The Wayhaven Chronicles General Discussion (SPOILER FREE FOR BOOK THREE!)

Ehh from what i remember of books 1 and 2 they definitely gave you hints that Nate/Nat are more sinister than what is presented. The story about the boat where tgey were found with everyone else being dead, comments from F and a few moments where you two are together and danger is present kinda give vibes tgat they are more deranged than they appear and the suave/happiness is just a front for their true behaviors.

I dont think the author ever really cared much for the forum, I believe her profile still says that she is currently working in book one, for example. And the last thing she did on the forum (that I know of) was asking the mods to shut down that Book 3 discussion, so she maybe/possibly/who knows still reads somethings around here from time to time.

I guess she is more confortable over in Tumblr, maybe because she can very easily not engage with criticism there? Or maybe spending who knows how long looking for gifs to respond a ask about how would the ROs react to something or other is more fun than interacting with us miserable forum dwellers.

As someone who romance F, i agree. If you have “funny” character who tries to be funny all the time or probes others just to get a reaction out of them, your character is dumb, childish asshole. Plus i think F is supposed to have some powers when they know how others feel, so that makes them even more insensitive.

I suspect she has bitten off much more than she can chew. What might have seemed quite straightforward when she started out may be turning out to be a chore, and she could well be suffering burn out. I also don’t think its in her interest to get through these books too fast from what I have observed on Patreon.
Its much easier to toss out teasers than actually do too much solid writing and even the holiday bonus appeared to take some effort on her part, and she was not bound by the restrictions of the main games. Whether this is due to burn out and health issues, including writer’s block, or she has succumbed to the adulation from her ardent supporters, only time will tell. But I have noticed subtle changes to books 1 and 2 so she may well be revising them to fit in with the direction the narrative is going to take.

I’d laugh, but it’s probably true. We’re like the mole people, lol.

I know, right? F is like the worst empath ever. You’d think they would’ve learned at least some semblance of acceptable behavior by now. I probably wouldn’t mind it as much if it was just the asshole comments to the MC about their looks, their apartment, their car, etc. (though I’d love to have the opportunity to tell F to shut the fuck up), but when F starts fucking around with the MC’s LI–and making things worse for them because they won’t keep their mouth shut–I just can’t stand them anymore. I swear, the next time F opens his mouth to my M-mancer, my M-mancer would likely beat the hell out of him.

The thing is, though, there are basically no “teasers”, either. Her patreon has next to nothing about what will happen in the near future, and the only “teasers” you get are meaningless one-liners that may as well have been telling you about A taking a shit. Most of it is just gushing about how great scenes are, with zero info about the damned scene. And even the quarterly scenarios have changed–instead of UB-focused scenarios, half the time they’re about other teams. You know, the ones we see once before they disappear into a hole never to be seen again.

How have they changed? I just checked steam and b1 was updated last spring and b2 was updated in August of last year. I haven’t played them in a while. Is the MC even more UwU and annoying than they were before? With the prose being expanded into the overly flowery crap we got in b3?

A few options in choices I regularly make with my MC seem to have vanished, can’t think which at the moment. The changes are subtle and don’t seem to impact the story, unless you want to go down a particular route and not be a complete doormat. It had more an effect on how I saw my character develop. I suspect a couple of snarky comments from A have been changed too. I was going down the A route and it didn’t fit with how I remembered it when I went to check something. I hadn’t played the first two books for a while either so the changes could have happened last year.

Oh, do we have another BG3 on our hands?

I’m honestly thinking that Sera doesn’t know what “empath” actually means, and she thinks it’s someone who gets power from emotions instead (as F is mentioned as being able to use emotions to empower their pheromones). If that’s the case, she wouldn’t be the first one: Marvel beat her to it by decades, where the dude called Empath can manipulate emotions. He’s as much of an asshole as you’d expect from someone with his powerset.

I mean, no offense to her but those trailers and teasers are so bad I get secondhand embarrassment, something of that quality can be created in minutes with the stock images, “intense” music and some text slapped on it, yet it’s hyped like it’s made by Nolan. I remember when the book 3 trailer was released, even with my excitement the cringe was too much.

Oh, dont worry, they are probably getting set up so we can have a incredible avengers-ish scene where they come together to fight the big bad at the end of book 7.

Something, something epic battle. Ro gets injured (A probably) and then only THEN they will confess they have feelings for MC. tHE end./

I just hope Book 4 changes things up, because if it continues down the same path so far I’m seriously thinking about dropping the saga.

