Maybe it’s a chemical/scent thing with werewolves. Normally an Alpha is the biggest and strongest werewolf, right?

Maybe a True Alpha isn’t the biggest or strongest, but someone who can compel pack members to follow them.

…How to Train Your Dragon 2 comes to mind, that last bit with the huge *** dragon. I dunno, lol.

A alpha got it by killing a alpha but a true alpha is a normal werewolf and if he don’t kill anyone he later b comes a true alpha

Alpha I plan on making like a stat check so if you have enough strength and agility you’re more than likely gonna kill the current alpha although you may not have the loyalty of the pack , a true alpha you work your way up omega (lowest rank ) to delta (next level up) then beta then if you have a high relationship with most members of the pack you become a true alpha

Having to balance the two sides to the MCs identity would be interesting. Maybe a hulked out alpha b***** isnt as good at navigating social conventions, while a man or woman who prefers to cling to their humanity will have a harder time assimilating to werewolf norms.

I suppose I meant like, if the player chose to dump all their stats into strength instead of intelligence and charm, maybe more into being brusque instead of sensitive to boot.

Then again that’s what I meant by ‘hulked out’ of course, I can’t speak for the author!

Maybe that means that said MC whose built in that way is more likely to lose control and transform as you say.
