The Wayhaven Chronicles General Discussion (SPOILER FREE FOR BOOK THREE!)

You can only romance the villain in b4 if you’re on the friend route. I really wish it was an option for A and M-mancers, something they could be drawn to after being spat on by their LI again (or even with F and N-mancers who haven’t started a relationship with them and crave some excitement). It could’ve prompted some change in the relationships and given the MC a bit more power to balance the dynamic between them. But nope, it’s only for MCs who aren’t romancing anyone.

Yep, to all of that. It would’ve been a nice distraction from the annoyances that UB heaps onto the MC. And it could have been one of those things that made M and A realize they were willing to fight to get the detective to be with them (and realize that’s what they want, in M’s case). It could’ve been glorious.

D’oh. I really need to start reading over what I post… I’ve made a lot of typos of late. I’m usually posting while doing at least two other things, though, lol.

The Wayhaven Chronicles: a Telltale experience.

Now that’s disappointing, I would’ve taken the jealousy/“look I said this new fling was bad news” cliche in a heartbeat, I’m desperate, I wasn’t kidding about ant mills.

There might be? I know I should not hope but after Mishka said that the new villain will “push” the ROs, idk what else that entails…
Specifically for A and M routes. As A has let the detective go uwu they have every right to smash bobby or the villain or whoever the fuck they want. I know he will have the audacity to question the detective or stop them, but I really want a distraught detective moment where they just go wild in a pub :skull:

I can’t stand the N route jesus. I’m sorry N stans, I tried, I really did. Read 2 books but couldn’t make myself read the third. He just comes off as so condescending, dominating and…fake. He has like a paint drying personality and it throws me off how he treats the detective like a child ffs. Even A with all his assholery didn’t make it seem like he actually sees the detective as a child. For someone who is all about trust and love and a rose tinted vision he sure does hide a lot, including his opinions. If you’re actually a nice person, you don’t have to hide behind a facade. I’m genuinely curious in what people see in N. My friends that do like N see his alarming possessiveness as care and worry.

(Note: This is not a slight against N romancers, you like who you like, don’t let me get you down. I’m open to a discussion with people that disagree with me.)

That’s because the people who favour the N romance, by definition, favour the “noble falls for peasant” trope, and “peasant has to completely change their behaviour because of the noble’s traditions and habits” is a wagon that you’re are NOT dehitching from that locomotive.

This ask just popped in my head after what you wrote lmao

I’ve never notice that before. (I romance F, but i try every route after i finish a new book). It’s true that N don’t tell us some important details (like everything about their past). Remember that scene at the bakery where MC asked about their childhood and N turned that question back at us? I’m worried that it’s just a matter of time before MC’ll do something N won’t approve of and end up tied up in N’s basement.

There’s a reason I’ve been worried about N’s path inching into yandere territory. I’m always drawn to the responsible, gentlemanly types, and those always seem to be the ones who yeet themselves off the deep end as soon as you actually reach their route (which some folks love, but it ain’t what I’m looking for!).

Who knows. Considering the most recent ask stated that M wouldn’t even care until “later” if Bobby rubbed it in that the MC loved him and all M has is sex with the MC, and even then M wouldn’t understand why they gave a shit, I’m not really counting on the “push” meaning a damned thing. M will realize their feelings at the very end of b4 or in b5 no matter what happens.

I mean, if having the MC kidnapped by people M knew intended to sell the MC for the blood (and probably drain them completely and kill them, since that seems to be the go-to for those morons), there’s really nothing that would make M realize they have feelings for the MC until whatever bullshit scene she decided on finally happens. The same applies for A. Gotta drag this shit on and on for the sake of “angst”. :face_vomiting:

Then, after A and M finally pull their heads out of their asses (A will definitely be end of b4, and M will be end of b4 if we’re lucky, which I’m not counting on), we get dumped into b5 with nothing but more fucking angst so A and M-mancers don’t get any goddammed time to actually be happy with their SO(B)s before getting shoved face first into another pile of angsty shit.

This means, at best, we get two games out of seven with actual relationships (or, in M’s case, magically “knowing” M cares). That is less than 30% of the series spent in a state with M or A where the MC can actually be with them without A’s hot/cold BS or M acting like he has the intelligence of a fucking flea that got bitten in half.

I just wish the MC could walk the fuck away. I don’t need the MC to be able to date anyone else (though it’d be nice), but with A, the MC should be able to shut them the fuck down and shut them down hard when they start their longing look “I must stay away” shit. And if M is going to continue being a fucking idiot that runs hot and cold, I’d like the same option with them–walk the fuck away. It’d be nice–for once–for those two to have to go to the MC and try to mend things, or start things, instead of the MC always being forced to chase them down to beg for crumbs.

