Street Jam: The Rise -- Become the best street fighter in the city!

I don’t know why everybody’s complaining this is pretty good if you choose the right stats

Ahh… man this game’s frustrating. After restarting 20+ times, I deleted it. Not having the option to save makes me not want to buy these games. Definitely not getting anymore on Android. Maybe Steam since you can edit saves. >:(

@Tevin Ill try to explain what i mean by story structure and where do i see biggest problem with street jam, also im not native english speaker so i hope that i’ll be able to relay what i mean in coherent manner.

This is main problem with many COG titles here - trying to do too much (tell?) with only brushing everything. In SJ there are many tournaments but most of them (aside from 2nd and last IMO) feel short, they come and go, without doing anything meaningful to the story. IMO instead of making 7 tournaments (i remember correctly?) where hardly anything is going on (relevant to the plot) and tens of characters are introduced only to disapear to (almost) never be mentioned again, it would be better if you focused on less events but with more substance to them.

Its same with characters - i really liked Vampirette and found “Nemesis” to be interesting character but we had hardly any interaction with them. Not only them tho - i find whole street jam cast nicely written but they have hardly any relevance to the plot and we have almost no interactions with them to get them know better.
And i think that strong cast of characters is very important for this kind of game. Of course this is only my opinion, but looking at most popular games in COG library (Wayheven, Breach etc.) i think its shared by many readers here.

Overall SJ reminds me of many chinese novels i read, where many things become pointless , forgotten and obsolete as soon as their respective arc ends.

Good example of novel doing it correctly would be Breach - there are only few meaningful events but all are long and full of (important to the plot and characterization) content(is this right the word?), reader also get too spend much time with his crew and (in some cases at least) LO, so when s*it hits the fan and (at least in my case) player gets abandoned and betrayed (well, sort of) it has more emotional load than in SJ. Why? Because player actually had time to spend with those characters and warmed up to them. You cant really expect help or from characters with whom i had hardly any interaction with or care about their fate.

If i had to sum it up - SJ is more like HnS game instead of RPG (which is imo what novel should really be about), or like tabletop rpg session where GM rush players.

Still, i repeat this again - IMO you have talent (Vampirette interactions or picking up tsundere Nemesis are brilliant) so dont be dejected by initial reaction to SJ.

Oh and regarding difficulty - i really dont find street jam that difficult and think that people are just nitpicking in that regard. I personally dont like ANY difficulty in my choice novels (because this is how i treat those games - non-linear novels) but dont think that SJ is more difficult than your average COG novel, especially since you dont have to win all fights to get (best?) ending, only common sense.

Good luck with your next work :slightly_smiling_face:

Still annoyed about that bit " Did you bang everyone? " question from you know who when my character was a lesbian and them acting like i failed cause i didn’t.

Does anyone know Kennedy’s weakness or how to get through his test

Hi guys, sorry to bring this thread up but just wanted a guide or advice on how to meet Totsu.

I’ve played through to the final boss and near the last fight the script mentioned about Totsu but I have not met that character yet so that got me confused!

Did you defeat all the tag teams in the tournament? I think Totsu is the final boss of the tournament if I remember right.

Ohh that explains why, thanks!

But do you or anyone else have a guide on how to win the tag team tournament? I can’t seem to win… And then later on after Royal, I thought I chose not to stay as number 2 in order to unlock the final boss, but I did in the end… Any guides there? Haha thanks guys!

@Kleen Very nice words and interesting perspective. You sure seem to know what you’re talking about, even with your warning of not being a native English speaker I think I get your points very well.

Anyway, you are right about the aspects of things going by and moving on without much real impact, but rather than comparing it to one of those Chinese novels but a video game instead.

Street Jam is a video game before it’s a novel. The tournaments are stages, the characters are adversaries, and there are bosses littered throughout.

Another thing is the fact the game itself consistently refers to itself as a game and every time you die it directly states “Game Over” and at the end of the game you even get a score based on how many enemies you beat like in an arcade game.

Considering all this I am a bit surprised it seems a lot of players did not pick up on this but I suppose it may be because there aren’t really any other HG that consider themselves this way.

Anyway, I learned with Become Mortal that people tend to much prefer more novel writing and tones than video game styles, although the novelty is perhaps a bit lessened to me as it makes it a much more traditional HG or COG as opposed to the craziness of SJ but it seems to be what more people are into.

