression, and utilize pain to aid in maintaining their consciousness.

If I had any woes at all in general, it would be, MC being a doormat sometimes. I wish we had more options to act how Pierce acts. They outright put people in their place; especially when they feel protective of their brother, are provoked or angry. But I noticed when it came to us, MC seemed to have to just take it on certain scenes when being spoken too crazy.

so glad to see so many raven fans in one place lol

I feel like we should have options to not be horrified by this, like with R.

The closest you get is calmly talking them down. My response would be more like “Good, I can feel your anger. He is defenseless. Take your weapon. Strike him down with all of your hatred, and your journey towards completing basic training will be complete!”

Lmao, not you would’ve enabled it in front of everyone !! :joy:

For me, on that part, I wanted an option to just watch. Maybe someone else would step in and stop it- Then MC and V just walk off together, leaving everyone standing there like wtf.

Small Hotfix (1/8/2024)

The ending of L’s scene should now be fixed and able to be played through.

Some small typo and code fixes

I’m glad you enjoyed the father’s introductory scenes! There will be an additional scene shown soon after the festival that will give you another conversation with the father as well as a fuller explanation of what has been happening in the background of the festival celebrations.

For now, there are only subtle differences between all of the RO’s paths initially, but they will expand further apart when one of the paths become “locked”. How it will work is an ‘out of three’ system, where there will be three opportunities to make a “Key Decision” throughout the book for each RO. If you choose the same path option two times in a row, it’ll automatically lock to that path, but if you pick the option of one path for the first set, and then pick the other path’s option on the second set, you will be given a third time to choose your RO’s path, and whatever is chosen there will be the locked path

This information isn’t yet found in game, only as a snippet on my discord. Jagd likely won’t find much time for explanation within the book until they become more relevant later on, but this is what was typed on discord:
“Jagd is basically where they started putting the unrankable people after Triaina backfired. They are an expendable group comprised mostly of people that either couldn’t make it anywhere else in Vestian society, or have become entirely too screwed up to be useful in a group effort. They’re basically fodder, and anyone that survives very long in the Jagd division is either very insane, very dangerous, or more likely a mixture of both.”

Thank you all for enjoying Triaina: Academy as much as you are! I’m happy to see many of you are recieving the new festival positively, despite the timeframe of its development

I don’t remember if this has been hinted before (it’s been a long time, should probably reread again lol), but are the Hospians based on the Chinese? On L’s festival scene, I recognized “pengyou”? But I have no idea what “Yiqia” means. There’s also the bowing and rice bits, too. I liked the tidbit of Hospian lore; dropping Yiqia and then the hairpin.

I get more of a Mongolian vibe, maybe with bits of Germany and/or Russia.

You’d be correct in that Hospur is based on a mismash of eastern culture. Pengyou is taken directly from “friend” in mandarin, but Yiqia was a bit special in that I wanted an unused word for the special title. I used the root yi qi to mean ‘together’, and basically turned it to a noun to loosely translate to “a promised partner” in the Hospian context haha

Ah, that makes more sense now! It just surprised me when I came across the Mandarin, I was like “wait a minute?” Thanks for the explanation!

As for my reply, I think I got Hospur and Vestia mixed up.
