Thank you so much! My steam games are installed in custom location so that’s definitely why that happen
The new v1.3.1 update is now live with the following changes in the Choice Explorer window:
- Double clicking a command line (e.g.
*if
) will show where that line ends - Double clicking a
*gosub
or*goto
line will automatically navigate to that line - Current line won’t go out-of-bounds while modifying Font Size and Wrap Lines properties
- Save manager now remembers the steamapps/common folder’s path so that Choice Explorer’s app.asar files can be fetched from that folder automatically (i.e. games folder and saves folder’s paths are now cached separately)
- Numerous bugfixes
Hey, I’m getting an error about the path to the saves being too long, but every time I go in and manually shorten them by moving and deleting files it restores itself to the path that is too long. The game is specifically Fallen Hero: Rebirth. Here is the whole error message incase:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\1194750752\800620\1194750752\800620_fallenherorebirth_Default\1194750752\800620_fallenherorebirth_Default\1194750752\1194750752\800620_fallenherorebirth_Default\1194750752
Hi, don’t change “CoG Save Storage” to Steam folder. It must be located outside Steam. For example, you can set it to an empty folder in Documents or Desktop. You can move your old saves from “C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\1194750752\800620\1194750752” to the new location.
Not sure if this is Save manager issue or the book issue:
Playing Werevolves 3 and getting

when selecting the “choices” button. Saving and loading works fine .
I’ll have to investigate, thank you for reporting. This error usually doesn’t occur on every page; so could you share your save file via private message if possible?
This issue is resolved after fixing the incorrect game name issue. Save manager was looking for the game’s source code in Haven Rising folder. That name was coming from the save file. If you click Edit on a save, the first ‘title’ variable has value Haven Rising. I guess either the author has forgotten to update it or it’s impossible to do so for imported saves.
Hi, I’m not sure if you’d be able to help with this but I don’t know where else to ask. Steam isn’t creating a folder for any cog/hg game in user data so I can’t use the editor. I’ve tried going forward several pages, restarting the book, closing the game and opening it again, leaving the game open for a while and restarting my entire device. Cloud saves are definitely enabled. I tried turning that off and on again too but still nothing. Its created a cloud save file for other games that aren’t cog/hg so it just seems to be an issue with cog/hg games. Does anyone have any idea how i can fix this, or am I just doing something wrong?
As a last resort, you could find the game’s numeric ID from its Steam url and search your entire computer for a folder with that name.
Not sure if I’m doing something wrong suddenly, as this hasn’t happened to me before, but when using the choices button on a savefile from a certain game, it opens some kind of weird file explorer window. Not sure what it wants me to do here. As it’s never happened for other games, the game its happening on is war for the west.
I’ve added a description to the file explorer’s title but it’s easy to miss. You just need to select “C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\war for the west\resources\app.asar”. Save manager tries guessing “war for the west” directory’s name by looking at the game’s title but for a few games, they don’t match and in that case the save manager displays the file explorer dialog.
Thank you that worked
Hello I’ve encountered this error while trying to check the Choices in The Hero Project: Open Season.
Try running the game without importing the saves. and see if that works.
Actually I think this is the source code of The Hero Project: Redemption Season. Did the save manager show a file browser dialog when you clicked the Choices button? If so, you need to select the Open Season book’s folder in that dialog. If that dialog is no longer showing, switching to another game, opening its Choices, then returning to Open Season could work. You could also uninstall Redemption Season if you no longer need it, though admittedly that’s a more destructive solution.
PS. I just remembered that save files’ title
variable could point to the first entry in the series (source). Save manager tries to find the game’s source code by looking at its title
variable. In that case, starting a game without importing a save could indeed work (new saves have correct title
). Try doing that: start a new game from scratch, open its Choices (this will cache the correct game’s folder), then load the save that has thrown the error you’ve posted.
Ok thanks, that fixed it.
I went back to THP: Redemption Season and clicked the Choices button and it did open a file browser and was looking for an app.asar. I selected the Redemption Season folder, then switched back to Open Season. It also started looking for an app.asar so I selected the Open Season folder. That fixed it, thanks
Hi, the save editor is working fine but every time I open the program this error appears, for some reason wanting to grab one of my Baldur’s Gate 3 saves? I’ve closed and reopened the program several times and its the only directory showing up.

Hi, I’m suspecting that CoG Save Storage was set to the path you’ve posted. Can you change it to a constant path that isn’t inside Steam\userdata? If you’ve been changing it for each game, you don’t have to; saves are automatically put into their own subfolders. I’d recommend the original path, i.e. a folder in Documents. You can move your previous save files to that new folder to restore them.
I’m currently playing Fernweh Saga so I set the game directory path in userdata to the game and the save storage is in my documents folder (it automatically created a CoG Saves folder)
As I said, the program functions perfectly but shows the error every time I open it up. Changing the game directory unfortunately doesn’t make it go away
