Hmmm. Maybe there was something at the end of year 16 that prevented it from going on. I’ll check it out. Just once I’d like an update to be workable the first day I put it out!
The day this happens is the day you regret because if it does happen that means there are serious bugs lurking … trust me… it is much better to find them now than later
I am all for letting my daughter be her own person and making “most” of her own decisions, but if she passes up her chance at being a world class gymnast again I’m going to be T’d off.
Yeah the bug is quite mandatory to take a look at. The rest of the parts are fine (The driving test for some reason is not possible to pass with the Buick. I’m guessing you changed something there. A few other tidbits also occurred and having them solved makes this CYOA better and better) but one issue can lead to a whole lot of problems. Especially with coding. I am sorry if this text is repetitive though. Please forgive me.
Well, nothing should have made the Buick driving test impossible. I added an achievement in there I think, perhaps something got screwed at that point. However, I should point out that the driving test (and the standardized test in this update y’all can’t see yet) do have an element of randomness to them. Your chances are positively or negatively impacted by preparation or lack thereof, but you can do the same thing two times and still potentially get different results.
It’s obviously choice scripts bias against Buick’s automobiles. This wouldn’t be happening if it was their rival Carvana
Or even a Ford.
Kidding
Not sure if this one’s been caught yet, but when picking my kid’s electives for high school it wound up repeating the page:
Edit: My game tab refreshed overnight, and when I loaded my save the doubled page didn’t happen, so I don’t know if this will reproduce.
Okay! The issue was that I kept uploading all the files at once and didn’t notice the 20 file limit on Dashingdon. So the code was solid, it just wasn’t present. Now everything should be good. I also fixed that doubling issue just reported for electives, and in playing through it I managed to pass the Buick driving test so it looks like that is working just fine. Phew! Enjoy the update.
Another great year. I liked how it starts with the car scene just as the previous year ended with the driver’s license. All the scenes fit well together, making this year seem to be about the kid’s future potential (the car, the job) and the fruition of the MC’s past actions (the mother/father’s day gift)-- the SAT scene alone shows the impact of your previous educational choices for the present and how they’ll still affect the kid’s future. I liked how the jobs are influenced by the kid’s interests, and how the kid’s current job and skills affect their mother/father’s day present.
Typos
It definitely remains an issue that Joshua lacks any kind of wheels of his own, but fortunately he remains within waling distance of most things, and can use public transportation to fill in gaps as needed.
“waling” should be “walking”.
So he only seldom borrows your vehicle at all, which definitely makes you glad you didn’t drop money on a second car to promptly sit around unused.
You might want to change/remove the “definitely” in this sentence or the previous one – the repetition makes the paragraph sound awkward.
It’s not exactly a shock what kind of car $!{aname} has in mind. as the two of you look online at some available options in your area.
Remove the period after “mind”.
if (brain > 58)
!{aname} is the one who thinks of a proper position for {ahim}. “I could become a tutor! There’s people in my class or underclassmen who are way behind where I am right now in a lot of subjects. I bet they’d pay to catch up a bit.”
It looks like there should be a *goto after this, or else the next paragraph will be about Greaseburger.
#I rip it open; $!{aname} would do the same thing in my shoes, right?
It seems like choosing this option leads to the same results as the others, which causes the kid to suddenly appear without any mention of them arriving or how the MC opened the envelope without them.
$!{ahe} nods, resolute. "“I will.”
Remove one of the quotation marks before “I”.
You might want to mention the SAT score range (and what the average is) before the envelope is opened for those not in the US and since they changed the scoring a few years ago.
Also, I was surprised when I first saw that the kid got an average score, since I thought the education stat was pretty high – I even went into the stat page to check… and when I returned to the game, suddenly the score changed to 910. I’ll admit I then shamelessly went back to the stat screen so I could get the high score result.
Looking forward to year 17. Will that be the last year?
What’s the highest SAT score your kiddy have managed to get?
Mein Hustler, I believe I may have found a bit of a problem
And this
It seems to be that going to the stats screen and back repetitively changes the SAT score. Unless this is a tester thing, this is quite a big cheese.
Is this the randomness you were stating earlier?
Ahh I missed an update!
Does anyone know how high the atletic stat has to be for your child to make the team I can’t seem to make the basketball team or the football team with 56% athletic stat
If the percentage check is similar to getting the moonshot achievement (quite an assumption), then I think it has to be above 60
Great update. So bittersweet to see the kid growing up though, haha. But yeah like some people are saying the SAT’s scores are buggy, you get a score but if you go to your stat screen and back it changes it, and sometimes you get a different score than you got before the first around if you replay, even though I did the same options I did before
This is so odd. I have used the dieroller numerous times both in this story and NPT without ever hearing of the stat page causing it to reroll. I cannot imagine what is different here, but I will poke at it.
I pushed mine, and he pulled a 1410. I wish I’d done that well…
Yep, there’s a low, medium and high score, all of which were already reported on here (910, 1090 and 1410). I also did not actually notch a number as high as the high one here in real life, though I did have a friend who got a 1420 if memory serves.
As for the basketball team, I think this is one of those number tweaks I will focus on as the actual writing winds down. It’s just easier to go over 60 in Education than it is to get under 40 for Athletics, and I need to either change that or change the checks to make it reflect this.
@hustlertwo
In year 16.
Your child recently received their driver’s license after no small amount of drama,
The bolded word should be ${ahis}
Edit
Jennifer lifts her long arms. “Yep, babies tend to grow up at some point.” She’s demeanor is a bit surly, which surprises you.
The bolded word should be: Her
The cause is this code: $!{ahe}'s
demeanor is a bit surly
Change the code to: {ahis}
@hustlertwo, are you planning to do beta testing this summer? I haven’t had time to be a part of this thread, but I am very interested in your project and would love to help test when the time comes.
