Maybe a sub-type in some cases, but not others? I feel like ‘detective’ could either refer to a police detective or a private detective/private eye.
Sort of the same - a PI just wouldn’t be a part of the police force, although they may assist them in addition to private citizens. Consequently you can tell different kinds of stories with a PI versus a detective on a police force, since they can be at odds with or operating “outside of the system”, as it were, in their own unique way.
Right, that’s why I put them in different boxes. Police detective Philip Marlowe is not.
Which is why the real MC is Bobby. Egotistical firecracker risking their life to uncover the shadowy multinational agency while being crossed by the villainous, but seemingly mild mannered ex and their mysteriously hot new team? Yeah that’s a protagonist.
I mean Bobby can get lost imo, but I would like to play the MC in that scenario!
That would also explain why the team has to run interference on the investigation; can’t have the civilian poking their nose in all that dangerous magic stuff (and risk them revealing it to the public… or getting killed).
Well, the little excitement I had for b4 has been crushed. I think me and wayhaven will part ways until A stops taking endless steps back, if ever.
Have to agree that Wayhaven is rapidly turning into a waste of reading time. I still keep an eye out on her Patreon, but what turns up there suggests that her fans think that any crumb is better than none and they might be better off reading something else.
Has anyone worked out why the “evil one” put a knight on Rooks gravestone, beyond the Knight representing law and order, as in a police man? A rook represents a chariot.
I thought it maybe representative of her somehow? Had something to do with her name or some other part of her identity? Not sure what, though.
It’s probably a mutual nickname between them: she was the one that gave Rook his nickname of, well, Rook, so maybe he nicknamed her Knight. They’re both chess pieces.
Rook:
Knight:
In b4 the secret society with members all named after chess pieces
Now that I got confirmation my main ro will, unsurprisingly, go nowhere in the next book I shall also say goodbye to wayhaven. I want to say until b5, but if it will drop in 84 years then it’s bye bye for good bc no one could hold onto an inch of curiosity that long.
Would love to stick around for M, but even in that case my expectations are below ground at this point.
I cant wait to read another M romance scene that is complete guesswork and needs a decoder to translate.
A part of me is curious how long both M and the MC can go without acknowledging that they love each other.
If A, who a lot of readers tend to think of as a favorite, will get a nothingburger in b4 (alas more cat and mouse pointless shenanigans) then M (who’s already at a disadvantage) will probably have that nothingburger doubled. ![]()
I think it was chani who said this once, but I’m starting to believe the take of “M will never have a straight up yeah we love each other confirmation” lol
That’s not a dealbreaker for me, thankfully, but I can understand how it would be for others.
Oh it’s not a problem per se, I don’t need them to say it in text so to speak, but I want to feel it rather than think we’re fine now only for M to go “this means nothing” (again)
More forced stupidity from M is what we’ll get. I had thought that maybe if A-mancers got a relationship in b4, M might “realize” their feelings, at the very least (instead of being a mouth-breather who can’t find their way out of a box), but if A-mancers aren’t getting a relationship, there’s no way in hell M will get out of stupid-mode.
Yep, this is what we’ll get. And, if we even get sex scenes, we’ll have to try to decipher wtf is happening in those, too.
From what I’ve read in the code, MC is already forced to start realizing they have feelings. My M-mancer was intentionally oblivious until the bakery scene, and then she realized it. M will insist it’s not love for another full book or two, at least, and even then, I don’t think it’ll be said.
Bingo.
That was, indeed, me. And I still wholly believe it. There was a tumblr ask I’ve put up quite a few times, wherein Mishka states, “the MC will just know how M feels about them”. That’s as close to a declaration from M we’ll get, had I to bet.
That’s not a deal breaker for my M-mancer, but she’ll always doubt that he loves her, no matter what is forced on the MC to believe. Without M saying it–and M stating he doesn’t want to be with anyone but her–she’ll figure he’s still fucking other people, too.
Don’t hold your breath, lol.
We’ll probably get some iteration of this once per book until the very last page of B7. Then we’ll be safe, lol.
