Does gender matter?
Not really
Well somehow it still not working for me.
Congrats @Tevin on the release! I really enjoyed the game when it was a WIP and I can’t wait finish the game! I’m loving it so far (no surprise)
I mean, the language starts off largely irreverent and doesn’t stray even during the intro. This game goes out of its way to shed the professional look, it’s very much in character for the tone he is trying to set (early 2000s hip-hop/‘hood’ culture in a video game lens). Then again I greatly enjoyed Def Jam so this is kind of right down my alley, though I get the feeling a lot of people on the forums will view this as a divisive game.
Had a few solid laughs so far, game is difficult but I can’t say if that is because I’m trying to be too much of a generalist or if the stat balance is a bit off-key.
It’s not the only way, for example to beat the first boss you need 30 in Str,Spd,End or Cha.
Also you can beat Kennedy by moving in and choosing the right answers, the only time it’s necessary to cheat is when fighting the second boss(if you lack a specific stat) and when dealing with the semi-final boss.
Overall you need a primary stat, a secondary stat and pay to raise the rest which should get you just enough to beat the final boss.
I’m annoyed because of some of the comments here. Look, if you like nice games that aren’t too offensive that’s awesome; but it was clarified since the beginning this game was going to be offensive. Like, the warnings were clear (fat shaming, some transphobic insults, etc) So yeah, not everything is going to be nice and you just have to accept it people. Gee, I’ve always wanted a game that wasn’t scared of being controversial and I bet some other people also wanted this. Don’t ruin it for us, this will make other authors scared of insulting their audience or addressing homophobia, sexism issues, etc. Oof.
Basically, it’s okay if you want to use literature to escape from the bad things of real world but also, you’re responsible of your decisions and if you’re already triggered just because the game called you a “snowflake” or wthv, well it’s clear that game won’t suit you so don’t play it.
Also, who are the RO’S? Congrats for the release
The RO’s are most of the opponents, if you want the list it’s in the old topic, along with hints to every fight.
All above aside, I won’t personally buy a game that ends just because I said no to accepting what the game after a couple of ‘no’ claimed to be a katana when going to the gym, then a few no’s later, bam, done. Game over, start again or not.
Well, not, and no purchase. Not playing that over from scratch after that kind of sudden stop.
Just my personal choice.
The narration having personality and the content warning hardly bothered me. I think people read too deep into the early ending. It literally just says “Alright, bye-bye. Maybe find a different game more your style.” I read this thread first, I thought maybe it said something actually annoying.
For narration specifically, I do think it does falter a little on using its personality correctly. For example, out of morbid curiosity, I decided to have sex with Royal while he/she was in the hospital was weird. Well. We had sex.. Um… uh… I literally just curbstomped them lmao. The tone is meant to be light-hearted, raunchy, and fun, but sometimes the dramatic parts fall flat because of it. The relationships are very one note. I chose ‘drive to somewhere private’ because I thought I’d get to know Spike better, along with sex. We only had sex. I was surprised that right after he asks to be my boyfriend. I didn’t even know how to respond. I was attracted to him because of his honorable personality, but we literally never even interacted outside of fighting, and only had sex once, dude, lol! I didn’t know if I wanted to tie myself down so fast, as it was only chapter 2 and I knew there were other RO’s. But sadly, that was your only shot to get with him. The same occurs for all other love interests - you meet them, have to engage immediately, or never see them ever again. Even from a platonic viewpoint, I didn’t feel close to anybody to warrant them coming to save me in my battle against Pro.
The battle system also just tells you how to win. I didn’t mind this too much because I never care for the ‘game’ aspect of these stories, I’m into the story-telling most of all. But this coupled with the empty relationships made me quickly just click through pages. It was kind of an empty read. If someone who prefers the ‘gaming’ or strategy part of CoG/HG, they’d be a little disappointed to. It feels like the story wasn’t made for either demographic.
+on a curious note, is it possible to romance Kennedy, or are they aro/ace? If they’re aro/ace, then I feel a little cheated because I was interested in the vampirette as well, but I wanted to get to know Kennedy romantically as well. But since I had to choose between them, I never saw the vampire again… I’m genuinely wondering if I went about romance all wrong here because my romancing was very… odd.
You have to break up with anyone if you romance Vampirette.
Is it safe to assume that the author is attacking people who does not like the ‘trigger’ content?
