The Ultimate Magic Student (WIP) (168K) (+11K 06/01)

Who knows. It could even be a self insert fan fiction for all we know.

I have to say, the story has surpassed my expectations so far. My character feels like a part of the typical Anime Trio from the get-go.

Well it’s true death is good motivator but still knowing such kinda ruin it like persona 3 was ruined for me.

Ehh I do play the update I know the interaction so far it just I am much prefer to let the “main character” alone for now.

I played the game again and realized that even though I’m completely male, it’s possible to wear a skirt and wear makeup, and with that I came up with a very strange idea, but one that would make sense I think:
As we are dealing with a super clichéd world, supposedly, if my character is a man and wears feminine clothes and things (Femboy style), Shouldn’t the protagonist be super confused thinking the MC is a woman? So there would be that classic revelation scene, or at least a comedy scene

Of course, this might not be a good idea, but since it’s possible to make a male MC with a female appearance, I came up with this idea hehe

Things like this are ignored in most games like this. Mostly so no one is offended or cause upset. Still something should be said like the characters supporting the MCs decision

Maybe, but it would be very strange to ignore this possible cliché, even using several others that can cause discomfort, such as the Echii
And although I’m perhaps too hopeful, I trust that this community won’t just get offended by something so small

Hi, everyone!

Pin on profile pictures ☆彡

Sorry for the delay, but I finally added the polls to the main post for you to give feedback about the demo! I’ve divided them into feedback, so you can share your opinions on the demo so far, and decisions, so you can show me the most popular choices.

Here:

Oh, and I’m reaching out to artists to create some drawings! Environments, characters, scenes, etc. - I think it would be really cool to have some illustrations. (It would also be interesting to give some drawings to Patreons!)

We’re exploring what would be cool and what wouldn’t, and testing some styles and designs - a simple anime? A super stylized anime? Cute anime? Maybe something not so anime-like? Not sure, let’s find out! As far as I know, I might end up hiring several artists with different styles xD

Oh, of course, I also want to consider your opinions. I noticed that some people don’t like when characters have images, or any images at all! Please, share your thoughts on this!

And I would like to thank all the support on Patreon, after all, it is because of it that I can even consider paying for drawings!

I mean, I can make one

Well, knowing that this game is heavily inspired by The Novel’s Extra, I kind of wanted some kind of link between them… So, yeah, let’s say that Ellen is the Rachel of this universe… Haha, but if that makes you less interested in her, that’s okay, later on, you’ll see that they are only similar in the basic idea!

Loved your feedback btw! I love when they are this detailed like this, thank you! :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

I’m sorry :frowning: I ended up leaving the MC’s personality a bit vague in several scenes, mainly because there were so many that I didn’t want to think about adding so many personality variations to each of them… BUT I hope I can improve this aspect with future updates!

I mean, I can also see about adding some options at what we already have - I’ve already done this a few times with some of your requests, so feel free to give a suggestion or two, as long as it’s not too much work, I can add it!

Wacth out for spoilers in this section! (For both this demo and Persona 3 [Yep you read it right])

I didn’t expect the quest to receive negative feedback, but it’s good that you mentioned it and gave me a new perspective.

As some said, the purpose of the quest telling you that you’re going to die is to motivate the MC to become strong. Actually, just explaining from my point of view as the author, that’s the main reason for the quest’s existence.

When planning the original anime story, I had to stop and think, “why should the MC of the game follow the main plot? What if they don’t want to become strong? What if they decides not to go to classes anymore? What if…?”

The purpose of the game is for you, the player, to guide your character in a way that he becomes strong and experiences (or changes) the anime’s story - what you, the player, want, doesn’t need to be explained, but I believe the character theyself should have their reasons and goals. It would make less sense if they didn’t, I think.

The number of days is there to create anticipation and anxiety as well. You will control your character every day throughout the entire game year, so it will take a while to reach the “season finale.” The idea is that with each passing day, as you train, you become more expectant of what will happen. And of course, you will certainly have the chance to make your character deduce and investigate what exactly might cause their death.

I think it’s different from Persona 3 (spoiler alert!) ------ where you can’t avoid the protagonist’s death, and is the ending of his story. But in this book, if you don’t avoid your death, it’s game over when it shouldn’t, so that’s precisely why you will want to train to avoid it.------(spoiler alert!)

But still, I understand how you didn’t think it was a good idea to be so “in your face” about it. Maybe I’ll change the way the quest is presented.

I find it very funny how people who want to romance Kawabata and/or Arai are starting to create a passive rivalry with Usui and Fukushima respectively xD

Option two!!!

