Well since you’re already making Canada into a formidable soccer nation, why not make the teams co-ed while and replace the FiFa with something a little less corrupt and more tolerant of diversity while you’re at it.
Sounds amazing.I would love to play it always.
Glad to see a soccer WIP active again, I wish you luck.
Are body types going to have an effect on skills, like a tall striker having a better header or a smaller one being quicker? Or will it just be cosmetic?
Body types aren’t really going to come into play; the pc’s appearance is going to be pretty much entirely in the reader’s head. I think it’ll make things simpler.
Women’s soccer is a popular sport in the markets you are going to try to sell your story in. Not only that but Soccer is the most flexible to have both men and women involved in it.
The game of soccer is the game of soccer - the differences are outside of the actual game.
This game would be a great chance to break away from the boring norm… what you chose to do is up to you.
Wow a football wip, definitely interested to see how it goes. Though i do have a few questions
- How many seasons are you planning the career to last.
- what positions can we play as stats for each position would have to be different and will there be match situation choices to be made bcz situations would have to be different for different positions.
- What all cups are you planning and could we play in wc, ucl etc.
double facepalm
@maveric619 Europe is the name of the continent. You don’t just pick up your country and move to a different continent.
I am a soccer fan (You try to correct me to say “football” and I live in Europe. Try not to complain!) of Arsenal.
Players don’t get Banned for taking off their shirt. Just a booking.
That may be so, but unless the author changes the leagues to co-ed and has women compete on a somewhat level playing field with the guys the fact remains that soccer for a woman is currently a much less potentially lucrative career than it is for the guys, in fact it is probably one of the professions where the pay and rewards are the most unequal between the genders.
Side note I do think co-ed leagues might be just the thing to break the toxic culture that currently surrounds men’s soccer in these parts. Well that and replacing the FiFa with something better and less corrupt.
Like I said, if the author is going to keep this game in something akin to our present-day world as it is actually going to the next two World Cups might be a very bad idea for an openly gay player.
As I said before no amount of fame or money is worth Russian or Emirati jail time.
Women’s Football Stars get paid for what they bring in. The idea that they get payed less becasue there women is a false narrative. Don’t wanna be a dick but Women’s Football is a different game and people don’t watch it as much as the men’s.
I myself watched some of their world cup and found it very boring. The difference in skill level for Men and Women is quite high.
So up the ante, make the leagues co-ed and have women compete on literally the same level playing field as the guys then there’d be no reason for the pay grade differences and hopefully a far less toxic culture surrounding the entire sport.
I couldn’t comment on that the only times I watch soccer is if my friends make me and even then I just try to focus on the cutest athletes, not the game, which frankly I always find boring to watch.
Still our characters in the game aren’t merely watching they’re participating as pro-athletes, which is a different thing entirely.
I think you are politicising this for no reason my friend. Russia and qatar or fifa have nothing to do with the game.
Also women football players in game will be difficult as author wants game to have a decently realistic game he will have to then implement 2 different list of characters for men and women as teams with men and women players in same team basically is unrealistic for me.
Also are you suggesting the co-ed thing in real life bcz i don’t see how exactly as no sport does that. And women football is not popular bcz there is a vast difference in terms of quality in men and women football and add to that women footballers are not as marketable, none in right mind would pay inferior and less marketable players similar money.
Either this is pure fiction in a better world than ours or Russia, Qatar and the FiFa will have to have their roles in this story if the author is going to go for verisimilitude.
Am I politicising this, perhaps a bit, but it’s not for no reason it is because this is the ugly truth. In its current form soccer is a homophobic sport governed by perhaps the most corrupt organisation on the planet.
While I may not be a great affectionado of the sport myself, it is a very big thing over here in Europe and I have (gay) friends and acquaintances who are, people who by the way may not attend the 2018 and 2022 games, despite one of them going since he was a little kid because it is feared that mr. Putin will no longer be as “tolerant” as he was in 2014 and the fact that Qatar has quite openly announced their intention to ban gay fans with their new “test” and that would likely extend to openly gay players as well, as might Putin’s propaganda law for that matter since an openly gay celebrity player may be seen as a walking, talking bit of gay propaganda under that law.
I have nothing against the sport, though no particular love for it either, but the politics and real-life issues surrounding it are frankly abominable if you’re looking at it from the point of gay rights (and fighting corruption), which I am.