Anyway, all that about getting past tournaments quickly and characters, although unique, being one-off come both from the original Def Jam inspiration and the whole being more of a video game than a novel. So yes, your points stand true, this is how it was made, a video game where you go through stages and bosses rather than a novel where you go through a traditional story. Interesting how you compare it to Chinese novels, I really like video games from there like Dynasty Warriors. And the novel Romance of the Three Kingdoms.

Oh, and I appreciate your sentiment about not being dejected from the negative feedback. I honestly haven’t been feeling too discouraged by it to be honest lol I don’t really believe in failure ruling your life, you should view failure as lessons for your future successes and only see your goals in my opinion. That’s my motto. So don’t worry too much about me there but your concern is very appreciated, shows there are people who remember that there are souls behind the games they play and they should remember them when they express their thoughts about the product.

And yeah glad you don’t see much difficulty lol it’s nice you noticed while you certainly can lose a lot of fights there are less than ten game overs that will force you to restart in the entire story. It really goes back to gamers who seem to find SJ notably more easy than people who are much more into novels, I think that part doesn’t slip their view as much. Anyhow glad you don’t find it that difficult despite not liking any difficulty in your choice novels, maybe that means I need to make the sequel even harder :smiling_imp:

Anyway yeah there’s a lot of nitpicking but the big reviews which give reasons for their feelings, pros and cons, and honest feedback from analysis are the true feedback and the one I listen to the most. More professional, thought-out, and likely to actually give real improvements which is why I love comments like yours :+1:

As for your other thoughts, glad you like the Vammpirette and Royal, one big thing about both of them is the fact that they were not planned as one-off encounters, Royal was always planned as the most reoccurring rival from the players past as the Vampirette was created after full romance was requested. The fact these two characters both started off as one’s that were always going to be around for a while rather than becoming full-fledged characters who were originally planned as one-off really speaks to me. In the end I am still glad I made the decision to add full romance, it was what the fans seemed to want so it was what I gave and I think the results may not have been perfect but were still enjoyable to most people, and that’s what truly matters.

Your thoughts about them being good but not having much interaction are the main reason I wrote up more scenes with them and planned to add them for an update but while the scenes are completely finished unfortunately I was informed my current files do not pass a full 10000 test of randomtest. I keep trying to use the choicescript IDE to figure it out but it glitches out after about 6000 tests, leaving me unable to find the error. Reinstalling it many times has not helped either and because I unfortunately have no one that can find the error for me with a working computer I can’t update SJ, even with all the expanded scenes done. Even the one with Spike posted on here can’t be added now. It’s very frustrating to have everything needed but have my old computer holding me back…

Anyway, thanks for your words and time. Hope to see you again

@Astralise.Ink how true.

@Tamarcus_Blanco Light.

@ash10 very sorry to have taken a while to answer you, I would like to refer you to the original Street Jam WIP thread as it has the guide for the fights there on the top post. Unfortunately since I did not make the top post here I cannot add it here but I did copy and paste it in an earlier comment. Here is the link to that thread, top comment just touch or click the word guide. Street Jam: The Rise (Finished and submitted)

As for Totsu, she is the final boss of the tag team tournament and the endurance boss of the game. Spare her life and she will appear again when you have the chance to move out of your home. She may be befriended or romanced here. It is also recommended you at least make her your friend as she will be a powerful ally in the sequel.

Anyhow, everyone I am very sorry about my long leave of absence but unfortunately this virus struck hard. Wrong time to not be in America. I don’t wish to go into detail because it is off-topic but I have been personally effected by it. I recommend you all get as much vitamin C as possible, it will be a great help against this pandemic. But I will answer any lingering questions you all may have right now.

Become Mortal is still on hold and will likely be that way for a long time, but do not fret, it will be reopened and I will get back to it eventually. That is unfortunately the best answer I can give you for right now as it is the reality. In the meantime, I am actively writing Souls of Destiny. It is fantasy so it may tickle your urge as well.

Street Jam has, in fact, sold enough to constitute a sequel. Honestly it sold enough for a trilogy, but while it will get a sequel I have other priorities right now and although the rating on the play store has greatly improved and it is still selling well on the omnibus app, I feel other projects are best to focus on right now.

High School Hero has shifted from my focus in place of Souls of Destiny. The reason is that I have found a new coding language I have become able to do unimaginable things with, all because of my third publisher Decision Fiction and I have found the ability to do things I never could with it. I had to get special permission from the CEO himself to let you all know this as Decision Fiction has not been quite public yet since they have yet to do their big debut (Which will have Souls of Destiny in it) but he is a good man who understood the need for me to update you all on this situation.

Also, as this pandemic has not died down yet, I will likely still not be very active on here but I will pop in monthly, as that is the best I can do at this point in time.