Yes, he will be! In fact, all ROs can be romanced by all genders. I even thought about locking some behind sexuality, but honestly, this is one of the few aspects I don’t want to mirror reality. Everyone is bi, and that’s it! (Some don’t know it yet, but they are! Imagine your character being the one who makes them realize?)

I love Usui! :stuck_out_tongue: If you take the right path with her, you will definitely witness many good scenes with her!

Yes, it’s quite complicated. Although interaction would be cool, I’ve seen some people’s opinions that indicate it might end up being not something good. Maybe I should get help from people who understand the subject better to write such a scene - but for now, I prefer to keep it vague.

LGBT representation is something I really want to include in my game in various ways, but I’m inexperienced in implementing it properly :face_with_spiral_eyes:

just read the updated demo, and it was really worth the wait! :] there’s a bunch of charm within what’s playable now, even though it’s probably only a fraction of what you have planned for us.

here’s something weird I found while playing:

this section with usui repeats twice.

aside from that, thank you for your hard work! I’m excited to see what comes next!

(P.S, the moment I get a chance to go on a villain arc, the first person I’m taking revenge on is the crook hammer stand lady who scammed me out of my money. I had to gain sentience for that money, lady. that’s pretty difficult, if I do say so myself.)

Wow, how did I let it pass revision? :flushed: Well, fixed right now! (By the way, I forgot to mention that I’ve already corrected all the errors you all have sent so far!)

Yeah I would too…

Wait you can meet Hiromi ?How does one that lol.

I get it, and a little disappointing I admit, I wanted to create a Femboy that was recognizable as a Femboy, but it’s okay if you think it’s risky and because it probably really is

Thanks for considering anyway ^^

According to the poll you can convince Hiroko to attend the festival with you. How do you achieve that? Because I tried every dialogue option with her and they all led to her running away?

If I remember who Hiromi is right, then I met her by going with the Hero to the principal’s office and sitting in on his conversation with principal.

Well if player want their male character look like Kabuki actor I guess it’s fine to use make up, beside this is fictional world who can say if in another universe/planet human is majority bi or it’s normal for male to use skirt, however such scene probably complicated the writing process which if Author willing to tackle is entirely up to author, Author can make MC even have both gender it’s all depend on the author choice and how far they willing to go.

( For reference can try reading WIP - Oblivion for hermaphrodite character might also give some insight to femboy thingy )

Well I suppose that will work as well to make it less blunt, personally I do understand what at stake here this world is like the game Kenshi, MC is not the protagonist, in fact MC is not someone important, now the deal here is how to rectify that, Quest page should play both side it’s should dangle juicy reward to good character to do naughty things and encourage the evil character to be good once in a while, which make sense if character is too good for their own good they might end up weaker, if character is too evil they become the menace. The purpose here is to push the limit on how far player willing to go, what player would give for the reward or influence interaction like making shy/introvert character willing to go bit more extrovert and vice versa.

For example:

For introvert to go interact with other character :
Quest:
Make friend with 2 character.

Reward : Bond of friendship ( +2 all stats, mana pool + 100 chance for rare accessories )

For good character doing naughty stuff :
Quest:
Steal exam answer sheet.

Reward : Sneaky ( +5 intelligent, will pass the test chance for rare scroll )

For evil character :
Quest: help class win the competition

Reward: all companion relation + 10, potential high grade accessory depend on rank.

I just played the game for the first time, and I really liked it! But based on the dorm poll, I think the demo might have stopped before it was supposed to? I got to the System notification that said I had to survive the final day of the semester and then the “end of the demo” page came up.

Please don’t. A lot of us think it is perfect for or perfectly in tune with the tropes of the genre.

Obviously it’s up to you in the end, but I don’t think you should. The “in your face” nature of the quest is what really sold it for me.

I’m very glad to hear it, although I do feel that the “straight until I met you” trope is a little over-saturated, so hopefully that doesn’t affect too many characters.

Well, hopefully those scenes include her realising she was the one who crashed into us, and apologising and repaying us for the meal we bought her… (And speaking of that, it would be nice to be able to choose to pay specifically so that Kazuki doesn’t have to, or maybe to offer to split the cost with him. After all, she did crash into both of us, so it’s only fair that we both pay.)

Explicit representation (i.e. calling attention to things like this) can be very good if it’s handled well, but it can also be very hard to do well, while implicit representation (i.e. just having the characters accepted without going into any details) is generally very easy to do, but can feel a little hollow. Either way, it’s good that you’re thinking about this, and I definitely recommend talking to a lot of people about it.
Good luck with the game!

Have to have your character not be male and choose the non-flirty dialogue :no_mouth:

No matter what you say as a male she assumes you’re trying to “rizz her up”, as the kids say these days, and books it
