They all have a veeeerry long time to think about their decisions, lmao.
It doesn’t help that the exact how’s of turning are a mystery - is it something you can do on a spur of the moment? (i.e. confronted with ‘turn or die’ and they don’t have much time to choose) or does it require set up and planning?
I think this has been purposely avoided by Sera because it is something that will very likely appear in future books. So far, the only information we have about transformation, is that is a very hard process in the human body, and people is most likely to die during it.
I can imagine this being a conversation that the MC will have with their RO in later books, so its probably a matter of patience!
Saaaame Like, I’m already so excited for the first time Bobby drops their nickname in front of a romanced M but!! Rebecca. Super protective mom Rebecca who broke rules and fought Thralls for her child??
She didn’t say how to get the highest friends points for any of them. I just figured M’s out on my own by doing speed playthroughs and checking the points after the choices.
She did give the max points she found for each character, though. Once I find that post, I’ll put a link up here. I can’t remember the max for anyone but M and A, because they had the lowest possible number of friend points, which makes sense.
I do have a list of what gives you friend points for each one, but there may be one or two missing for each character. I’ll do some speed playthroughs for the others to make sure I get everything, though.
Yeah, I do as well. I get the feeling the Agency’s scientists have not treated him well at all.
Honestly, with N, to me it seems more like a regret than the fact that they were forced into it. Like they decided to do it, then after a while started missing being human. And I think the impersonal way the Agency seems to operate doesn’t help matters. They made the comment that the detective has “woken” the team in a way they’ve all needed for a long time. And I think N is right.
The only connections the team has is to each other, and while they are clearly very close to each other, they just kinda feed each other’s deep-seeded issues. And a lot of those issues, for the three who were once human, stem from the fact that they can’t connect or don’t have the opportunity to connect to anyone outside of the team. They look human, and still have human qualities, but they are vampires and, therefore, different enough that they can’t really relate (and are afraid to relate, for various reasons). They came right out and said most other supernaturals hate vampires and don’t want to work with them. Where does that leave them? Isolated, really, and they all deal in different ways.
M’s only connection to still feeling human is… the physical touch (trying to keep it PG here) and their sense of humor, that almost no one else finds funny (I understand this all too well). So outside of those two things, M has learned not to give a damn about anything (and has learned to expect hostility to the point where, when the MC says they’re happy the team dropped by, M’s response is a disbelieving “really?”).
A is focused entirely on work and makes that their life. Anything else is dismissed as unimportant or not worthy of trust because A fears feeling anything. And they are really afraid of their own humanity. They also, like M, expect everyone to react poorly to them and treat them like monsters.
N… wants more, but there haven’t been any opportunities until now to feel connected again. N reminds me of the outsider kid, in a way. And has responded in a way that is the antithesis to how M and A deal with being treated like they have the plague. N is the nice kid who tries to respond to mistreatment with humility and kindness in hopes that treating others the way they want to be treated will earn them the same treatment, but deep down is kind of broken inside because they crave connections and friendship and feeling loved.
F… also wants more, but tries to find fun where they can. Really, F is the most balanced and human acting of all four of them, which is interesting since F is a ‘natural’ vampire. Maybe it’s the fact that F never knew what it was like to be human, so it’s not a problem for them. Or maybe F is just that freaking awesome, lol
Yikes, that was longer than I meant it to be…
Edited to add:
This is my belief as well. It would explain a lot about the character and their personality.
I think its canon now that the Agency does treat their Agents well. If M is a product of science as its been theorised around, I am a strong believer that the Agency wasn’t cruel with them.
If this is true, I am sure that whatever happened during the experiments, any pain, scars, or whatever, was unintentional on the Agency side. They care for their Agents a lot, and they are all about life, so I find hard to believe that they would be playing mad scientist that has no remorse with their subjects.
M: We are not in a relationship. I don’t do relationships.
F: You’ve spent almost every night for the last three weeks at the detective’s apartment.
M, with a cocky smirk: Still doesn’t prove anything. Other than…
N: Please don’t finish that sentence.
F: You answered her door earlier today when we all showed up.
M: I was there and she was still in the shower. So what?
F: You made her ex literally pee his pants when you met him.
M: He’s an asshole.