I’ve already said it but the plot, villain and development of the LIs in the previous book were pretty lame. Besides, the author can’t keep dragging things out.

Don’t get me wrong. It’s their story, so they can do whatever they want to. However, I think they should look for reviews or opinions about the game so far. I don’t know about other forums but you can actually see many of us don’t like the way the story is going on.

Murphy was the only I ever took seriously. Dude was disgusting and drained people of blood in order to get more powerful. He chased and tortured Mc. Killed a kid just because. Falk just mostly broke people mirrors and pretended to be bloody Mary, but in the end all was resolved nicely. They have a meadow. :partying_face:

She has done for quite a while now haha

I don’t want to sound like I’m “piling on” mischa (my phone does not like to spell her name right for some reason ugh) but for every person on here who dislikes the way that the plots/love interests are going…there are 100 more people on tumblr/instagram/beta testing who will enable her to carry on writing the way that she is, e.g. flowery, breathlessness, drawn out convoluted books with no real “threat” aside from if your RO will come to dinner with you or not. :roll_eyes:

If each book had been more specifically devoted to the units, this might have worked better. Unit Alpha ought to have been present throughout Book 2, and their appearance later on would have been more significant. They could have been a part of the training session; for instance, the detective could’ve been training with them or observing them spar with Unit Bravo. I don’t care for any of those teams right now, so it would have been better if the detective had had some time to get to know them. The same is true in the case of Unit Victor.

Try checking out her Patreon! The income from that alone may be an explanation for what is happening, and the fan adulation on there shows why our opinions don’t matter. I don’t want to dump on Mischka either, but I suspect that her original aims and ambitions have changed as she writes, or perhaps tries to write, as things might have got out of hand and she is struggling to cope.

I mean, she has always been very vocal about not being open to criticism, which is fair I suppose. But then it should be no surprise to her that many people hate the direction the books are going in. I’m honestly kinda intrigued to see what she will cook without getting influenced by anyone.

I think that is exactly what will happen, though we still won’t actually ever know them. We just get another team intro per book until the end where they all show up. Personally, I’d rather get to know the members of one of the teams–preferably UA, not UV because Alima can fuck the hell off, but I know she’ll be rammed down our throats to bring “angst” for M and because she’s obviously one of Mishka’s favorite Mary Sues.

Lol. And M will magically pull their head out of their ass and “realize” what they feel for the MC–but they won’t bother telling the MC. THE END!

M’s development was good during the second half of b3 up until the very end, where suddenly they’re stupid again. The rest, I agree on. The plot had such great potential and it was wasted. The villain was ridiculous and not the slightest bit scary. The entire plot of the book was a damned clusterfuck, but it only exists to create certain scenes so that’s what we should probably expect going forward.

You wanna bet on that? If we’re lucky, M will suddenly “understand” their feelings for the MC at the end of b4. Otherwise, it’ll be dragged out for b5, too.

Exactly. And she’s not exposed to anyone who has anything to say other than “everything you do is perfect! oooh, angst! swoon!”, and that is unlikely to change. So, from here on out, I suspect we’ll just get more of the same–or worse, since everyone tells her they want more of the same. It may, and probably will, get worse with each successive game.

@mordorintrigue, I like your idea of having the units be more present in the games where they are introduced. It would’ve made sense, and would’ve given us a chance to get to know them so they aren’t just random acquaintances. But, then again, wasting that time on other teams instead of allowing us to get to know the LIs better and having more scenes progressing that would just piss me off more. Though, again, fuck UV and their fluttery eye-lashed perfect beauty Alima… :face_vomiting:

And anyone who points out any flaws is either ignored or dogpiled on. Last year, one guy really voiced his displeasure and got attacked for it. I randomly make snarky comments over there instead of directly critical ones, because those seem to be more tolerated, at least. Even if they are still ignored, lol.

She hasn’t been influenced by anyone, save for the people who tell her everything is perfect. I think that’s the problem…

Alphas were pretty nosy - too nosy for my liking to like them that much, to be honest.

You meet someone the first time. Your teams are both government agents that kind of glow in the dark. There’s an issue with yet another rogue supernatural bullshit.

Do you:

a) get straight to business and decide which team does which, keeping it professional;

b) strike small talk to break the ice, but not get too deep;

c) immediately start sniffing new team members and start asking if a new guy / girl / person is dating the guy with a sequoia lodged up his arse;

If you picked c), congratulations! You are qualified to work for the agency.
