There’s as much RO potential in her as there is in The Vampire King. Like I’m not really understanding the disconnect that’s happening here when it comes to comparison of these two.
The only difference between the two characters is the author just flat out not giving an option to date them. I had to run another play through to see if there was just something I was missing in the VK route, but nope, still mentally tortures you, still removes consent, still forces the “bond” between the two of you. Only in the VK route you have the option of just accepting that it’s happening. You can choose to pine after someone who’s opening meeting with you is torture.
The Seeker forces a kiss on you, VK completely invades your mind and puppets you there and is attempting to do it in meat space as well.
Sorry, I wasn’t clear enough:
I personally don’t see any potential in her. It’s a matter of taste, and she is not to mine.
To me, personally there’s a lot of difference between them, but it’s in the little nuances that make them who they are, and in how the narrative describes them, not that her behaviour is worse than his.
Could she be given a satisfactory romance arc in the future? Yes, because you can pretty much write that for any character. But I don’t think I would be interested.
But I am not interested in getting into shipping wars, and as I said, peace be with those who do see her as an interesting RO.
You might have friendmance points with them! That’s any option that starts off friendly but goes on to say “and ignore the tightening of my chest” or “Only friends” or something to that effect. What did your relationship stats say when you got to that point? I’m sure you had friend points, which is a no-go ![]()
She kinda remind me of Bodhi, so that would make the Vampire dude Irenicus. Wonder if the author took her inspiration from there
Really? It has been some years since I last played BGII, but I don’t find them particularly similar. Except in the general antagonistic this-person-might-eat-me-for-lunch sense.
EDIT: it might be because Mornie didn’t really strike me as a leader.
and Bodhi wasn’t a leader . yeah, sure. She had her catacombs and her lackey.
But the similarities, was the whole ''Vampire ask her ‘‘Go hurt one of them!’’ and she goes ‘‘Lets play…forget mission, time for fun!’’ lol.
Even thought she knew the risk and the punishement, she just couldn’t help herself lol
Didn’t say they were exactly the same, more like kinda remind me of Bodhi. Though bodhi would be scarier and stronger then her. Since she had her own cult and everything, where Maurin was more like a lackey.
Oh, yeah! I can see what you mean. They definitely both have that chaotic, ruled-by-bloodlust-and-their instincts thing going on.
Like hunting dogs who forget their training, and starts chomping down on the prey the moment they taste blood.
Yeah! thats where I though they were similar. I mean Bodhi kinda did the same on the account of ‘‘irenicus wasn’t fun at all’’ and make you run her gauntlet of horror. Which was so risky! lol
But it make for interesting characters thought. One broody vilain is enough for an audiance. We need the fun fun one too lol
@MissRagdoll I think you can miss up to 2 romance points with the boys and still get enough points for the romance to trigger. I’m not entirely sure, but I do believe it’s doable. No more than 2, however. So you could get your moments with Morkai as well. But the crux of the matter here is that I want there to be a natural buld-up to the romances. I could even argue that this is even more important to Straasa than it is to Morkai because he takes longer to allow himself to get close. So this is the reason why there are at least 6 points necessary.
@snowgoose @OddCatGuy Oh, yes, the break-ups. If you’re trying to romance Straasa or Morkai but have too low influence with their best friend, they will break things off with you! Also, if you’ve been flirting with both of them and are on the poly path but then decide to only go for one… Yeah, they don’t like that. Same with Dae. If you are on her path but then don’t commit in Ch6, she will NOT be happy.
@Ferosify Morkai’s sword kinda looks like Aragorn’s ranger sword, and yeah, it’s harder to yield, but when done right, it has devastating effects. And magic can do various things that will be explored further in the next games! It’s based on DnD, but also has taken inspirations from Dragon Age, Forgotten Realms, lots of things. Basically, if I like something, there’s a 95% I will put it in my own world
And thank you for the kind words, they’re much appreciated! I’m glad you enjoyed the story on its own merit!
@Vox The dual bladed sword is actually exactly what you recommended, I really liked that idea! So yeah, it looks exactly like that! And omg, you got the MD rejection scene… It absolutely counts, and hahaha, I’m glad you thought it was brutal, that was the intention
@ADolphin It’s a Darh Maul kinda thing
And anything could happen combat-wise
Also, yiiiiiis, another Manerkol fan
@LeBaloo @snowgoose There are two endings, yes, and the game has stat-based variations, yes, also fail scenes in various combat situations and the like.
@Claymore Thank you so much! It’s good to see Dae get love! And yeah, although I do like my smut, what really gets me is the romantic bonding. So I will always provide the option for both!
Again, thanks you, and I hope you’ll enjoy the next games too!
@Treidis The only thing I can think of is that you might have gotten friendmance points like Vox said. can you show us a screenshot of the relationships tab?
that’s my relationship stats
i know that i should not have any flirtmance or friendmace pointsso i don’t understand why it is happening :c
It’s a long shot, but during Chapter Two, did you make sure to set your character’s sexuality as interested in men?
