The story states Masami as prepubescent, so about 14 at the most. Other physical descriptions back that up. Also apart from her academic knowledge, she’s not very mature either.
As noted above the author kinda sunk any hopes for a Masa romance, by declaring hatred for pedophiles (which to be fair falls under common sense). Honestly aiting for them to grow up would be just a creepy, bringing us back to the Ted Nugent of Samurai…it should not come back to this.

I’m reminded of Hisoka from HunterxHunter whenever people talk about aging Masa up.
If the author really wants to make it happen I don’t see how he can’t just state that she looks younger then she really is. Happens all the time in anime.

Happens all the time in real life too I know a few people around 20 years old who look no older than 16. I myself am the opposite and was asked what I was studying at uni when I was 16.
Literally one of the first descriptions of her in book one…
“That buzzing, pre-pubescent and presumptuous voice belonged to none other than my tiny traveling partner. Lucky me.”

Yeah just look it up and that was referring to her voice, not her. So she sounds and looks younger than she is. As I quoted before:
“The term ‘young woman’ is more accurate."
“And this talk of being old is a poor delusion. So I forbid that as well.”
I’m pretty sure that this is the author’s way of hinting to us that the ronin has wrongly assumed Masami’s age. She is a “young adult” and the ronin isn’t relatively that old.
Um pretty sure a prepubescent voice comes from pre pubescent kid…add that up with them barely being over 4 feet, still developing body, and other clear descriptions, and other evidence once again points to 14 at most.
The Ronin is constantly referred to as being older than their companions who range to mid 20s.
Look it’s starting to feel wierd how your tying to justify wanting to get with a kid.

I’m not justify wanting to get with a kid. I’m arguing that her age has been wrongly assumed. And I’m sorry if I seem to be going over the top, I just have a lot of experience of people assuming that looks=age, which is annoying. We should probably stop this here though.

Honestely, Masa age is confusing, in the first page he is describe as pre pubescent, but also, more ahead, the ronin refers to him saying:
I was a young woman about a lifetime ago, but I still knew the desire every adolescent had. Not that desire—mind you—but the desire to prove one’s own worth.
Then Masami saying she is a young woman, I don’t know, it gives mixed messages tbh.

A kid tends to describe themselves as a young wo/man…the physical traits above and immaturity disagree however.
The description with the Ronin seems exaggerated…that or they are 50…

Yeah, but the ronin also refers to him as a adolescent. I don’t really care, for the moment he is not going to be a romance, but nothing says that in the future they will not be an option. The fact that their gender changes depending on your preferences makes me think so.

What he confirmed is that would be not paedophilia, which obviously everyone here agrees too. Were has he stated that time will not move forward and Masa will turn into an adult and then they would be a RO?

Personally speaking romancing Masa isn’t for me.
I don’t need the line describing them as pubescent. The Ronin constantly refers to them as “kid” and that’s enough for me.
An easy way for the author to rectify this without aging them in a time skip (which sounds creepy imo) is to just have Masa reveal their age as being older then they appear.
That being said, I still wouldn’t romance her personally because besides me being with Toshie anyway, the numerous times the Ronin addresses them as “kid” and treats them as one has left it’s impression on me. It would simply be too hard for me to ignore after 3 books.
But yeah, the author has left enough anonymity by not given specific ages that he can pull it off imo.

I’m pretty sure knowing a prepubescent child, acting as their gardian and provider, and waiting for them to to hit adulthood to romance them is still creepy…which brings back to how creepy it is you’re trying to justify this, especially with the options are age being more than enough.

I don’t find it creepy at all. First of all, the ronin is oblivious to Masa’s crush, so is not like the MC is “waiting” for anything.
Me, myself, had an older boyfriend when I was 15, and no one was surprised about it because we are not talking about a 10 year old that is not fully aware of what is going on. Masa knows what they want, no one is saying to go and get them into bed or anything similar. It looks like a lot of people wants to treat teenagers like if they are really stupid and unable to take their own decisions, and at the end, I think it should be up to the teen in question to choose what to do with their own life, taking into account that that decision is not going to harm them.
I don’t know how you play your ronin, maybe the only way your ronin sees love is if a sexual relationship is involved too, and that is why you get so upset over it, because you think everyone that wants to romance Masa wants to get laid with a teen that, in your mind, is 14 years old. But the thing is, not everyone needs to have sex to love someone, care for them, etc etc, and no one here is talking about abusing them in any way.

I’m gonna have to agree with author, when I state that few things piss me up as much as a pedophile. If a adult engages in a inapropriate relationship with a child, be it physical or emotional, they are the worst. Everything you just typed is incredibly cringy because you fail to realize Masa is not the responsible party it’s the Ronin.

I don’ t know about now, but I always thought that Masami/shi was always planed as a RO. Mainly because they change their gender based on ronins preference. When I first played I thought they were 16 or 17.
Yes Ronin describes them as many things,but I always thought that ronin highly exagerates when it comes to Masashi’s or their own age. Ronin describes themeself as an old but I always thought it’s because they FEEL old (they’ve been through a lot after all) not because they really are. I believe the kid is the same case. They are innnocent and naive and because of that ronin tends to think of them as a kid. Which can change in time.
I don’t plan to romance the kid with my main ronin, but I don’t see the problem . It seems to me that people view posible romance as having sex with the kid. Romance doesn’t automaticaly means sex guys.
(Fun fact: Age of consent in my country is 15. I know many girls who dated their teacher at highschool at 16. And it was completely normal.)
But what I really wanted to say is that IF the romace happens, it would be OPTIONAL. You don’t need to romance them , so let the others enojy it and play as they want.
