The Hunt: Demon Eyes [Moved to Twine]

Either the throwing knife or the twin daggers.

Ohh nice choice!
I actually did some research on how to properly use throwing knives (almost went down the youtube rabbit hole x.x) so that was already interesting to write for me
double daggers are one of my favorite aesthetics in video games <3 even though I always prefer to play distance weapons x)

We are a hunter so, ahem, CROSSBOW obviously.

I hope I can deliver according to expectations

Sorta wish we could use a spear. Just seems like the most logical melee weapon due to giving more range against what is most likely faster and stronger then you. Oh well the staff will do.

I did think about maybe adding a spear, but I wasn’t sure if it’s possible to make a somewhat stable foldable version of them
apparently it is possible x) so I will think about adding it in after all, or maybe give the option to manually add a spear tip to the staff

A sword could probably replace the lone dagger. I mean who carries a single dagger

Sure, if you can give me a realistic way on how to conceal a sword in public without giving up stability :joy:
But really, there is a reason swords are not used anymore outside of special events, they’re simply not handy and draw way too much attention; that’s not something a hunter would want.
Most of the weapons I mentioned you can hide close to your body without anyone noticing/ can fold up to be hidden. The only exception is the crossbow, but even those can, nowadays, be folded to some degree and hidden in a bag without looking suspicious.
So yeah it’s all about hiding in plain sight

Aaand they would kind of destroy the modern aesthetic I’m going for x)
But do feel free to imagine it as a very long dagger or something like that, I’m not going that much into detail

Clearly you haven’t seen Wonder Woman’s sword that she hides behind her back and (possibly) butt crack :joy:
I swear if costume designers tried the costumes themselves, many mistakes in this world would be avoided.

Oh I did and I called bullshit on that one x) hence the big no-no on swords from me :joy:
Well, I still had a good laugh about it especially because the handle was still clearly visible XD

Cane swords are a thing, but are also conspicuous in a different way, and have boat loads of restrictions on them for obvious reasons.

Spears that have poles that screw into place with a spring engaged lock pin to keep the segments from separating could also be a thing, but I don’t know how quick the assembly for that could really be. Unless of course the screw threading was just enough that a half, or quarter turn is all it takes to snap the pieces into place quickly, in which case it is very fast, but a dead give away with how loud that potentially is if you don’t cover the individual spring pins as you attach each part. It should also be mentioned that inflexible poles are rather atypical, and not well suited to the more impressive styles of spear wielding combat.

Of course, reworking these two ideas completely, it isn’t entirely impossible to have a spring-loaded blade in a cane for more of a “short spear” for both beating, and poking. In such a case, knowing how to fence is perfect for that weapon.

That said, you have quite the list of weapons to choose from already. Adding more when you offer a decent selection would probably complicate the code more than necessary with elseif flavor text.

Oooh good old cane swords, completely forgot about those! And wow you really know your stuff, impressive! :+1:

but yeah, it’s a lot already, which is why I’m already reluctant about adding a ‘proper’ spear option.

For Lupita’s first flirt option, the weapon of choice is involved and adding all other variations coming from prior choices made that section a damn beast of coding

I think right now I have a somewhat decent balance between close combat and ranged combat as options, with a staff as a nice compromise between both

plus, I wouldn’t dismiss the advantages of having a hand free, instead of using two daggers

Because I won’t be around tomorrow, you guys get the weekly update today ^^

Not that there is much to say, I didn’t have much energy in me this week to work on the story itself. But Nasim is now officially met, and the pronoun choice is implemented. Other than that, I mostly worked on the archive entries, so I did a deep dive into my lore and worldbuilding notes. I hope to finish the archive today, at least as far as I can. I will have to revise the entries later, and there are sure to follow some, as I progress with the story. It’s easy to write the entries, but what makes it difficult is to be selective on what I have to say, and what would just make it too long.

Below you see how the archive currently would look like after finishing chapter 1

Archive sneak peek

Edit: Archive done! For now it’s a bit more than 3k words worth of lore x)

I really like this so far! Excited for when it next updates

A small update for in between, because I’m excited:

The artist I commissioned for the RO portraits has only one left to finish, and they all look so amazing already, and I love them to pieces  (Lupita’s hair you guys <3)

I know ‘official’ character art has some split opinions in the COG forum. Still, I commissioned those for me, to get a better visual on those four than I can offer with my drawing skills. And I’m a big believer in seeing someone else’s perspective and vision.

I am going to use those portraits on the character page on Tumblr, which you are by no means required to go to, they are a little spoilery rn, but there is no disadvantage in not seeing them.

I will also reblog them to my Tumblr blog and tag them as ‘thehunt-if commission’ so you can black-list it if you really don’t want to see it at all, though I would recommend reblogging it if possible (maybe with the same tag) so the artist gets a little visibility ^^ As for on the COG forum… Maybe I’ll set up a link to the post or set it under a summary? Probably both

I just want to say that there will be no art at all in the game, aside from a cover, of course. Those portraits are for me, I just want to make sure the artist get’s a bit traffic for it, and they’re really too good not to share. That doesn’t mean I won’t love any other version people have of those characters.

Don’t think of the portraits as offical and more as an overly excited writer getting to see the spawn of their imagination in color

sunday update 10.05.2020

I was swamped this week with work/uni stuff, so there wasn’t much work I got done, though what I got down was nice and smooth despite the amount of variations (I really do enjoy writing Nasim, they’re kind of a prick, but I like that about them)

I had to add a few new stats to the first chapter because 20/20 hindsight got to me again, or the story would ignore some choices made in ch1.

I also decided that, while I will add all archive entries to the code with the next update, I will still hide certain spoilery ones even when people pick the option to have all entries visible from the start. Let’s just hope there are not too many code divers around

While I’m (finally) nearing the branching in ch2 there will be an opportunity to ask some questions in-game.
So if there are some burning questions your hunter might have in general or for Elian and/ or Lupita feel free to drop them by so I get an idea of what to include (unless I can’t story-wise of course ^^)

And while we’re at branching etc. Another small question:

Do you prefer

  • Shorter waiting times with less content at once.
  • Longer waiting times with more content at once.

First option would mean I’d probably be able to upload ch2 up till the branching choice (Very likely May) and then update when one of the branches is finished and so on.

Second option means I will upload as planned once one of the branches is done (Probably not before June).

1.Why haven’t you killed me?
2.Are you going to kill me?
3.(For Elian)What’s your species?