Men or bi, both work.
Hmm, the Ranger sword looks more like a standard longsword to be honest, that kind of proportions and blade profile. Unless of course Morkai’s sword is just very long ![]()
You’re welcome
! The story is honestly amazing!
Just on a side note, if you’re interested in some really cool and even downright weird weaponry, just have a look at ancient Chinese weapons. They weaponised like everything! Weaponised rakes, forks, spades, brushes (like those for writing), walking sticks… One instance I think I saw a form using benches! But hey, specialised weapons are specialised. (though the blunt sword is kinda cool, just a heavy metal rod with a guard XD)
Anyway sorry for that ramble
. What can I say? Cool weapons are cool.
As both a lover of mage build, and of Final Fantasy IX, I love the dual bladed sword!!!
I’ll forever imagine it looking as Zidane’s weapon

Problem solved
I just didn’t choose the right option when I first met with Morkai because I didn’t notice it in the manual
Thanks for your help
Crazy Lace Agate, the Fork of Hysteria.
The scene was such a shock for me because I wasn’t expecting my flakiness to have any real in-world consequences
It definitely hit the mark.
I haven’t discovered all of the possible soul stone weapons; can you get an axe for any of the different personality stats? It would be cool for my MC to be able to run into battle like a true viking!
IIRC, those are the weapons:
Persuasion: Whip or Rapier.
Wit: Throwing Knives or Double Daggers.
Combat: Bow or Sword.
Magic: Staff or Double-Edge Sword
Aw, bummer. Those are some pretty cool choices though
I have been debating whether I should write this review or not for a while now, but here goes. I loved the romance content in this game. The characters are well-rounded and interesting and stole my heart, all in their own ways, and I love that poly romances are both an option and as well-written as they are. Even Eledwen, who I didn’t really like based on the tumblr asks pre-release, has a special place in my heart now that I’ve actually seen her in game.
Unfortunately, the romance alone does not manage to carry the rest of the game for me. There’s been plenty of talk about the MC being weak already but that isn’t something I take issue with. It isn’t always fun, but I can understand the author’s intent and there are certainly moments for the MC to shine. What I do take issue with is, first, an overall lacking feeling of agency and second, the ending.
Let’s start with the ending. While it is clearly a cliffhanger, to me it just felt like an anti-climax. After all the build-up to the MC getting their soulstone and being unable to do anything to help as our companions fought a rather important battle, which was rather harrowing cause damn, I love them all and I want them to be safe, it ends in… nothing. The narrative decides our character loses to the soulstone, after the narrative decided they were going to fight it in the first place (and perhaps I would have made the same choice in character! and I understand the very real limitations of writing a game with this many branching choices, but it still breaks my immersion to have that important a choice made for me), and then the book just. Ends. With nothing resolved, nothing achieved, and only questions left for the next book resolve. This felt rather unsatisfying to me, and the disappointment of having seemingly achieved nothing after the emotional struggle did honestly rather ruin my investment in the plot as a whole.
This feeds into my second point: A lack of agency. While there are many choices revolving around the difference romance routes and how to interact with your respective LIs, which is excellent and an impressive amount of variation, I rarely felt like I had any real influence on the plot. There were a number of conversations where important lore was revealed or discussed, conversations which went on for multiple pages, yet we were mostly reduced to an observer with our reactions and opinions prescribed to us by the narrative. While they were all small instances, the annoyances added up over the course of the game and they were only magnified by the ending. While I understand there are only so many options you can offer as an author, I would have appreciated more chances to even just be able to choose how we feel or mentally react to some revelation or the other.
As it stands now, since the character has a rather strong voice as well, in narrative moments where there were multiple pages of only text and no choices I felt like I was just along for the ride and watching the story play out like the author intended it, rather than actually playing a character in the world and being able to influence said world. On my multiple replays to get the secret RO’s route, before I’d seen the guide, I noticed there were quite a number of places where I was able to click through for quite a stretch with no choices in sight. Out of curiousity, and because I have way too much time on my hand, I tallied the number of pages that end in a choice vs the number of pages that only end in a next page button then compared it to The Wayhaven Chronicles, as it’s another game I’ve replayed many times yet I’ve never had this same feeling there.
The tally came out to 113 choices vs 254 non-choices for TSSW, while The Wayhaven Chronicles added up to 230 choices vs 217 non-choices. This is, of course, by no means a scientific experiment, but to me it validated how I had felt more like an observer than a player especially during the more plot-heavy stretches of The Soul Stone War. While we were engaged with the characters, I never truly felt like we had a meaningful influence on the world around us, as the plot would continue on its predestined rails regardless.
Which, to me, describes the game in summary. It is a fun romp, with delightful and engaging characters and wonderfully written romances, but those bright spots fail to carry the lackluster rest of the game. I will have to see if the demo for the second game manages to impress me to consider buying it, after the disappointment that was this less-interactive-than-hoped interactive novel.
