Seven days in purgatory (2020 Sept 5th, Chapters 3/7) (ko-fi open: Jan 6)

I’m super greedy and excited about this story but I want you to take care of yourself first and foremost!

Alright. This part of the third chapter prompted me to do age math.
So far the timeline with dates looks like this. ±1 year, because I didn’t bother with months.

Spoilers of course

1979 - MC’s birthday;
1984 - Spouse’s birthday;
1995 - MC and their (future) spouse start to “live together”. MC is 16, Spouse is 11.
1997 - Mr.Abernathy is for dinner. MC is 18, Spouse is 13.
1999 - MC and Spouse do grocery shopping (hell of an event to mark, I know :sweat_smile:). MC is 20, Spouse is 15.
2002 - MC and Spouse are considered to be together “knowing each other”. MC is 23, Spouse is 18.
2012 - Wedding. MC is 32, Spouse is 27.

Somewhere before 1995: MC’s dad left the family, Spouse’s mother either did the same or died.

I have to admit, it looks significantly less alarming in-game, because it’s less straightforward, split between chapters, and most concerning parts are tied with initial dates (which you probably just forgot the moment after you read them) or with spoilery misc password.

Well, initially during the first chapter I thought that the whole “we were together, I mean, living together for 23 years” was just because they lived nearby: it would explain the grocery shopping since it looks ok to do with a friend or neighbor kid you have to look after. Yet now I’m not so sure. It can be 1) their parents started to live together either in formal or informal marriage; 2) either of them was adopted/raised in another’s family.

Oh crap, you reminded me I got the anniversary wrong. Sixth* not seventh dammit. I forgot the first anniversary means ‘year after marriage’. Washington state didn’t legalise same sex marriage until 2012.

Adjusted the date, thank you :grin:

Thank you! I’m quite flattered that you took time to dig deeper xD

Ok. My newest theory is close to my original one. I still think that the real Anthony/spouse was killed by “Nico” and Nico is now trying to single white female him/take his place by becoming the “new” Anthony because he is obsessed with you…I still think this is all true, HOWEVER now I believe that Nico is also your step brother. Or step sister? I cant figure out the sex change part yet, that is obviously there. God I already love this game so much

Sex change?? Nico and $A (spouse) is supposed to be the same sex. Did I make a mistake somewhere?

Ohhh I just reread it, I see. My mistake! Never mind…thanks!!!

Good theory. But in two obtainable memories with younger Anthony and MC (“grocery” and “hide and seek”) there is not even a hint of Anthony looking or behaving differently compared to the present one.
And shouldn’t we meet Nico later? And somehow it should be related to how we meet them in the first place (in prison for trespassing)?

Ahhh…solid point. Need to rethink my theory. Thanks!!! Love discussing this game with you guys! :heart:

I think Nico could be an important part of the game, somebody that can actually help us “escape” (if we want to). Maybe he becomes worried about the MC (I think it’s canon that he has an interest of some sort for them) and he’s able to track us down.

Ooooh I would totally dig that as well!

Speaking of Nico, I can’t help but share this from my canon notes

(($A and Nico having a “talk” while $MC is briefly away to feed Hannibal…))
$A: “Is Nico even your real name?”
Nico: “Sure, it’s short for Nicotine!”
$A: “I don’t want to spoil my palate before a lovely dinner with the bullshit you’re feeding me” :grin:
Nico: “Oh, I’m sure you’re used to much sweeter appetizers” :grin:

Oh, there’s new things! I just went to reread, because this is my favorite WIP. What a lovely surprise.

Sounds like my MC’s biological parents are pretty shitty people. People who reproduce just to have little versions of themselves to order about are awful.

I really like the character building potential in the “Why I’m Going Back” question.

Very excited to see the new stuff! The new formatting looks very nice as well.

I’m interested in the story and MC’s past and equally iffy about the spouse. This constant care seems suffocating. The whole thing reminds me of Stephen King’s “Misery”.

Edit:

Summary

Of course I remember there was abuse presented in Misery on “caretaker’s” part and
here thankfully there’s none of that. Still I can’t help but pity MC’s situation.

Once an elderly bedridden woman told me that while she’s grateful for help her family provides, she hates feeling helpless and being unable to take care of herself. This is natural if you’re used to standing on your own two feet figuratively speaking and suddenly stripped of it.

Anthony makes me uncomfortable. :slightly_smiling_face::

Tsundere? More like Yandere.

I keep thinking of Killing Stalking a little bit, in the sense that MC’s lover is holding them hostage, keeping things a secret. That whole bit about killing the bird and stuff? Sir, that’s not normal. Please stop.

Possible Errors I Found

Silent Hill music goes wonderfully with this. I did find some things though, such as this:

I assume this is supposed to be “What’s it plugged (in)to…”? Although I also thought it was intentional, like starting to say one thing, only to trail off. I just wasn’t sure, so I thought I should point it out just in case.
err1
I chose a female MC (and a male lover); are both questions referring to the couple? Or are they supposed to refer only to MC?
err2
Same for this: Is it about Anthony (since I chose a male lover), or is it about MC (who I chose to be female)?
err4
And lastly, this!
err5

It was fun, I would do it again, especially since I’m HIGHLY suspicious of Anthony. I don’t trust him one bit. Nah.

I’m curious…when some of us find the spouse adorable and sweet, but others think the spouse very suspicious, it’s always interesting to see other people’s different views.:wink:

I mean, I think he’s shady af, but I also love the doting and am 300% here for the sweetness for as long as it lasts. :slight_smile:
