The Wayhaven Chronicles: Book Three (WIP -FINAL DEMO)

BTw, the Keeper series (like Keeper of the Sun and Moon) is choicescript, not sure why you have it as a non-CS one.

So what was it like around here while waiting for Book 2 to come out? Was there much activity or just a few posts here and there?

If I was around during that time I just cannot for the life of me remember. And I don’t feel like going through all my past posts.

Thank you for the correction!

Oh yeah, the Wayhaven thread moved way too fast back then for me to keep up with so I only posted a few times, lol…even faster than now. I think the book 2 demo had just come out when I started the series, so there was a lot of activity with speculation about book 2.

That scene hurt me, and it hurt me again on every replay. Why does the MC just stand there? Why?! And why doesn’t Unit Bravo have any tactics worked out to deal with flying opponents? And why does everyone keep not noticing the big flying supernatural (I notice eagles flying around nearby very quickly!)? Of course, Unit Bravo somehow manged to run everywhere at supernatural speeds and no one noticed that, so… okay, I know, stop thinking about it. No thinking! Only kissing hot vampires!

As would we all, but I wouldn’t hold my breath.

Very good point. I don’t know why Sin even stood there after UB moved toward him. All he had to do was fly over to the MC, snatch them up, and be off. And if the MC had actually run, Sin would’ve had them in a heartbeat. But if either of those things had happened–or it had gone down like you said, with UB surrounding the MC to try to protect them–the scene with the LI being knocked around couldn’t have happened to angstify the MC.

I think that’s how we have to make sense of the plot: when things are just completely incomprehensible, take a look at what angsty scene results from it. And that’s why it happened.

The LIs only notice anything when the plot requires it. Otherwise, they’re oblivious and walking around with blindfolds on and their fingers in their ears so they don’t have to learn something useful before it has been designated they will learn it. The same is true of the MC and every other character.

You keep saying this. I’m going to have to add it to my list now.

Eh, it’s not that fast now. Kinda quiet, actually, but it’s more relaxed now, and more pleasant, than it had gotten for a while back then.

@Requiem @EvilChani
Doesn’t the first meeting with Sin take place in a clearing in a forest? “Get under the trees” is a good move against flying thingies, unless I’m misremembering.

It has one of the triple treat LIs for me, Hawkins: the three characters I personally consider the pinnacle of romantic options. It’s generally quite solid and I’ve enjoyed reading it.

Anyway, what exactly do you need to convince Sin and does it change anything?

Another question. How do I force maalused to go rogue? I need it for Lara’s route.

Be hostile at every turn (and physically attack them whenever possible) and don’t succeed in rescuing Sanja. That’s what gets them to throw their lot in with the rogues rather than either signing the treaty or making peace (and getting land) with the Agency without signing anything.

Weirdest thing is, I’ve tried. Lara threw hands with them at every possible opportunity, was dismissive of their views about justice, killed Sanja, and yet they still came to Agency and got land.

Some of the replies that you think may piss them off doesn’t actually piss them off, especially if your MC picks responses that make Falk think.

Also, you need to make sure that you don’t have any peace points. If I remember correctly, if you get any peace points, that automatically negates your hostile points. If you want, I can go dig it up. I have it jotted down in a file.

As for convincing Sin…

If you manage to ally with him, you can save the prisoners and Sin will dump the auctioneer at your feet. If you have five points with him at that point, and you choose the answer about him being safe, then he’ll ally specifically with your MC and not the Agency as a whole (totally the way my main MC went).

Please do! I always imagined Lara having incredibly severe PTSD from being kidnapped by Murphy, him escaping with blood of several dead citizens on his hands, supernaturals bringing nothing but trouble to the city she wants to protect, so her being the run in which they go rogue makes the most sense. If I’d ever get to play Hunter from World of Darkness line, I’ll probably make her a witch-hunter.

Okay, so to get the hostile ending:

  1. Treaty can’t be higher than peace
  2. Treaty can’t be higher than hostile
  3. Peace can’t be higher than hostile
  4. Hostile has to either be higher than peace or higher than treaty

Easiest way to get this:

  1. Shoot the mirror
  2. Insult the decor (“made the leaky walls a feature”, lol)
  3. Use the “judgment based on your opinion” choice
  4. Spray them with DMB when they show up at the Warehouse (you can use a skill you’ll fail at, too, but it’s funnier to spray them with DMB if you’re playing a character who doesn’t like them or is trigger happy)
  5. If Sanja dies, you get another +2 hostile.
  6. Tell Falk his brand of justice is flawed

That did it for Jax.

She did get one peace point by saying the Agency isn’t as fallible as they like to think (irking Adam in the process), but she still ended up with them hostile to her. And Falk didn’t like her at all (0 points with Falk!), so he happily attacked her in her apartment.

Hu-uh, it’s quite hard to fuck it up. And I was deliberately trying to do so.

Yeah, it’s not easy to fuck it up. With Jax, I have the right combination of someone who is incompetent, can’t keep her damned mouth shut, shoots at anything that moves, and just, generally, doesn’t give a damn about her job or much of anything. So she slid right into disaster.

My other three all got treaties.

I think Xiulan didn’t get the treaty either, but land instead. I imagine my two Detectives would work wonderfully with each other and share mutual dislike of supernatural bullshit, obstructing teammates and romantic feelings. Also the tendency to shoot on sight, but that mainly comes from their author’s constant tendency for doing just that in most games she played.

There’s a saying in Russian that describes the modus operandi of my pair quite well. Originally it was “лежачих не бьют”, “don’t hit those lying down”, but the iteration I use is “лежачих не бьют, лежачих пинают”, “don’t hit those lying down, kick them instead”. I like playing the prickliest bastards if given the chance, even if they generally have noble intentions.

Prickly characters are a blast to play. Dezh is like that, but she’s also ridiculously genuine when she actually says what she’s thinking. Unless you piss her off, then she turns sarcastic and combative. Well, more combative than usual. But hurt someone she cares about and she’ll wordlessly rip someone to shreds and pick her teeth with their bones. Oddly, her blunt way of dealing with things seemed to impress Falk. Go figure.

I also like playing the overly sarcastic ones, if they’re the less prickly sort (I can’t do over the top happy schmappy characters unless I’m being spiteful and making the character that way in a darker narrative). Snarking their way through life, so that when they’re finally genuine, people don’t quite know what to think.

Well, Jax doesn’t fit into that category of my typically sarcastic characters because she’s a moron. I’m wondering just how many times she can fuck up in each of the games. And if her stats will stay as low as they are, because her being too competent would ruin her character. Seems to fit how we’re supposed to play the MC, anyway, lol.

My teenage crush was Sergei Dragunov from Tekken, so my characters often find themselves having the traits that grasped vera’s teen heart in that samboist: non-talkative to the point of being a selective mute in some games (my mercenary in Golden Rose only spoke when the game forced him to interact with characters in a more direct manner), cold and brisk demeanor, stiff upper lip, keeping to themselves, being blasé about violence and murder, being stoic and collected, generally being an intimidating, strict and demanding presence, putting a lot of importance in constant competence.

I find playing such characters a very interesting experience because, of course, they’re not just that, there’s more under the surface, but to break such an ice king you’d need industrial equipment or genuine connection. It can create very interesting dynamics with other characters, I’ve always had a weakness for dynamics of cinnamon rolls paired with absolutely unmoving and protective bastards or equally warlike birds of feather… I just need to make my collection of games where my usual type doesn’t break character bigger. Currently they’re a bit of a rarity.

You must really like BREACH and Mouse then

I haven’t gotten into it, sadly. It isn’t really my thing.