F: You’re wearing the jacket she bought you, a shirt she bought you, and–
M, getting irritated: She ripped my shirt to shreds. She owed me one. It’s like living with a damned cat. freezes Oh shit…
F: laughs hysterically
On another note, in pouring through all of Sera’s asks, I found this little gem:
Okay, N I can easily see at a ball. I can see A there, despite them not wanting to be there. F would cause untold amounts of trouble. But M??? Being forced to dress up and, gods forbid, act as a date to the MC? OMG, that’d be hilarious.
I think it’s notable that they ask permission to run some tests on the MC. I would think if they are into evil science experiments they’d just force the MC into it. I also think that when you have people as powerful as supernaturals you can go one of two ways in order to regulate things. The agency has seemingly decided to go to the ‘you attract more flies with honey route’.
Still you can sense the loneliness in each of them when the interact with the MC as @EvilChani pointed out. It makes want to hug all of them and love them.
Yes, all the point are, in my opinion, quite spot on. I was just pointing out that whatever happened to M, I don’t think it was the Agency being ruthless or cruel to them, you know?
Also, edit to say. Almost less than 600 messages for the grand end of this thread
I really like that Sera didn’t go the “evil, shady government Agency” route. It’s the easy, obvious choice, but the way she presented them–as people who genuinely want to make the world a better, safer place for everybody, even if some of their methods are flawed–is really nice. I don’t want to bring politics into this, but the world right now is really big and messed up and pretty scary. That Wayhaven creates a world full of people that want to make it better is nice.
I that @Seraphinite has really captured a spirit of fantasy akin to Tolkien: ordinary people rising up in extraordinary situations, not for glory, but to make things right. Doing things out of love rather than a sense of obligation. The vampires and Rebecca, regardless of what some of them say, care about what they do, or they wouldn’t do it.
I’m used to liking the concept of a story, but finding the execution lacking. Wayhaven doesn’t make me feel like that. It’s a fun piece of escapism and a brilliant bit of writing. There’s a lot we don’t know about the characters or the world, but we love it anyway.
I’ll get off my soapbox now, because that’s a lot more than I intended to say.
I have to agree. I love conspiracies and such but at times, I just want to be relax knowing the government is behind our back for once! ( unlike in real life but still we have to be part of the change whether the government is moving or not. )
Also, I think there are enough titles to cover corrupt government systems like Fallen Hero and Choice of Rebels. XD
Err…honestly i don’t think it is a good idea to be too “relax” and allow the government to watch our back too long, i agree there wasn’t any indication of an “evil” government …Yet, but we still never know who is at the puppet master at the top of the Agency Hierarchy … Even if the current top government is the “good” person, we won’t know when will be the change of government, and thus the change of policy
In Unnatural series especially the sequel, we also sort of have a “Good” government agency … well and to be fair to the “shady” government in Fallen Hero, we still aren’t sure who is at the Right or Wrong… perhaps majority of common folks there actually support the government as the “Good” persons ? so far we are only referring things based on our own perspective in Fallen Hero
What I meant is in my own person, not my MCs themselves. XD I do know that there is someone who provided the DMB to Murphy from the inside so my MCs will still have to keep their guard up. But it is nice to know that Sera will not go to the government conspiracy route. =)
To add, it’s nice to think that the Agency is super nice and cooperative and all that, but it’s very likely that there are still politics that come into play, and that not everything is all “roses.” I’ll be disappointed if the detective doesn’t come into some kind of conflict with the Agency (or at least the option to).
Agreed; I assumed that is what happened. Also the fact that in the end Rebecca and UB jump on the fact that supernaturals are going to target the MC… one said the news is too big to keep, but in the end it’s still a leak(s) at best without entertaining the mole idea more. Maybe I am too cynical, haha, but I think that while the Agency seems benevolent overall, that doesn’t mean there can’t be suspect/disgruntled individuals within.
But that is not a guarantee right ? I don’t know Sera but is she a person who likes surprise ??
What if , for some reason … we will be banish from the Agency and must go on rogue ? And the agency task Unit Bravo to hunt us instead ? and only 2 of the agents with highest relationship stat stay with us , trying to protect us while 2 others join the hunt ?? Do you envision such dramatic conflict in the future ??
As of current stat for me, it will be Natalie and Farah who support me Vs Ava and Morgan…
So Natalie vs Ava (mostly Ava will win)
Farah Vs Morgan ( i think Farah has a chance)
But i Farah vs Ava next ? I am DOOM !!!
