Wow. For a game with one unfinished chapter, this sure has sparked a lot of discussion.
Was looking through the notes, and is that Wick Sable I see as your picture for Mr. Finn? Heheh, I see your game.

Yes, it’s all gotten a bit… metaphysical…
I just googled the name and found an adorable little kitty-cat, so I can say with some small confidence that I did not intentionally conflate the two characters.
Although… I have described him using jungle-cat terminology…
Did I base him on a kitty-cat?
Wick Sable is from a webcomic called Lackadaisy, which is about anthropomorphic cats trying to run a Prohibition-era speakeasy in St. Louis. Your pic for Mr. Finn is a humanized version of Wick. Source!
We’ll go ahead and slip that into the ever-growing ‘AU’ category that this game has spawned.
Ah, yes… The wildest of wild cards…
I can’t wait to meet this spectre… and see just what leverage he’s got on the Magister.
…I’m assuming you’re referring to the code/what have you necessary for Arinthas to operate the Forge properly to get his admin privileged Myrmidon?
…I’d assume it’s done very carefully. One wouldn’t want to get stepped on, after all.
I… can explain. Probably.
That means every single one of my cat puns is on completely on topic. And it also adds an interesting angle to my theoretical kitten Flash AU…
ninja’d
That would be broadly correct, yes.
Presumably some combination of semaphore flags and interpretive dance, although I suppose we’ll see what we see…
To be fair it’s got pretty interesting teaser scenes and an extensive world-building document posted too and the writing really draws people (well me at least) in. Not every WiP has that. Plus the setting is one of the most interesting and original ones around here.
Thanks and boy, whatever technomancer cobbled together that abomination must have been so crazy as to make our dear Arinthas look like the pinnacle of reason and sanity. (or at least that’s what my mage Flash will probably think when encountering it).
Flatterer…
Go on.
I think the first thing he’ll think is:
“Stack_Flow_Error.
0001101101110000111001001110011110101010000
I_have_no_mouth_but_I_must_scream.exe”
I’ll second the writing and… well, all of this, actually.
…I’ve got a lot to say about this WIP, but… I won’t say that. I will say that it pushes a whole bunch of my buttons and it’s done so in a combination that I never thought I’d experience.
“Hate. Let me tell you how much I’ve come to hate you since I began to live…”
The London Eye is now spinning too quickly guys. Tourists are starting to feel very poorly.
Go on.
I’m so glad I’ve found a place and people with which to share these Dangerous Visions…
I completely agree, on all points. Though I hope you’ll understand if I’m pretty much just skimming the thread waiting for an update so I can experience the world @Moreau is building by playing the game and not just by reading teaser scenes and OOC discussion.
I’m going to have to fourth this statement. Really, one of the really amazing things about this WIP is just how unique it is. It doesn’t feel like your typical sci-fi space opera, it’s so flushed out and intriguing and makes you wish you could really see the world it takes place in. And that’s where the writing is amazing because you really experience the world. It’s… kind of astounding.
…tourists, you say?
Well, I suppose it’s for a good cause…
It… may be a bit early to say, but so far I’m thoroughly enamored of every one of the named characters that we’ve met. I don’t see myself hating any of them, honestly. (And I mean straight up hating/getting annoyed with them to the point where I see no redeemable qualities. I can think of a few that I may end up loving to hate, though.) I am going to revel in getting to see these characters put through the wringer and back again because that’s the kind of thing that reveals just how deep they are and, honestly, I’m putting my money on all of 'em making the Mariana Trench look like a playground sandbox. Also, I’m looking forward to seeing their interactions with the MC and the growth of all of those relationships and all the little human moments - the ones where nothing all that ‘grand’ happen, but… they end up saying the most, I think.
What else…
Oh. Radjack’s such an awesome friggin’ name. It’s, uh… it’s rad, even.
The failed English major in me can’t wait to start digging deeper into the branches and seeing all the symbology and the myriad ways the themes will make themselves evident - whether it’s ‘bash one’s face in with a fish’ evident or ‘dig through and peel away the layers archaeology style’ evident. I’m also excited to inevitably look for things where there’s absolutely nothing to be seen because that’s how failed English majors do. Dude, that’s how rich I’m seeing this ending up (which makes me all the more excited for whatever you end up doing with the Chain because… ahhh. Can’t articulate.)
…and… so on. I’ll just stop here.
“…it’s too hot for me to come up with a legitimate Harlan Ellison referential retort, so this is all I got…”
Said the Ticktock Man
Nice! lol Guess it might depend a bit on whether or not genmodded hair/eye color does have connected abilities, but currently i’m actually leaning more toward having my Rebel!MC be a small/thin olive-skinned brown-haired yellow-eyed girl with the strength augmentation and past relationship with Radjack… i like the combination of strength + small build
but tbh i’m still a little torn between the other augmentations… tough choice. (guess there’s always second playthroughs
) Think I’ll be naming her Talia.
