The Wight King(WIP) - Chapter 6 added (12/01/2023)

Basically I want Cassius’s gear alone to make him an S class monster and that fits the bill

He shall be known as General Cassius of the Horde and he will lead the largest army although its made of basically only zombies and skeletons but that why it’s called the Horde

I absolutely have no idea what happened here but it’s hilarious. XD

While I don’t care all that much, I feel like I should say this:

“Please, enough bullshit, I’d rather you all talk about the game or ask me questions. While it’s okay to go off-topic from time to time, I feel like recently this thread has been more about jokes and door memes than about the game.”

Now that the ‘Big brother instant’ is done:
By the way, how did you guys took over when I was sleeping? :face_with_raised_eyebrow:
What incredible timing.

I am sorry about that

I’m magic bud. What else could it be? I totally didn’t figure out your sleeping schedule by looking at the times you posted and then messing around during said time. :upside_down_face:

if this is true I am terrified

Be afraid. Be very afraid  muwahahahahahaha

As a report, three new stats will make their apparition in the next update.

-Intel: A stat that will be used in the first part of the story, during the hunt for the Wight King launched by Asterius, that will affect the templar’s efficiency, specifically that will amplify the actions of Asterius, the more he knows the more he will be able to harm you, be it directly or indirectly. It will not only affect his templars but also the various agents he may send against you.

-Skill and Power: Those stats represents respectively what the brutality/finesse stat used to, they will be the stats used to measure the effectiveness of your actions in combat. More power means you will be able to deliver massive attacks, often very flashy and direct, as well as use your powers on larger scales. While skill will make your attacks generally more efficient, allow more control and more possibilities. A Wight King centered on their power would be able to mass raise entire armies with a flick of their finger, while a skilled Wight King would be able to directly takes control and strengthen a few undead. Some actions require a portion of both skill and power for their maximum effect, specializing while still investing in the other is possible, and will open the most options. While pouring everything into one would allow GREATER effects, you may find yourself in a stalemate if one won’t work.

Eventually, more combat-only stats will be added or modified depending on what seems the best.

I know some people don’t like stats, especially for relationships and/or personalities, to them I say “don’t worry”. Relationships stats are used more to determine the general attitude of the character and the relationship between WK and them. But in the end, what will matter the most are your actions. For example, the Wight King and Dandelion might not like each other, but Dandelion will still respect and obey a Wight King that has proven themselves worthy of command (Dandelion has seen some shit, and he won’t take a kindly to a king that fails everything they do). Key events will be more decisive in the opinion of the character than the actual relationship stat.

As for the personality of the Wight King, the stats will be used more to determine the general attitude of the Wight King in front of some situations, it will sometimes have an inffluence, but it will not affect things as much as the choices will. For any situation, combats or dialogues, I will reward more tactically accurate choices than you staying ‘in character’. A Ruthless WK may spare someone in exchange for a favour without losing points in the ruthless stat, and will maybe benefit more from this action that a merciful character would. Just as convincing a character will rely only slightly on your stats, and much more on saying the right words to get them moving. The same goes for battles, it’s important that you think more about the advantages of each actions rather than what stat they may or may not be attached to.

Any questions? Worries? I’d be glad to answer them.

These are separate stats hopefully?

I came to the conclusion that opposed stats are kind of ill-suited when it comes to abilities in general.

Also with that, the necromancy stat will affect our undead less?

I only tolerate them as personality stats really, and even then it’s iffy for me.

Nope, Axis is still the main factor of how strong your necromancy and whatever other power you may obtain will be. But count that as a ‘modifier’. If power + Axis = huge, result = hide your children. Power and skill will work alone in situations when you aren’t using your powers, pure swordfights, regular actions like getting a boulder off of the road. In other situations they will most likely be paired with another stat.

Anyway, it’s all very beta-ish, I’m just trying things out to see what works the best.

Yep, not a fan either. But that’s still the most practical for personality stats. I don’t like ‘personality counters’ either so, I just picked one. It’s hard to create fluid personality by using stats.

What I’ll try to do later on with personality stats, is that the original personality you set for your character will be remembered by the others. And they may remark a change in behaviour if you did an action that was very against what your character would do. For example, a ruthless character acting in a very selfless manner, may do a backflip and become a ‘fallen ruthless’. Not really merciful but not ruthless either anymore. Or the opposite with an ‘hardened merciful’. I’ve planned some concepts like that for later. As to how I will implement those… We’ll see.

The best option for that might be to create pre-designed personalities, and plan evolutions for them later on.

For example:

*set personality: “jerk”

*choice
-#I help them up
—*set personality: “jerkwithaheartofgold”

On a more complex scale of course.

Why has the discussion suddenly come to game design again?

Heretic

Before you said we could change our allies, is there anyone we’d have trouble with changing back?

Well, when you change the people around you it’s no small deal. It is their very nature that changes. You can’t simply unmake their whole psychological travel. They won’t go back to how they used to be. Not so easily.

Imagine a killer-for-hire hanging the gun back on the hook, and deciding to turn over a new leaf. The guy manages to find relative peace and harmony into honest work (and becomes a shaolin monk or whatever because why not). I wouldn’t expect him to suddenly go “Oh, fuck it.” and go back into business. That’s either for comedic effect or a very rushed character development. Undoing character developpment is simply backtracking, it’s not an evolution of character, in fact it’s the opposite.

So no, if you manage to make a character change their ways, you won’t be able to simply change them back like nothing happened. That would just be weird. Even the Wight King’s influence has its limitations.

I don’t know why but I suddenly want to say this:

In this universe, monsters are seperated into three main kind:

-The chimeras: A chimera is a being that was affected by chaos and modified in any way. Griffins, wyverns, manticore, dire wolves, and many other ‘regular flesh and blood’ monsters(original or already existing) are chimeras.

-The fiends: Fiends are all extra-planar creatures, demons, angels, spirits in general, as well as the eldritch. It is possible for other creatures to become fiends one way or another.

-The homonculi: The homonculi are all lives that were created either by magic or by other means. Golems are the main example of homonculi, many beastkin, and some chimeras are also homonculi.

That’s pretty vague but that’s the basics for now.

Revisions are still going on. But I want to ask you:
Do you prefer that I rewrite both chapter 1 and 2, knowing it will probably dramatically slow the next update’s releasing. Or would you prefer that I finish the rewriting of chapter 1 and the writing of the new content, which would probably be quicker.

  • Rewrite both chapters first
  • Rewrite the first chapter and do the second later on

And next, do you want me to release the rewriting as soon as it’s finished or do you prefer that I finish
the new content as well before releasing?

  • NEW CONTENT, NEW CONTENT, NEW CONTENT!!! roar of the crowd
  • I’d like to see the rewriting first.
