Sordwin by Thom Baylay

Twenty…but some of them are very similar

But yes, this is a big project. I’m really looking forward to seeing it completed but I’m certainly never doing anything this big again haha.

I loved it.
Can’t wait to continue my gentle peacemaker brownie.

I can’t help but wonder if it was the dryad who help me in the end, I forged a link with her afterall as a peacemaker

I know I’m super late, but can anyone help me out? At the end of Chapter 7 I can’t enter the boss fight together with my RO (Leah) no matter what I do. I remember that the healer elf can give me some blessed item which would solve my problem, but I’ve been restarting for hours and still can’t get him to give it to me. Any help is appreciated, thanks.

I will message you about your issue! If it turns into a back and forth, Discourse gets mad at you for responding to the same person too many times, lol.

Oh interesting, I don’t know if I’ve ever gotten the blessed item from the healer elf! but I’ve never had a problem getting L to go with me, unless I purposely broke it off with them (or they were too injured? I think that was a reason… been awhile since I played with L).

Gonna go back and try to get this blessed item now xD

If you do find how to obtain it, please let me know lol. I think you might need to have high relationship with the general people of sordwin

I’ve figured it out, you need 40+ relationship with the people of Sordwin and he’ll give you the items as a gift if you visit him.

EDIT: Turns out it doesn’t help at all and Leah still gets taken down, ugh!

If memory serves, it depends mostly on how positive the people of Sordwin are feeling. Ideally you want them to do well in the fight against the Lanterns at the end of Chapter 6. There are a lot of factors that contribute to this but talking to the weaponsmiths and Cora Carver are good bets. Also, stealing will lower their trust in you most of the time. Other things that help include saving O from the Hooded Lantern in Chapter 8, having a strong relationship with Leah, and having a holy pendant.

Don’t know if any of that helps. It’s been a while since I wrote this but if you’re still struggling let me know what choices you’ve been making and I’ll take a look.

Oh thanks, I did manage to get my own perfect ending thanks to user Netflix-and-Bills who messaged me and told me what to do.

Thank you for reaching out! Evertree Inn and Sordwin are my favourite books (they’re the reasons why I made an account here) and judging by the demo of Lux, it’s gonna be on that list as well!

Me at the end of Evertree Inn: “But Dandy, what was the bet you made with Isaria?”
Me at the end of Sordwin: “BUT DANDY, WHAT WAS THE BET YOU MADE WITH ISARIA???”

Jokes aside though, I really enjoyed this! I also played Evertree Inn and when I found out it has a sequel I knew I had to play it! I think I have to be in the right mindset for it though, because for me there’s a LOT of resetting my game
I’m just very determined to get things exactly the way I want it, and that requires a lot of restarting :joy:
It’s nice in a way, because then I get to experience a lot of the story in different capacities, though I do now dread spamming through Chapter 2 again.

I think the mystery this time around was a lot more interesting and I like how you were able to do a lot more exploring and putting things together. I also really liked Winter, though those types of characters are always my favourite!

I was originally going to gripe about how Observation was the Minstrel’s dump stat, (especially after my two highest stats in Evertree inn was Magic and Perception) but I found it rather easy to raise it to the bare minimum required to shoot things in the face properly, so I can’t complain much there.

I would have liked more conversations and moments with Dandy, as I felt he ended up floating about away from me for most of the story and I didn’t have as much interaction as I would have liked, but I’m also going to assume it’s mainly because Dandy wasn’t really incredibly invested in the mystery in the first place and wasn’t out investigating like I was. Other than that, I really liked how Dandy developed beyond his initial personality, and I want to wrap him in a blanket and protect him all the time :joy:

I didn’t think I’d like Orion as much as I did, but I’ll admit he grew on me! I hope he makes an appearance in the next story too!
Overall, I had a really great time playing this, and I kept coming home from work thinking “yesss time to play more of Sordwin!” so thank you for making such an excellent game! I’m eagerly awaiting the third book

I relate to this so much lol

I found Book 2 actually gave massive amounts of insight into Dandy/Daisy themselves, though! There’s a whole argument section you could have in the house you hide in (before going to the observatory at the end) that I played through probably every response they could have. I had to map it out to be sure ^^;

Ohh I didn’t realise! I only finished my first full playthrough last night and I haven’t gone through it again to find all the variations, but I’ll try having a look at it! I was trying to avoid any arguments with Dandy because I didn’t want him to try and break up with MC but he still did anyway lol

Thank you so much! It’s so great to know that people are still getting so much out of these stories.
In recent weeks, I’ve hit a real wall with writing. Lock down and furlough do not make for good creativity, but I hope the time I’ve taken to relax and de-stress mean I’ll be able to bounce back soon! Book 3 continues, even if at a very slow pace at the moment. Thank you all for your support and patience! It means the Worlds to me

@ThomB No worries! Self-care is vital, and creativity can come in waves.^^
But do you have a Patreon or a Ko-fi account I am unaware of? I’m sure I’m not the only one that would be keen to help support your art, especially if you’re experiencing furlough!

I don’t at the moment. Something I’m thinking about for the future. I’ll be sure to post any information here if I do!

I’m in the middle of playing this, and I have three small questions.

About classes

My character’s goal from the first game was to be a shaman, and when prompted to select the class for Sordwin, I picked the answer that basically said it’s still his aim. But while looking at this thread I’ve seen people mentionning the druid class? Is this a different class, did the name change, or do people refer to it in two different ways? If this is a different class, what is the difference between the two?

About the first fight

At the point I’m at, I did the first fight and I’m at the mayor’s. During that fight, my spell did nothing on the ennemy, and the warden got his face stolen. But judging by the achievement list, I suspect you can hurt the creature. How high the stats should be for me to hurt it (I use magic and bow)? And also, is it possible to avoid the warden’s fate if you manage to hurt the creature?

About the MC's appeareance

Well this one is… less technical

My character is an elf who lost most of his family in a fire. And my selected look is the “rugged and scarred” one. I imagine this look selection is also present with other backgrounds, and I’m curious if, with that BG, old burns could count as scars - among more regular scarring? Okay, yes, obviously this is up to the player, I know! But I’m curious about other people’s / the authors thoughts.

Aah, I want to continue playing, but bed is calling for me, and I shall oblige.

Classes

For your first question, yes, Druid is different. The differences I am aware of as of right now are in what exactly the goal is/flavor text/backstory/etc, what happens based on your goal in the third game and what stats are boosted (for Druid I think it’s observation, will and compassion mostly but I’m not sure).

First Fight

You can’t hurt it with regular methods so it doesn’t matter how high your stats are on magic or bow. I won’t spoil it for you what can hurt it though. The warden has his face stolen no matter what. You can save them all later, don’t worry.

MC's Appearance

Probably. Burn scars are still scars after all. I imagine whatever you want it to be can be so.

Thanks!
I honestly don’t know all stats that are boosted by the shaman. Spellcasting and the observation ones, I believe. Willpower too I guess. Something like that. But well, at least I know it’s different!

And well, I guess that’s okay for the first fight then!
