I’m sure it will go quite well with the morning coffee
Just make sure you don’t pick the nautical-themed room, don’t want to get seasickness right at breakfast time.
Not a chance. There is a room called Cat’s Cradle… What can I say, I’m a big softie when cats are involved

HYPE HYPE HYPE
IM SO EXCITED TO PLAY THIS
A new choice/scene related to the baby deer?!
This is the best new addition; all the other ones can go home.
Serioussly though, I really love that you’ve added the option for a nickname, and I’m super excited to check out the new room themes (along with everything else, honestly).
Thank you so much for this. I’m looking forward to losing myself in the demo.
I am loving the update! Question for you, though…
My MC has been choosing every James and Reese combo choice available, but when it got to the search for Milton in the woods, here’s what I got:
I checked the code and it looks like there should be a choice for J & R again. Did my MC do something wrong?
I had the same problem doing their routes separately so I think it’s a bug.
“Into the woods you go”
Me: YES slaps next
thats the end of the demo
Me: NO
Can I just say this is horror done great. It’s like a slow creeping dread that you can feel building, and there’s nothing anyone can do about it……at least not yet.
All of the RO’s are adorable and feel like actual people with their own personality. I am really frustrated because I can’t decide whose route I want to focus on, they all are so great!
You have an avid supporter and fan in me. This story and characters are amazing! You’re amazing dear author!
At least to me, this is what horror and suspense writing should be!
Congrats on re-release!
First, thank everyone who took the time to play and for your support; it means so much.
@Lambkin The baby deer > All the ROs, lol. I adore seeing the comments and tags about Bambi; he will come up again, so I hope you all are relatively nice to him.
The nickname option has been requested a few times and it’s something I think can be cool! I don’t tend to play with one, so making it more of a mechanic than a 1 to 1 substitution will hopefully make it more interesting as the MC’s friends use it.
@EvilChani and @Cat-Toes Hi! Yes, that was an odd bug. I had to copy some old code and re-write even though it should have worked. I’ve fixed it, re-uploaded the files, and play tested, but please tell me if y’all encounter it again. Thank you for pointing it out!
@MyBonesAreFine Oof, a dastardly cliffhanger. I’m glad you’re excited for more!
@leophoenix Hi! I recognize you from Tumblr too, so it’s great to see you.
^This is exactly what I am going for in these earlier chapters and throughout the series, so I am happy that you feel that build of the unease and disquiet. Also, I love that inclusion of: ‘at least not yet’ because there will be a time for the MC to both react and make choices to try and cope/combat/submit to/deal with what is going on, but this first book is more of an eye opening experience, I would say. I’m so glad you are enjoying the ROs. I love hearing that people may take the time do multiple playthroughs of the game since it makes writing all the variation and little details more rewarding. Thank you for your kind words!
@lacunafiction I was having another bug in the chaper 3 nightmare sequence. I tried reasoning with everyone at the front door first, but when I tried the backdoor or the window after giving the initial walking to the door/window it shifted to me being outside trying to reason with A again.
Hi @Cat-Toes! Thank you for catching that! I have re-uploaded the scenes–I had the wrong goto command in there. It should work now.
Wheeee, Fernweh is back!
This is how horror is done. Like, horror isn’t when the xenomorph kills Dallas in the vents, it’s all the tension building to that moment. The kill is just… something that has to happen to not make the tension useless.
“Violence, death, house fire, mild cursing.” Beware, adventurer, the lands ahead are filled with tigers, lions, venomous snakes, and bunny wabbits. Bunny wabbits? With nasty, big, pointy teeth like this, fss, fss.
That’s ok, I bet J can keep me safe. And R… well, R probably has a good chance of snarking anything to death, which is always a major plus in any RO.
Can confirm the nightmare thing is fixed.
No R+J option for picture-watching support, dunno if that’s intended or not.
I want to strenuously object to the mere notion, let alone certainty, that I would, at any point in my existence, refuse a mug of hot cocoa.
And the current demo ends here, so we never come out. Damn woods. We dead.
It is January. And I have just enough time to read something…
Why does our search party have to consist of two people and not three
MY search party is three people. Yours can be too, provided those three are you, R, and J.
@JBento The fact you were excited to re-read Fernweh Saga after recently discovering it makes me ridiculously happy, Joao.
I almost added the Will Smith meme, but can’t place it beside the quoted text so it appears as if he is gesturing to your words. I strongly agree with you! There are different types of horror (of course), but I feel that the underlying tension can be found in anything from a slasher chase to a creepy house (the ones no one should ever go in?) to a seeing the ‘horror’ at the start and knowing it will pop again, etc.
Love that you made an alien reference; there are technically two tiny ones in the game, if you pick the Sci Fi room…(One is a choice).
.> Ngl, I would give the bunny wabbit a chance (like 10 seconds) even after it flashed those chompers at me, so would B.
RIP to us. Cute pic!
I can confirm that R will snark most things to death, especially when feeling threatened, while J naturally has a protective streak to their old childhood friend that heightens in romance (they care a lot).
That is intended because it sets friendship, rather than a romantic interaction (so only B, J, R, or S). I tried to use ‘friendly’ and ‘helping’ to signal it, but may adjust it for the final game to make it more clear to readers.
I am having hot chocolate as I type this and relate to you. I will give a wee spoiler: You have a chance to set you drink choice in Chapter 6, though it can also come up in Chapter 7, if you forgo it. So, you will be able to have some then, I promise.
Thank you for all your comments and for playing!
@Aleksa100 …And I have just the something for you to read. (I’m glad you’re excited for it!)
@Frieza Good question! @JBento is correct that if you would like three people in your search party, then a way to guarantee it is to be on the JR poly route.
Other than that, the party consists of two people since Chapter 5 is pivotal both for the plot and also there are some nice romance moments so I wanted to give you some one-on-one time with your RO. So, uhm, if B tagged along with you, they would kind of third wheel that, lol.
Really, I think we can all agree going as a group makes the most sense, right? I put that choice in there with R, B, and S asking about J’s plan to acknowledge I know the trope and am poking fun at it. (Though J is actually right in some ways about covering ground, that logic flies out the window in horror movies/books).
Thank you all for playing!
This is really intriguing story telling! With the way the demo ended, I’m certainly looking forward to going into the woods and not dying.
Summary
I just one doubt. In the demo there are choices where we chose which companion is addressed, like for example near the ending where we choose whom J is replying to. Do those choices affect our relation with them or are they just so that good flavour can be added into the story?
Also a typo:
It should be plan.