Lastly, I know you all have likely too been having hard times in this pandemic. I’ve experienced it first-hand and I’ll bet many of you have it worst, which is why I have decided to give away a free Steam copy of Street Jam to one random fan. Look to my Twitter tomorrow to enter for a chance to win it. I hope it gives whoever wins it refuge from the living stress the current situation of the world has caused, as that is all I can hope for at this time.

Until next time everyone, I believe I will have another thing to give the next time I post. I wish you all good luck in dealing with this all and will continue to hope my creations bring you an escape from your pains during this dreadful period.

Goodbye.

Anybody know how to do the secret romance (???)->This one…Is it the final boss?

I also have a question about vampirette which is the requirements and guide to romance her because I am having trouble with this?

@varada_naveen yes

@WarMachine658 win against her and Kennedy, ask her to walk you out instead of Streak, be super nice and show romantic interest in a gentleman way (So compliment her dress, not her chest!) And agree to break up with anyone else. Is that what you were looking for?

Does anyone have any tips on getting the speedster, tireless, champion killer, and big break achievements?

Really enjoyed the game, looking forward to your next project. question, Is Royal and ??? the only multi romance in the game?

Yeah but that’s the problem. It should never have to be about choosing the right stats. It basically turns it into a railroaded story where, and I’m pretty sure I’m not wrong, a vast majority of players made the exact same choices as each other, which renders other “choices” practically useless.
I mean that’s what happened to TLH3.

100% agree there. This thing needs way more work before it can be classed as a “proper” game.

The game is rushed that there is not enough time to implement these achievements properly

Tevin, there are a lot of bugs to fix. Plus, you need to improve the game a lot. Do you still have plans for the future Street Jam Games?

Sorry everyone I haven’t really logged into here in like a year lol and not planning on it much for a while, I’ll answer whatever I’ve gotten since I last showed.

@Andy_Apple Been a while but I remember my game perfectly. Speedster and tireless are both tied to beating the boss who represents speed and stamina respectively and gives a huge stat check for them, every boss fight has the top option be that option, choose it and win, achievement unlocked. Champion killer is beat the bonus fight you unlock for beating the game with a high score. And big break is choose the journalist background, make sure to gather as much evidence as possible, then choose the special journalist ending. It’s arguably the toughest ending to achieve.

@DariasRightfulKing Nooo check out the original SJ thread for who can be multi romanced. Only a certain vampire lady requires exclusivity.

@Ghost_Train664 I don’t know what TLH3 is but no, regardless of what stats you receive choosing a different background leads to a unique experience and unique endings an option, then there’s the huge romance option list as well as multi romancing and mix and matching them, and there’s the fact that every single training option in the game leads to a completely different experience in between the fights and levels.

You don’t need to choose the right stats at all because there are almost no places where you can get a game over in Street jam the stats literally only effect the fights and some dialogue options and differences here and there. You don’t by any means need to worry about stats at all for anything other than winning the fights. I wanted SJ to be less about stats when it came to story and more about choices which is why the game opens with the choice of background that changes your experience constantly with details everywhere.

I will admit my games flaws. There weren’t as many endings as there could be but that is simply because SJ is meant for a sequel and so I couldn’t go crazy on giving you 100 endings. I admit it readily and wholeheartedly.

I completely respect your opinion however the stats were intentionally made as a difficulty system separate from story and so I must explain this all, also your claim of it barely being able to be classified as a “game” is not valid criticism and considering it passed COGs guidelines, got published, and sits at a 4.4 out of 5 review score on the Hosted Games App and is above half of the other games on there in rating, I’d say it classifies as a game.

@Patrick_Cody02 every achievement is completely obtainable or else it would not have been published. As for the bugs, I haven’t received a bug report in over a year since I last fixed them. If there are any more please report them on the app, they will be sent to my email, and I will fix them immediately friend. Having a bug free game matters to me deeply.

As for the future of SJ I have been focusing on other projects like music and modeling but I have made a few games on twitch and distributed them independently. I won’t advertise myself here as they are not published by HG and it would be wrong of me to push my non HG content here but you can PM me here for links and such.

But for SJ yeah. My idea for a sequel has completely changed and it will be far far different and larger than the original, and especially wacky and whimsical but filled with action and RO intimacy however it is going to be a long wait before I get to it as I have been focused on non COG/HG projects. Apologies.

Bless you all, thank you for playing my game, and I probably won’t log in for another long while so if there are any bugs still around report them on the app. Peace out. :v:t4:
