Tally Ho Spoilers Discussion

Hello! Does anyone have any advice on how to the get the There They Remain achievement?

You have to fail to free someone from prison, and then refuse Hardcastle’s offer to free them in return for ensuring the police boat wins the race.

Thanks! Each time I get to this part I either succeed in getting them released right away or I get caught and sentenced to hard labor. Any suggestions on how to fail at getting them out without going away for twenty years?

Rather than breaking into the prison (in which case, if you fail, you will be arrested), you must try to go to the station and talk some sense into Inspector Ambrose. You can do so by saying that if he catches the real suspect, he will become famous when you have low renown, saying a twist in the story is yet to come with low culture, or saying that releasing the suspect would help draw out the real Light-fingered Lou with low intellect, persuade, and skulduggery.

Thanks again! This was the last achievement that hadn’t been unlocked yet, finally got it:)

I lurked a lot in this discussion for help with achievements and I’m quite close to completing them all. Absolutely in love with the game and the brilliant characters!

I spotted a possible typo:

In the screen that appears when you select the option in the first image, shouldn’t ‘most’ be ‘moment’?

Thank you for the catch! I am collecting a number of little fixes for Tally Ho at the moment, and will do a big update that fixes lots of typos after I finish Chapter Five of Tea and Scones.

Including, of course, updated boat puns.

Any other typos or anything anyone finds–let me know!

I’m so incredibly excited for Tea and Scones! Once I finish all the achievements for Tally Ho, it’ll be on to Cakes and Ale to get the remaining ones there. Speaking of achievements, Lie to Her Face is eluding me as I don’t know what’s involved (I’m reasonably confident it’s about Trina…), and the secret ending ones:

A Thrilling Heist
Dr. X
Fifi Buttercup

and I can never successfully destroy that darned notebook despite high Bold/Skulduggery (I assume those are the stats but clearly not!)

Thanks again for the great game and your continuing discussions!

If you need a tip on those achievements, let me (or the thread, actually) know–the thread is usually much better than I am at remembering the best way to get the achievements!

I have now got all the achievements I mentioned, thanks to a couple of comprehensive walkthroughs by user @Rosencrantz! I think those posts didn’t show up in my searches because the achievement names were under summary sections.

During this process, I found a couple more tiny typos, but I’m getting ‘sorry, you can’t embed media into posts’ despite my trust level being 1 :frowning: If you could have a look at that I can post the images here.

I also have some juvenile boat names I like to use, mostly courtesy of Bob Mortimer the comedian (I think you will like him, if you don’t already!): Dog Dirt, Chicken Dipper, Sniper’s Dream, Boat McFoolish. It would be an honour to see one of these in the next update

I’ve got four achievements to go, then on to Cakes and Ale to do the same. Not that it means I won’t come back to Tally Ho again - I love this series too much :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

You can just send the typos to support, or DM them to me as text–either way!

As for the boat names–well–surely you know my schema for how I come up with the boat names and what they mean–and if not, that’s an additional challenge for you–and then you’ll easily be able to figure out new ones for me…

Thanks so much for your post. For the last four days I have been absolutely grinding through my outline and pouring out a torrent of words for Tea and Scones–it’s super fun, but very very alone work, and it is amazing and energy-giving to hear from readers who enjoy it all. Thank you.

Hello! I’m not quite sure if you will see this, or if this is the appropriate place to ask, or even perhaps if you’ve answered it before. Is there a plan for a prequel of sorts or a sequel with Tally Ho’s MC? I think Rory is my favorite RO in any interactive novel I’ve ever played and selfishly, I would love to see more of the duo’s adventures together. That aside, I just can’t wait to play Cakes and Ale! Thank you for creating something so wonderful. It’s brought me so much comfort and happiness and I wish you lots of luck with Tea and Scones! Thank you for your hard work and for the countless laughs!

Another game with the Tally Ho MC…I have thought about a few ideas about how to do it, and I think I know how I would do it if I did do it, but I can’t even start to think about that tiny spark becoming something real yet. Not until I get Tea and Scones and then Port in a Storm done, and then I have another idea for something that I’d want to do after that…so as you can see, with the current rate of word inflation of my games, we shall all be considerably older by the time I’m ready for that.

So let’s just say “no news on that front.”

Please report back after you have thoroughly sampled Cakes and Ale! I’d love to hear what you thought, and who a Rory lover like you will end up spending their time with.

I am left hanging and I don’t like it.

Thank you so much for the reply!! Regardless, I adore your work so dearly that I will be sticking around to play whatever you release. I can’t wait to see what colorful characters await, though Rory will be first in my heart!

Thank you again!!

Gower, did you like school as a boy?

Okay I hate to have my first comment here be so abrupt because I’ve been playing Tally Ho and Jolly Good for like 2 weeks straight while I’ve been on holiday but I have a very Urgent question because I really want to keep reading but I’m soon to get on a plane that is very unlikely to have functioning wifi:

In Valentine’s rowing scene, what are the checks for the different options for impressing the agents?

In my first time romancing him (which went pretty weirdly but that’s another story haha) I picked the ‘be a perfect servant’ option but it very much failed, probably because my MC has sorta uhhhhhh not actually taught him anything? :'D (she’s extremely easygoing and sort of just a natural talent at servantry so she was just too friendly and a terrible mentor hahaha.) But the ‘fall off the boat’ option feels like a Bold check and ‘have a lover’s quarrel’ feels like an Abrasive check and unfortunately those are her absolutely worst stats bar Skullduggery which also might be part of it what with all the lying/acting.

Normally I’m perfectly happy with characters failing at stuff as long as it makes sense but I’d feel really bad about ruining Valentine’s career opportunity right at the crucial moment, here! Especially since my last playthrough with him ended so unceremoniously.

Is there anything my poor overly-easygoing (yet startlingly persuasive and for some reason extremely intelligent?!) MC can do to help her cute puppy of a boyfriend achieve his dreams?!

Lovers’ quarrel is *if ((rep_val > 70) or (culture > 65))!

The boat falling out is *if ((observe > 50) and (bold > 35)) for pushing; ((persuade > 50) and (val_skill > 60)) for “pick something”; and ((val_skill > 60) and (skullduggery > 50)) for comic death.

Val_skill, of course, is a hidden stat that measures how much you’ve taught Valentine, which in your case…sounds like it might be low.

Have a good flight!

In chapter 2, after you get Aunt Primrose’s gift, how do you get “Firesnuff opens the train door” to be selectable?

For Col. Firesnuff to open the train door, your reputation with him has to be at least 30.

To make Firesnuff like you, get on the train without disrupting the proposal (or if you do disrupt the proposal, apologize to the couple or offer to pay for dry cleaning). If you are in first class, behave politely, don’t get caught in a deception, and apologize to Firesnuff if you did somehow disrupt the proposal. In the gift shop, either let Firesnuff have the hairstick to begin with, or successfully claim it for yourself. (You can also avoid the gift shop confrontation if you have gone to first class and persuaded Firesnuff to buy Aunt Primrose taffy.)