I really liked this game I dont understand Why so many people are hating it. It literally gave warnings about the content. If you dont like this kind of content you propably shouldnt be playing. I really hope that more people will Give some love to this game.
It’s not the content that got me. It’s the pathetic annoyance of having to start the game over and over because the game is based on random choices. Your stats legit don’t matter. I bought the rest of the game and immediately got a refund within the same hour.
There was no way I was going to keep playing a game that had a crap tonne of potential in development only to be the biggest flop of a game I’ve ever seen on here.
There was no save system, stats didn’t matter and seemingly neither did your choices. You were railroaded into doing a lot of things which didn’t make the game enjoyable; it just made it a waste of time.
There were parts of it that just didn’t make sense at all and there was just no point in keeping it. Uninstalled and refunded.
For the love of god please don’t purchase the game. It isn’t worth it.
It’s not nice telling people not to buy a game because you don’t like it. For all it’s shortcomings the author did invest a great amount of time in it and while you might not like it someone else might.
Read the reviews on the play store.
And it might not be nice but it’s the truth as it is.
It is under the hosted games label, it has had no editorial input outside of what the authour arranged and can basically be about anything so long as it is not grossly offensive or someone elses IP. That’s the label. I often think there is something of a lack of division between the HG and CoG labels in people’s heads, but HG has pretty much the most popular games and also the lest popular games here on the forum, thats the nature of community and amateur produced stuff. It’s ok not to like a game, or to like it.
There is nothing bad in telling people what you feel about a game, if I don’t like a game I say it but not with words that say for the love of God don’t buy this game
This is a gentle reminder to please keep conversations directed at the topic at hand and not at the individuals themselves.
Focusing replies on the individuals themselves instead of the topic at hand can lead to friction between members and often causes the thread to derail.
Please also remember that it is often not so much what ones opinion is that causes friction, but how one chooses to express that opinion. Using negatively-charged value words are a good way to start friction, as is generalization and sniping. Personal comments lead to friction and flaming.
Sniping back and forth will often lead to the system closing the thread down, let’s avoid this if we can.
Please respect all posters and their opinions, even those with less popular or liked viewpoints – you can disagree with their post without making your reply about them personally.
*Finally, if you see disrespectful posts please do not reply to them. Rather, please use the report feature and let forum staff deescalate friction.
First of all, I want to start by saying that this is my opinion, my conspiracy, allegedly, and that I don’t mean to be rude or mean.
Is this game worth your hard-earned coin? No
The grade that I give this game is: 2/10
Two of my guilty pleasures jobs that I would love to do if I ever get a chance at another life is either being a nail tech or a stripper. When I read that we could be a stripper as our background, I was sold.
So, what went wrong?
1. The game was pushed back months, a few days before its release.
I always try to give every game I play the benefit of the doubt. I also try to give games some kind of leeway, and I let some things slide. However, when this game got pushed back, I was like, there can be no excuses for the game not to be on point now.
It wasn’t on point. This reason contributed heavily to the low score.
2. The assuming and consecutive one choice paragraphs.
There is a lot of assuming, and I hated that. For example, there was a point where the game just assumed/made up its mind that I was a criminal, and there was no way out of it. I hated that
Another one was when the game decided to mess with my job. The game just assumes that I give lap dances to women, which is not the case. I hated that with a passion. Mess with whatever you want, but don’t mess with my job or how I get my coin. That is like a cardinal sin.
The consecutive one choice paragraphs, a bit annoying. I don’t understand the importance of those. Those made me feel like the game was going to be unnecessarily long.
3. The thing felt like a rushed production.
I felt like the author took no time to developed anything. For example, personalities, and conversation.
I only made it to where the women (forgot her name) asked me out when I was leaving the stripper bar, and then she asked me to join the fighting club thing, or at least I thought that was where it was going.
Well, I felt like the conversation between me and her was super rushed. It was not explained who she was, or why I should care for her and her offers. All I know is that the game assumed that I gave her lap dances and that she was a client, and instead of going into details on how that client relationship happened, the game decides to just roll on.
Her personality was none. I mean, if I am a stripper and I love my job, and I am charming and beautiful, and I make good money, and you are going to come up and kickup some game to try to seduce me to go into a new unknown job, then you better be the goddess Aphrodite incarnate, which she wasn’t.
Also at that point, I was just over the game and the narrator annoying personality.
At the end of the day, I think the game had potential, but it needed another 4 or 5 years in the oven before being released.