In real life I wish my country and the EU would stop funding the professional soccer leagues until FiFa and many of the (owners of the) clubs learn to respect basic human rights.
Again if the author goes for any similarity to real-life I don’t see how the politics could be avoided entirely, particularly since our character is both allowed to be gay and could potentially become a star player.
On the other hand since the author is already somewhat committed to changing reality by making Canada into a major soccer country perhaps some of the other elements could be changed as well, such as a better governing body then the real-life FiFa or better/different host countries for the next World Cups. Though in Russia you might get away by merely changing the government or even by giving mr. Putin another bout of “tolerance” surrounding the 2018 WC. Qatar’s issues are far more structural though and I don’t see any happy solution, other than changing the host entirely or having our in-game gay characters decline to go there at all.
You would be wrong the sport I did in highschool and college and occasionally still do purely for recreation these days, Equestrian is fully co-ed.
In my very best junior eventing performance I was in fact beaten down to bronze by a girl who took silver.
As for co-ed leagues I think it would make for better gameplay for more people, at the cost of some verisimilitude, or else you can do what Slammed did and make women’s soccer as well-paid and watched as the men’s leagues in this game and have our choice of gender affect in which one we’ll compete.
I agree. @Orange If you’re going to make Canada a top contender in world football (why?) you might as well keep it up and have co-ed teams and a more gay friendly environment. Then you’ll be able to create wholly unique teams and characters.
Otherwise I feel like you should go full realism. Having it set now or some time in the past and being able to play in/against teams with your favourite players is always fun. Would there be an issue with using real players names?
In my mind the author can approach this story a couple of ways - he can go the pure simulation route, in which case his competition really is more the AAA titles out there - or he can make this his take on the soccer world, a commentary on everything outside of the actual game.
If he tries to go the simulation route, I’m really not sure how complex the CoG game can be without a major investment in the game will be; we are talking Zombie Exodus + Infinity series (and add @Lucid’s complex stats) complexity. If he wants to go this route that will be fine; he should realize the undertaking that will need to occur.
If he goes less on the simulation and more towards examining the different aspects of the soccer world, he can address controversies from both the Men’s and Women’s sides of the game … artificial turf, bribery, and rules all can be explored in an inclusive way.
He doesn’t really have to change the leagues, he will need to have some basic branches that depend on the gender - but if it is done this way, then it will be a more powerful entry in the CoG/Hosted library … the idea is to be a more “Slamed” type of CoG game and less of a FiFA AAA game.
the author can ignore me; yet to do so would be to pass up a lot of possibilities which would help him sell his game.
True in that case it probably wouldn’t interest me too much.
Whereas this does potentially interest me, so long as our mc potentially get to make some positive changes and we aren’t condemned to just bang our heads against the wall here, or in case of my putative mc get a “footballers wife”, who immediately spends any money we make, and be forced to act “straight” for the sake of our career.
True, I loved Slammed despite knowing nothing of wrestling beforehand. Though I do hope the author will consider providing an in-game glossary of terms for the more technical terms so the more clueless players, like me, can actually form an idea about what their characters are going to be trying to do in response to the different technical choices.
Wrong sport my friend, equestrian as far as i know is event where there is no physical combat ( i know it is not the exact word but can’t think of any better right now) involved, you cannot compare it with football. In football your physicality that is your size, strength, speed come into play and at whatever level one wants to play if it a competitive game rather than recreational one most girls will be weaker in those aspects than guys, it is how it is.
I think making co-ed league would be a sort of double edged sword in a way as if the author want it to be co-ed it will have to come with added social and political elements as just adding women to the game for the sake of it would be using them as kind of a prop to sell more games. But adding those elements might take focus away from your mc and his/her life in game and the game then becomes a sort of political statement which some might enjoy and some might not. Also you can’t compare it with slammed which while is a great template to follow is rather easier to do given that women have been part of sports entertainment for a long time and we have seen females win against men, football is a completely different beast as here the storyline will be mostly dependent on his actual in game performance a scripted story beyond a point won’t work atleast for me.
i agree with what you are saying but won’t that kind of put your mc’s story in backstage while trying to put a sort of limelight on social issues.
Won’t that make it into a more political wip rather than a sports themed one as slammed was. It worked really well but it kept things mostly funny while spoofing likes of HHH and punk what you and @Eiwynn are suggesting is heavy stuff where the fun element will mostly take a back seat.
