People did that with Shadow Society, too. While I love TWC a lot, it’s weird that it’s being used as a comparison point for games that aren’t trying to go for the same thing. One of TWC’s main selling points is ‘define and refine your main character’, while TSSW’s main character already came way more pre-defined than the detective in TWC was. I’m guessing it’s because it’s the first truly popular Hosted Game that focused on romance content?
I think that may be part of it. I think the other part is that TWC was the first HG that followed a VN/otome type layout, since playing it feels a great deal like playing a VN without the visuals. Both TSS and TSSW have that same feel (and are also focused more on romances, like otomes are), so everyone is piling on them for not doing it the same way TWC did it, which isn’t fair, in my opinion.
Nor is it fair to accuse the authors of “copying” the LIs, which I’ve seen happen on the TSS board. Personally, I like having more options for games with this kind of feel, but if everyone is bashing on them and comparing them to TWC, then no one will want to make more of them. And that would be a shame.
Not a good enough reason. And even if it were, from where I’m sitting comparing them hurt more then do good. You do all 3 stories a disservice comparing them like that. You do a disservice to the author doing that.
Let them stand as a beacon on their own, for what they are. Enjoy them and love them for what they offer you. Don’t point finger ‘Oh I liked that in this one, and that one did it better’’. Just enjoy it for what it is!
There are others games that have romances, no?
Shrug we don’t need a copy paste of another game. I like they are all different. I don’t want anything from Wayhaven in this story. I don’t want anything from this story to be copyed in the Shadow Society. They are all unique in their own merit. They are all fun for their own reasons.
So…that out lol
Do you think we will get Mr fang Soul stone in the end? . Cose when it said he had the ‘‘intuition Soul Stone’’ i was like…uh…we have the gift…shouldn’t that be our soul stone hummm???
Also…who accepted the Torc gift? come on, the Snake God…sexy Snake lol
I accepted the thing on my first run! I already had a lot more pragmatism than intuition anyway and it was the practical solution so I was like, yeah, my MC would totally do that lol.
Seem like the cost is too much though. I mean, the way it describe your gift in that scene ‘‘If it bloom you can see the thread of time and change nation’’ and I was like OMG! I’m a dreaaaaaaaaamerrrrrrr…Flashback of dreamer from DA2…SO that Snake is a Pride demon! I betcha!
I did it to see what it felt like. But don’t think it’s a good choice down the line.
NGL it probably wasn’t.
I liked making that choice a lot, tho! It was disastrous, and hopefully will have consequences down the line. I love the idea of the MC being faced with calamities that they could’ve prevented if only they hadn’t let go of their gift, but they had let go of it because they chose the tangible and the immediate solution before the longterm. It’s an interesting thing, narratively!
Humm got feeling tell me we maybe able to reverse it later, somehow…
But something tell me, you’ll go ‘‘Nope! mah preciouse…I wanna see where it leaaad’’
Probably will indeed regret it later, but I just took it so Elly wouldn’t have to tbh
what make you think it would have ? Daelynn didn’t even know the darn thing could talk, and it belonged to her peoples. I highly doubt Elly would either hear it, or speak to it. The snake was interested in a trade. Maybe why it spoke, because you the mc had something it wanted.
I don’t know that it would have asked her to sacrifice anything herself, it’s just that in my playthrough where I didn’t take it, Elly picked it up instead and starting acting as weird and tunnel-visioned as the MC did when they accepted it and it freaked me out
Hummm…yeah I remember now. Ahh the guilt!!! the guilt!!
But side note: when you accept the snake offert, the torc stick to you. Don’t recall seeing (or reading) it was glued to her after she touch it. Maybe it spoke to her, or maybe her own Soul Stone flared on contact or something. Mr Fang did say something about ‘‘being weak after joining with one’’…so maybe thats why?
Haha exactly!
I thought it did but I might be remembering it wrong that’s a good point though, we don’t really know what kind of effect the torc would have on someone wielding a soul stone, whether they just become more susceptible to dragon magic or the torc strengthened the faint connection Elly felt to other soul stones or what…
Maybe the Torc is part of the Soul stone. Maybe there are Good soul stone with bad artifact like Torc, and bad Soul stone and Good artifact?
and when I say part…meaning, made by tha Gods. Like they made the Soul stones, and made artifacts (good and bad ones, cose it always fun) and peppered them on mortal and watched them chase the goodies…and stuff?
well whatever the Torc wanted, I’m like…’‘god huh? where the hell were you when insert here all 3 background…huh? Yeah, I’ll pass…’’ lol .
Oooh ya, like the gods made a bunch of corresponding artifacts to kind of like…complete or balance out the soul stones? Because having to trek into dangerous caves and kill damn dragons was too simple the gods do enjoy their fun! (if they’re anything like gods from most irl pantheons anyway…)
It would certainly explain why the torc bothered to give Elly the location of MC’s stone…
Haha oof big mood hard to trust gods who seldom seem to actually look out for you!
There is a line of text when you take the Torc that says it can’t be removed but even if it were to be the powers would stay with you or something to that effect, so you weren’t remembering wrong.
I personally can’t stomach taking to Torc and sacrificing my MCs intuition, especially when you get that scene with their intuition being this neglected child with a lot of potential. Your intuition flaring as the Torc kills it hurts me so bad, and proves it is worth so much more than the Torc
Does it get stuck to Elly as well though? I can’t remember
Haha ya it’s my favorite kind of choice - the kind that feels sort of wrong no matter which choice you make
And when they do, you are too busy making a mess in the world…(or drunk under a table…it was all that sweet sweet Ale fault I tell ya!) .
well tha Gods are knowns to be bipolére, benevolent and sadistic at the same time lol.
And dragons are hoarder by nature. So who know where the elf gotten that Torc from. Maybe they found it, maybe they worshipped the snake…(look at mah cup, Dahlynn…did you add poison to mah cup? hic…good girl…I’m resistant to lie and bullshit anyway)…
True. But there is also a line from Mr Fang, that say that the gift of the mc isn’t completely gone…so there is hope.
this is simply one of the best COG/HG i’ve ever played. i’m in love
Haha vaild point! How much does anyone really know about the artifacts? Even the elves?
Plus there’s also the line when you don’t take it where he says MC’s connection gets stronger to him over time, which makes taking the torc kind of feel like it might pay off? Like even though the connection isn’t completely severed, it prevents it from growing even stronger…or at least delays it for a while…
I think the reason the Torc asks for the MCs intuition is because it itself bestows intuition upon its bearer. Dae says that the elder who wore it could know when things would happen and where things were. This sounds like a powered up version of the MCs intuition. I think if the MCs intuition were strong enough it could mimic the abilities of the Torc in the sense that the MC would have equal capability over controlling the dream state as Manerkol.
