Yeah, he can only scratch you if you fight him off successfully.

There’s an exhaustion check. If you pass, you don’t get bit. You have to make very specific choices, though.

You need to choose the correct option that best suited your strengths. XD

Ah, I see it now.

I never play to Charlotte’s strengths for RP purposes–it’s her first major encounter with the supernatural and she just survived what is essentially blood doping, so I figure she can be forgiven for always, always getting bit in the neck (that and I love me some angst omg u don’t even knowwwwwww).

And I also figured out what was confusing me in the code. I was confusing the * else text for “no bite” (which isn’t explicitly labeled like that) with the text for * bite = “wrist” because they both mention blood on your arm, and yeahhhh.

Ah, and thanks for the replies everyone!

In that case GIMME THE DRAMA SERA I’M READY FOR THAT RO CAN TELL IF YOU GOT BITTEN DRAMA

@Meira_Litch you’re right I’m totally gonna play Charlotte as though she felt violated. And if possible, I’m planning on her being more unconsciously wary of supernaturals, perhaps even of her RO (FOR MAXIMUM ANGST) especially in stark contrast to her original positive and accepting reaction to supernaturals:
“Oh shit! Does this mean Jedi?? I knew it! Nothing added up, and vampires explains everything!”

hbu? How are you guys going to play your Detective’s, er, reactions in Book Two?

I think it’s more dramatic to get bitten, so I let it happen. I also have some of my detectives escape from Murphy while others fail to. That’s also for drama reasons.

Moreover, I have a couple playthroughs set up where Murphy gets away.

Because I don’t feel the need for perfect runs in this game. I think it will be exciting to change it up, and I am looking forward to seeing the differences down the line.

skdljslkjsaldkj You’re giving me ideas…

Now I’m thinking my canon N and F playthroughs should have Murphy caught, giving a false sense of security, while my A and M playthroughs should have Murphy escape, making both feel uneasy throughout the romance.
Ooh! And what if my N and A playthroughs have Charlotte bitten in the neck, and my F and M playthroughs bitten in the wrist…
Gosh, so many possibilities…

I want sweet revenge against him even more. When he escapes the agency/returns from hiding, I’ll power up my RO, RO beats the living shit out of him and then - glorious moment! - MC runs up to downed Murphy and kicks him in the nuts a couple of times: “Who’s the little guinea piggy now, you sucker?”

Yes, I don’t like him that much :stuck_out_tongue:

You guuuuys, now I gotta do everyone’s playthroughs again to mix things up!

JK, I do think that’ll be more fun. Just gotta figure out how I wanna do my “canon” runs.

As a side note. Just did the bar scene with A’s route for the first time… Soooooo Cute :two_hearts:

Awesome! It’s fun to vary things up. Because of the way Sera has created this game, I feel like there is no wrong way. So why not have runs that don’t end “perfectly?”

@Mewsly Dooo eeet! We’ve got plenty of time before Book 2.

Sera mentions that she is not heavy writer on the darker topics (trauma and such) but she did mention she will touch on the subject on some point.

Wayhaven will always be more action based than psychological

Then there’s still hope. A or M annihilating Murphy in close combat is the best therapy one can get. NB - don’t forget the popcorn

Hmm interesting, can someone help me get to a non bitten ending with 70 chr, 50 sci, 45 knowledge?

YOOOOOOOO

GUYS

If the biting claiming thing is true and the blood Murphy injects the MC was his own that’s a… concerning combination… :confounded:

These choices should lead to a non-bitten ending:

Spoilers Under Cut
  1. Look for something to loosen the bonds when you’re tied up (need science or deduction of 45 or better).
  2. When you’re making you’re way down the hall and you have the choice to go on or give up, give up.
  3. When UB is fighting Murphy, tend to your wounds.

This ensures you have enough energy to either dodge him or shove him away.

Alternatively, you can “observe the fight for advantages,” with either a combat or deduction score of 55 or better.

With your stats, I suggest the first route.

I think you need to the option for talk him down.

How much is your combat?

Not necessarily–it might not be in the vampire’s blood but something in their saliva or about their fangs? They might have some kind of numbing venom that then gets in their victim’s blood and “taints” it that wouldn’t be in the vampire’s blood proper–they have the pheromones to get their victim to hold still but when something hurts the body kind of naturally pulls away, so it could be to counteract that? Although I’m pretty sure it hurts when Murphy bites you, so might be off the mark …

And if nothing else it’s possible that the feeding/biting to claim thing can be overwritten. It isn’t just that the person got bitten, but who bit them most often or most recently. Could be the catalyst for an RO biting scene …

I’m willing to bet vampire’s have a ramped-up version of opiorphine in their saliva.

Well, it’s less that his blood is what taints the MC that worries me and more the fact that his blood is in the MC and then on top of that he bites them. Just how much of the MC is Murphy now? And I can’t imagine the RO really liking the idea of biting the MC with Murphy’s blood in them (least of all M who was so bothered by his smell alone that they wouldn’t go into the lab).

Also the numbing thing might be true but doesn’t work on the MC. It was pointed out that Garret didn’t struggle at all when Murphy bit him. Pheromones or not I would think a bite to the neck would elicit SOME responce

I wonder if the detective is immune to other painkillers or has a tolerance against them, assuming vampires do use oriorphine.
