HA! I think I just found the secret RO! FairyGodfeather you genius you.
@Winterborn You did? Yay! I can guess since I just uploaded that section yesterday. Sssshhhh secret!
Haha I gotta say, i’m intrigued. Now i’m torn between Secret!RO and Sorrel /
It’s intended to be a short game and very replayable so you can catch them all!
@FairyGodfeather A-ha! Man, am I glad that you’ve thought so far about these little details. No more questions from the peanut gallery, then Keep up the good work!
Also, Secret!RO simply made my morning–Wait, scratch that. My whole day. Didn’t see that one coming.at.all.
@SlyBlue Oh no! Feel free to ask any questions you want. I love answering them. I’m glad people like the secret RO. I’m curious as to whether people know what the deal is there yet or not.
I know I am writing in a rather disjointed manner. I’m working on Aqua’s adventure just now. It’s a little short and needs a lot of fleshing out. It’s twisting a little different than I expected but that’s proving fun.
Can you post an updated link
The link’s the same as before. https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/154988802/scales/web/mygame/index.html
It’s not actually chronological yet though. There’s just snippets here and there and some jump to bits since I write rather disorganised. I bounce between vignettes. I will work on something near the end and then sketch out something at the start. I will use a lot of placeholder text that’s more there to tell what’s supposed to be there with the intention of going back and showing it and inserting more choices. The entire minstrel scene needs rewritten. There’s a bunch of dragon stuff that needs done. The baking contest is coded but there’s no text. It’s all coming along though. There’s far more on my notepad than there is typed up just now. I need to sit down and just type at some point.
I’m slowly poking away at Aqua’s Adventure. I’m sure if I sat down and gave myself an hour to write it it would be done but I’m having a lazy day. I was trying to work out the personality of the Artist/Scholar and writing snippets for them and they’ve ended up far different than I expected. I do like it when my stories take me by surprise.
Agaric, as they’re currently being named, is not so much an artist after all, which may be part of Aqua’s problem, she’s a terrible critic.
I’ll see if I can get Aqua’s Adventure written and finished by tomorrow. No promises though since today’s being lazy.
If I get Aqua’s done Swampy’s should then be easier, since Swampy’s Adventure also involves Agaric.
Chime’s currently involves the Minstrel to a certain extent.
Sparky and Lilac involve the Blacksmith/Knight/Guard.
Although now I’m thinking about it there might be a chance that both Agaric and the Blacksmith/Knight/Guard may show up in four of the adventure paths. It would only take a little tweaking. I’m not sure though. I’ll see how writing the story goes and aim for just one and not overcomplicating it to start with. It is just a side-adventure after all.
With the minstrel, at least the female version, the pronoun changes gender quite a bit
Thanks. I messed up some of my variables there. Dill’s variables have a d at the start and somehow I forgot all of those ds so it was using the same gender as the main character, which wasn’t the intention. I’ll run through and fix them.
So instead of finishing Aqua’s Adventure I wrote the end to the Witch romance instead. I really don’t write anything in order. Since I’ve not written the middle I’m not going to upload it yet.
I’m hoping that the romance won’t end up cliched or end up changing Sorrel’s personality. I like the prickly, bitter, misanthropic witch, just as they are, and they’re never going to be all sappy and romantic. At the same time once you do earn Sorrel’s loyalty, they will continue to insult you, but woe betide anyone who dares try to harm you. An angry Witch is an absolutely terrifying thing. Some of the Sorrel romance requires understanding their prickliness and just accepting it as opposed to trying to change who they are.
I’m also playing with a “decide to become a witch too” option.
or a wizard…
Wizards are a whole different kettle of fish in this fantasy world. Lucid’s already done a great job of a game about becoming a wizard. There shall be no wizards in my game, just witches and that’s an entirely different kind of magic.
I think one book had it so that wizards were dragons that traded their powerful forms for magical power. is that wizardry in your world?
Nope! Dragons are their own thing. They are powerful magic users too.
The easiest way to describe it is Wizards are extremely well educated, the intellectual elite, and learn from books. Witches learn from the school of life and nature.
Witches tend to be female. Wizards tend to be male. Which isn’t to say that some enterprising women haven’t become Wizards in the past, just as there are some male Witches.
They both use magic, just in different ways. Wizards tend to be more disciplined and frown upon the chaotic ways of Witches. Witches don’t see the points in all those rules wizards have. They’re far more in favour of personal responsibility as opposed to answering to some higher authority.
OoOoooOooOooOoo! We can become a Witch (awww yiss!)
Have I told you lately, that I love you ~~~
No seriously, I love this game. I think the choices are so nice, and all the characters are so cute… and you seriously had me laughing out loud at some parts. The ‘didn’t know Briar liked boys’ bit, and the ‘wining and dining’. I’m dying over here, srsly.
Well I for one would appreciate a “become a witch” option, can the dragon become our familiar? lol
Yay glad the witch idea is popular. I’ve been writing up that ending. It’s a bit silly. The dragon will be a familiar of sorts. Depending on which one it will want to help you with your witchcraft, or not.
The witch path requires a fair amount of interacting with Sorrel, as well as trying to find magical solutions to things. I’m going to add a magic stat and just add +1 at various places to it. It’ll likely be only available as one of the successful Sorrel romance endings.
The Evil ending should have you using magic too though.
@Potato Thankyou for your kind words. I’m glad you’ve enjoyed it so far. I’m going to have to follow through on that whole “wining and dining” thing. I suspect that scene will be utterly ridiculous.