I never really thought it about N’s romance this way, and couldn’t figure out why it grated on me so much, but this tracks. I’ve never liked the noble/peasant trope for the very reasons you list. It’s like the narrative thinks N is too good for any MC that doesn’t behave a certain way. Blah!

OMG, for N to think that way… just… ewww. Especially since he turned out to be such a horny bastard in b3. He judges M so harshly but can’t wait to get in the MC’s pants any opportunity he gets. Ass.

This is what my husband says, lol. And now his second LT-mancer–the one he intended to be with N–is afraid of N and thinks she’s going to end up chained in N’s closet. His other LT-mancer is just using Nat to make Ava jealous because he’s a sociopath.

Love Triangle N is fucking creepy if you don’t respond to his advances. If my colleague tried to hold my face in his hands and kiss me without my permission, I’d write a resignation paper and move into depths of Ural Mountains to the earth’s core.

It’s as if N got bitten by B1!M and A managed to pull his head out of his arse in LT where MC favours A - on one side there are harassment and generally weird behaviour, on another there are actually decent signs, and it’s not who you think it is having these features.

It’s actually pretty funny, but in other books I would probably enjoy N’s clinginess and dependency. Main issue is, however, narrative trying to hammer in that him not respecting MC constantly saying “no, please go away” is so very sexo. This crush on two of them turned into a real nasty Uroborous.

If the villain is worth it, I might add a third person to my typical parade of Detectives. Xiulan and Lara really need a neutral presence.

Yeah RIP to all those people that wanted a gentle suave man and instead got a yandere horndog. I get that Mishka wants to make him interesting since we already have an angst free route (F) but it’s better if she sticks to his book 1 personality.

This!! N’s route is not what it advertised at all, and I feel very confused by this change in personality push. Am I the only one that feels that the characters were rather inconsistent in book 3? That was the first thought when I read the whole book (the demo’s were fine) but I was so happy with A not being a brick wall that I conveniently ignored it. Maybe this is why Mishka hit the jackpot with M, he was much softer, affectionate and had tons of growth, and if she planned all that she wouldn’t have been surprised by the rise of his popularity in book 3. I really feel like she needs to read all the previous books before writing every chapter or two, rather than rewriting the previous book to fit her current version.

The way I think of it is that M has no idea what love or having feelings means, like zero clue because he has never experienced it. So he does recognize that something is very different with the detective situation but can’t put a finger on what. There’s an ask where it said that if the MC confessed her love in book 3 M would have realized his love too, which strengthens my reasoning. This is just my way to ignore and cope as M is a character that I love and I can’t let him get ruined.

The things I would give for a normal domestic moment with A/M with no romance involved. Just a long happy talk. Otherwise, it seems like they only talk to each other for the can we fuck conversation. I need the why I wanna fuck reason too.

Same braincells, I created a whole new detective to use Nate as a stepping stone for Adam, I don’t feel bad for it considering just how pushy he is in LT. There’s no way to not romance or be neutral. I wanted a one-sided thing going on but oh well.

I don’t play the LT (I tried and I just hated my MC for being an asshole jerking them around), but on A’s solo route, it’s another HR nightmare of having to report to someone who is emotionally toying with you. You’ve got sexual harassment from N and a toxic work environment with A as your boss (and hell, throw Rebecca into the mix as well, and it’s seriously fucked up).

Yeah. I honestly thought N was going to be the typical old romance “courtship” story, with N being all proper and moving slowly toward “more”. I figured he’d commit early, but the progress would be slow, and the MC would slowly learn about his past because he seemed somewhat stable. Only thing is, he’s an emo tween, too, so you get the scene with him dropping the picture and breaking it or whatever as soon as a tiny bit of his story was leaked, and he’s turning into a damned yandere who is a sex addict.

Of all the LIs, I figured the first time with N would be flower petals on a bed with candles and all that romantic bullshit. Instead, your first time is a quick fuck on a pool table, then he runs out to go work. It’s like, seriously? This is your romance-oriented LI and we get a QF for the first time and him leaving a half-dressed MC as soon as the deed is done? The first time with M blew that out of the water, and M didn’t even give a shit about the MC back then!

The problem with A is that the only thing “promised” from them is the Ice Queen/King story. In their romance path, A has always seemed bipolar and emotionally (and mentally) unstable to me. The A you get in the friend route is like a different person–still somewhat detached at first, but stable. A’s romance has never felt like it was a “thawing the ice queen/king” story, or even like a rival story. It’s just every bad element that comes with tween romances, replete with the desperate MC chasing them around.