Noble!MC I’m thinking will be average build, pale, white-haired gray-eyed girl Odette with the consort augmentation and past relationship w Momo. And mage!MC- tall & lean build, dark skin, dark brown eyes, black haired androgyne Raijin, with consort augmentation & past relationship w Radjack.
@Moreau btw are you planning on including a save system in the demo version of the game eventually ? Bc I can imagine it would be a pain to have to input previous choices each time we do a different playthru haha.
Another thing I was thinking about, I might be biased because the consort specialization was the first choice i ever picked, but I can’t help feeling that consort has the most well written ballroom scene demonstration of their powers before the nobles. While the thinker and strength specialization scenes seem a bit lackluster in comparison. Again tho, I may be biased, it’s just that that option seems to have the most ‘wow’ factor. Could also just be because of the nature of the powers themselves, I suppose but idk I feel there could be something done to make all of the choices feel equal, you know?
So wait a minute, being android-ized makes you not only physically stronger no matter the specialization but also immortal? Eeek thats’ a WHOLE OTHER can of worms… oh boy.
Also…
The subject’s skin is dark and lustrous, the Forge’s probes catalogue the subject’s DNA for further study.
The subject’s skin is a rich dark brown, and the Forge’s probes catalogue the subject’s DNA for further study.
Maybe add some more differentiation between these two choices, I know they’re supposed to be different but I picture the same shade of skin when reading the two descriptions. (maybe instead try something like brown and lustrous vs rich dark brown etc)
I think all my versions of Flash will look the same, their differences are not in their appearance or gender, but the very different things they’ll become in the various branched stories. Then again I’m sure that I will eventually mix it up a little but that won’t be until at least the fourth playthrough (1 for each of the separate branches).
They all have their strengths and weaknesses, yes their introductions may be different but the fight, or should I say how easily Lord Flash, the Thinker (on the noble path) outwits and defeats that giant Turtle is epic and makes me feel awesome and powerful.
On the other hand the concubine has the best way of throwing Vitruvian off their tail on the rebel path. And I think it should (largely) stay that way, not everybody is equally awesome at all things, but I’m sure all the different character specialisations will have their moments to shine (and their moments where they’ll need to rely on somebody else to save their pretty ass) on all the different paths.
I def agree, i was just talking about the introductory scenes, i mean bending a sword and reciting chemical composition is all well and good but it just seems a little tame compared to dramatically throwing off your robe and turning into a different form. Guess im just wondering if its possible to work in a way to see more of MC’s personality and how it’s different in the other choices. for example consort MC is confused why everyones staring at them naked but iirc the others just do their thing and thats that
Mais oui, bien sûr! Such as Lady Calinas in naming myrmidon mine, Reverie.
Wishing on a star to discover baby Radjack was better known as Wiffleford.
I do believe our Courtesandroids recognize their assets. No confusion there.
You do so, dropping the cloak to the floor to once again stand naked before the crowd. There are mild gasps of surprise and scandal, but you feel no shame.
Indeed you are too young to understand the concept on anything more than a hypothetical level.
Ah, and still, after the demonstrations they do all shrink away from the crowd for their own uniquely flavored reasons…
Well… I suppose I’ll just have to work on updating the game then, won’t I?
Not to worry Sneaks, grab a chair, get Cooper to bring you a drink and standby. As soon as I have something, you’ll have something.
Message received. Character will not be renamed ‘Tim’.
I’m glad I put all these options in after all, it’s a nice way to help people sink into their characters.
That’s a feature that I’d like, but not one that I’m capable of creating right now. It will definitely be on the agenda.
That’s interesting, as people have declared their love for all the demonstration scenes, although there has been a strong bias towards the Thinker for the fight with Chauncey (The King Toise).
That scene with the transformation was probably the earliest of the three demonstration scenes, as I pretty much designed the transformations with that scene in mind. I might go back and look over them again in the near future.
It doesn’t necessarily increase your strength, but it does make you physically immortal, although Myrmidons tend to go a little nutty after the first 1000 years…
I’m going to majorly tweak those sections, as someone else mentioned this too.
How far we’ve come. I remember the days where it was ‘Mage path or nothing’.
Love it.
Scribbles notes.
Oh i didnt mean the fight scenes were weak, im talking about the demonstration for the nobles right after the transformation. the thinker fight on the noble path is actually my favorite!
I thought that was what you meant, and certainly the Fighter demonstration could use a bit of jazzing up, it’s a little obvious compared to the other two at the moment.
Chapter One for the Rebels first though, I’ve already allowed myself to get distracted too often…
