Three spirits walk into a bar…
Hi everyone! Came back from holiday and working on another update already, see you soon
Just played for the first time (or might have played when it was just the prologue and chapter 1) and really enjoyed it! All the characters are interesting and a delight and I am so gripped by the mystery!

Thank you for reading and providing feedback! Happy you enjoyed it
Writing a mystery as a long-term project with updates in installments turned out to be quite a test of patience for me. Holding all the cards in my lonely echo chamber and going insane
after some postponed… i finally finished the demo (ch4 as of now)
there are bit of typos / mismatch pronouns then and there.
but the rest is good. feel like a good break after some heavy stuff.
keep up the good work
Thank you for the feedback! I’m glad you enjoyed it. Finding all the typos is a never-ending struggle, lol. One must imagine Sisyphus happy…
(I’m at the part where you’ve plopped onto your bed after the raven gave you a tour of the bar ATM)
So far enjoying it. And I know I’m only a few pages in, but one thing I think would be cool is having the choice to still feel pissed about it. You died, now here’s a bar you gotta manage. Like it could be a thing where you were always forced to take the paths you didn’t choose in life, and once again, you are forced to do so. Even after death. Which now that I think about- what if there was an option to WANT to voice your frustration on the page in the above pic, but that void that desires the end of it’s loneliness (which I assume to be an entity that’s supposed to embody a need that the character doesn’t know they have) stops them once again from voicing any kind of opinion that might show that you didn’t want this. Also, something that might pair well with my previous suggestion of life leading you places you didn’t want to be and also the death by starvation- would be to have the option to choose “homeless” as an occupation. And more choice options for showing a Dead Look. Like, you’re mentally and emotionally void, the anger and frustration is there somewhere under the layers of apathy, but you feel like if you just go with the motions enough and nod along to death’s and the raven’s words, then you’ll be able to find a quiet moment of privacy somewhere later on- like in the bathroom -to finally let out all the emotions you’ve been disassociating yourself from.
After reading through my above suggestions again before posting- this kinda sounds like a more apathetic, grumpier angrier(?), and quieter oscar the grouch type of person.
First of all, welcome to the cog forums
There’s definitely a lot to play with this theme of control and frustration—I’m guessing you took the anger path, right? You will have the opportunity to voice those frustrations a bit down the road in some form. Either way, I liked all of your ideas. There’s certainly more room for the MC to voice their internal struggles, and the “death looks” are a planned feature!
For the other suggestions, I need to think about how some of these could work mechanically, but I’m doing another rewrite after the upcoming update, and that will be an excellent time for it
Thank you so much for the feedback! I’d love to hear your final thoughts after you’re done (or before that, whenever you got them lol)
Just in time for the spooky season, the new update is here!
By popular demand, you can now browse the Library of Pseudonium and discover 10 new entries—tales from across the realms of TBOTA, each with its genre, format, and mood.
But be warned… the cosmos is dark and filled with terrors, and so are some of these tales…
You can try uncovering these hidden tomes in Memoriam (Chapter 4), but if you’re not up for a fresh playthrough, don’t worry
I’ve added a new section in the stats menu called “The Archive” that will contain all songs, books, and notes from the game.
For now, all 10 entries are unlocked and available, even from a new save.
I can’t wait to hear what you think about this new collection—writing these short stories has been an absolute joy, and I’m excited to read your reactions.
Happy autumn, and see you soon in the Abyss!
Hey patrons!
So, what did you all think of the short stories collection?
Did any of them stand out to you? What worked or didn’t? Is there else anything you’d love to see more of in the future
Also, exciting news: I’ve begun working on Chapter 5—we’re moving forward!
After the new chapter’s update, I’ll dedicate the following to overhauling some of the game’s romance aspects, sort of a 3.0 update.
Thanks for reading. As always, your feedback means the world to me—please let me know what you think!
You’re really putting a lot of work in! An archive for stories to unlock and read later sounds like it’s fun.
I haven’t looked yet but I love these kind of in universe things to discover.
Thanks for that.
Thank you! Take your time I’d love to hear your thoughts once you’re done.
Exciting update! I’ll try to check out all those entries this weekend!
I haven’t finished, but I went to check who you can romance in the main post and… You can romance He Without Name, but not Shelly. Haha that’s brilliant
Have a great weekend! Lmk your thoughts after reading
He Without Name won the poll back in the day for “Who among the staff would you like to romance” That’s how we got here.
Have fun reading!
The beauty of Democracy at work!
Shelly is my video game daughter, I’d feel weird romancing her!
That’s why I added the option to play matchmaker with her; the dynamics feel much better that way imo.
Yep we just cried in the “walk-in-fridge?”. A right of passage for every barworker, dead or alive. Who can you set her up with? Planned or otherwise
I’m glad Yaga didn’t win