M is the one she has the most problems writing (her words, not mine) and the only one she seems to outright dislike. I suspect the rise of M’s popularity will mean we see that same behavior from the other LIs, at varying degrees and in different ways. Really, I am beginning to wonder if the reason we got horndog N in b3 is because people enjoyed M’s impulsive sex scenes in b2, so she wanted to make N “better” by giving them the same kind of thing only with the feelings. It was just weird and off-putting for some people, though.

The only problem with this is that we’re left with an M who will only realize it’s love when the MC tells them first–since even a possibly dead MC doesn’t elicit this realization–and we aren’t allowed to do that yet. I just have this bad feeling that, if M realizes in b4, it will be at the end, when M and MC dance together (after the MC is forced to ask them) and the MC gets all soft and says they love M. Then M is like, “Oh… duh… that’s what it is… whatever… let’s bone!”

There is zero reason it should take that long save for “it has to happen when they dance!”. If the only way M is going to realize is if the MC says it first, then let the MC fucking SAY IT and don’t just dangle it in our faces and jerk it away because it has to be when they fucking dance.

Of course, it will likely be b5 before M “realizes” it. But, again, what the hell could possibly prompt it other than the MC saying it first? Unless an extended separation from the MC during b5 does it and M realizes at the end of that game. Which I could totally see, especially if M thinks they permanently lost the MC.

Me too. :sob: I want my M-mancer to get what bff!M MC’s get. I want an A-mancer to get what bff!A MC’s get. Instead, we get an endless buffet of angst and stupidity.

Is this a bricklayers’ forum or what? So many text blocks, damn

They’re on to us! Quickly, immure them!

I still can’t believe this is real. If A leaves right after too…what the fuck. Your replies are too funny tho I almost choked when you called A bipolar pls.

They are the best bffs hands down. F’s quips get annoying after like the first 2 times and Nate is…Nate, whether you date him, befriend him or hate him, can’t tell the difference. Mfer is still gonna smile and uwu all the way.

I do want to talk about how…inactive the author has been though. But I’m torn about it. On one hand she needs her own space and time to concentrate and doesn’t owe us updates but on the other hand we have to wait years for one book and continuing to support it every time it releases requires us to follow it continuously and be excited about it. Not asking for 100 asks answered a week lmao, just something of substance. Most of them are cherry picked and even then what we get is a “non answer”. I’m slowly moving away from the book and am pretty sure I wont be there for book 7. She should seriously consider this for retaining her fanbase.

I aim to amuse. Well, sometimes… :stuck_out_tongue:

I found F slightly annoying in b1. In b2, I found him a lot more annoying. In b3, my MC wanted to hogtie him and leave him gagged in a closet for a few years. Every time he opens his damned mouth around M or A, I have the undeniable urge to crawl into the game and kick the shit out of him so he learns some damned manners. My MCs are hardly the epitome of manners, but they don’t just stir shit up for their own entertainment or insult their friends every chance they get. F is an asshole.

On the fanbase...

Yeah, any interesting information isn’t shared because “it could be a spoiler!”, which makes it impossible to get excited about anything. Hell, even on Patreon, the only “spoilers” you get are gushing over how great a scene was that she wrote. The “sneak peeks” are usually a single sentence, with no damned context, so they are virtually worthless.

But, then again, when you’re steadily making 10k+ a month without having to share any information about future games, how characters will develop, and can get away with laughing off everything as “can’t tell you, it’s a spoiler!”, why would you bother doing anything else? If you can get away with no communication and no information provided to your followers, then there’s no real incentive to do otherwise. It’s basic return on investment: if investing very little gives you a great return, there’s no reason to invest more.

A lot of us probably won’t be, for varying reasons. Someone on Patreon asked in a comment about how long we should expect to get to the end, and gave a conservative guesstimate of 8+ years. I pointed out it will likely be 15-20 years, given the branches she has to account for and how big b5 and b7 will be.

I mean, when you look at the branching in the game, as much as I get annoyed with the lack of choices within the branches, if she actually gave a reasonable number of choices in each branch, each game would probably take her 10 years to write. Personally, I would’ve rather had fewer second-tier NPC branches (like Tina/Verda), with more flavor text based on the MC’s personality, more choices within the romances, and more branching paths in the romances, since that’s what these games are supposed to be focused on.

I think, from a marketing perspective, for every fan that walks away, there will be some tweener showing up to replace them. Tweens, after all, seem to be the target audience for this series. And as long as the fanbase replenishes itself, then she probably doesn’t care.

You and me both. Him yapping during the explanation of tiers in book 1 was by far the worst (the part where he makes a remark after every person’s tier is revealed). I saw red.

I mean, why choose an ask if you won’t answer it? So confused.
Also say sike right now, 10k?! Is this confirmed? I’m flabbergasted, that’s such a hefty amount. In my eyes it’s all the more reason to keep the fanbase happy.
