Samurai of Hyuga Book 2

I have Samurai of Hyuga 1 on the Chrome App Store.

My understanding is that you won’t be able to continue purchasing Choice of Game releases on the App Store? If so, what is the best place to purchase this game for me to continue playing it on the PC?

I finally got the previous character to load! It just took an obscenely long time. But hooray it worked!

Well, it’s looking pretty good, but it loaded one of my previous choices wrong, and I know I’m not misremembering because I just played it last night. Not like it really bothers me though, just a minor thing.

If you don’t want to use crappy and bug ridden emulation software to emulate some rotten mobile device, your choices are to buy it on the website, directly from CoG, and play on their servers (which precludes any modification) or wait to pay more in order to buy it from Steam (which we may also not be able to mod).

I would be happy to buy it directly from Choice of Games, except I currently have no idea how. :frowning:

It’s not up on either the Hosted Games or Our Games section, if it wasn’t for this forum post I would have no idea it’s even out. So, uhh, how do you purchase it from direct from the website at the moment?

Staggered release, CoG and Steam release Friday their time (West Coast USA), which would be early on Saturday here. It’s the bad old days all over again, thanks Google. :unamused:

On the Chrome app store! YAY…bought! XD

Woo oh just finished it. Got to say, I really enjoyed it.

Although, Are the hints of romance leading up to the next book, or did I do something wrong? I wanna romance our li’l cutie ninja Toshio! Also, the switching of stat names at the end was really subtle and I was utterly amazed and shocked at the same time when I realized it.

Just bought it. I cant play it yet though (which is frustrating) since my saves from the last book just wont download. :anguished:

The drama when romancing Momoko is real.

Is it possible to invite Toshie or will she always refuse? I can only ever go with Momoko.

Just finished my first full run through of it, and I’m a bit disappointed at parts. I still love the interactions between the characters, and the first person style is always a treat, but aspects of the story felt very much railroaded (Your character’s feelings towards certain NPCs comes to mind), and It didn’t feel like there was a satisfying conclusion. The ending, which I’m not directly referencing for at least a week, felt just like the ending of book one, except this time there was no climactic battle even though the dialogue and overall direction of the story seemed to be pointing to a fight.

Overall it was a fun second chapter, and one I’ll be playing through again.

Pretty damn good. The drama and cliffhanger are real. I love being a perverted drifter

Have to wait on steam launch before I can pick this up :frowning:

Edit: scratch that - just seen the chrome store link

Edit 2: and bought!

I finished the game twice and I’m very disappointed at the lack of hot saucy romance except with ojisan smacked

That aside, the second book has been a good ride though I’m a bit unsatisfied with the ending. Though that can only mean we will have a great book three to wrap this up, am I right?

Oh my god. I’m not exaggerating when I say I’ve had your Twitter on notifications since you made it and that I’ve checked your website every now and then for notices on the sequel’s release. I love Samurai of Hyuga: Book 1. Your writing is on point, building tension when needed, transitioning into light-hearted humorous moments that are easy to love.

Samurai of Hyuga: Book 2 is also just as enjoyable if not more. SPOILERS AHEAD (only read if you finished SoH 2):
There were parts that were better than the first book, the entirety of the Shogi tournament (the match with Toshio was God tier), writing Stroker of Self’s jisei, Momoko’s interactions with PC, the kabuki theatre visit, and Sadao’s memories being major highlights for me!!! However, I did also feel there were parts that seemed weaker, particularly towards the end. There was massive buildup towards a confrontation, and from the “boss battle” at the end of the first book, the length of the second book (and from the length of Satsuma’s lists of targets), I thought at least one oni would be dealt with in this entry of the series. Thus, it was really jarring to see it end where it did. It felt like the last chapters in the mansion dragged on a bit, culminating in shock with a sudden murder mystery, before fizzling into the dreaded realisation that we have to wait another year for the next part of the story.

Nevertheless, I really like where the plot is going! It’s just the length of this instalment doesn’t seem to match the amount of progress our merry band of misfits had achieved, making this segment of the journey end on a somewhat less satisfying note ?

Also this point might be a bit (or extremely) biased, but I was kind of miffed about the aggression PC showed towards Toshio. While the Kondo’s actions are still mysterious, PC felt much less caring towards him than the others (and even compared to how PC thought of Toshio in the first book sometimes), especially when they would often point out how Toshio’s actions was only for the mission. I didn’t think PC would be so against as they too pride themselves as being a rōnin who ‘gets the job done’ (something along these lines in the first book I think), and Toshio still shows some level of care to the others rather than seeing everyone else as expendable assets. Though granted, the comment about Momoko’s feelings as a distraction was a little rude. Idk, I just thought the meditation at the beach scene had so much potential :’( rip toshio x PC feels man

However, a part that definitely had and reached its potential was that overwhelming presence of Jun on PC’s psyche. Hate him or love him, I really loved the atmosphere of tension and sometimes horror when PC would /think/ they sense him, only to see nothing at all ooooo
These are just my first impressions after just finishing it, and sorry for this jumbled mess of a review. Hopefully I’ll have more coherent feedback to give after my numerous playthroughs(^ν^)Looking forward to the next installment and expect loads of fanart goddddamnnn !!

If you don’t mind me asking, @MultipleChoice, how many books will there be? There’s still 5 more spirits still to slay on Satsuma’s list after all :open_mouth:

Thanks for all the kind words, everybody!

@Terriermon50
The romances in book 2 are Momoko and the Baron. Romances in general for the series won’t have ‘mistakes’ so no worries of ‘getting on the right route’ like you often see in dating sims and visual novels.

@LanaRose @potouto @niawo
For the ending,
I realize it’s not the most satisfying. The demon is still alive, after all! But what that ending does allow me to do is enter into a short, mystery genre shift at the start of Book 3. I hope to challenge players and introduce some game-y aspects, but for that there will have to be room for failure (bad ends).

Challenges like these are better at the start of a book than at the end, so that failure doesn’t = hours and hours of reading stuff over again.
As for a total number of books in the series, I don’t know yet but I will be spending a lot of time outlining. I am keeping the Satsuma Spirit Count™ in mind!

Yeah, I was also slightly disappointed we couldn’t get anywhere with the cute Kondo. He’s still a total mysterious hunk though and my mc for one still has big crush on him, but I’m also quite relieved that giving in to my mc’s perverted nature and going after the Baron too isn’t going to cut me off from Toshio’s romance path later on.

First of all, thank you so much for all your hard work.

I started reading the second book in the evening of its release and finished it only when the sun arose. It’s been a long time since a book kept me up all night. Words like “work” and “responsibilities” usually come to mind, but this time I couldn’t think of anything else but the story.
And the story, along with the character interactions, had me gasping out loud and giggling like a mad woman during most of the first half. Couldn’t stop grinning too. Not embarrassing at all.
The dramatic elements are also written really well. The whole second half of the book is pretty heavy. Won’t deny it, some scenes hit home hard. And with all bad stuff that happened between our party members, I’m just here hoping the group would not fall apart completely. I also already miss Momoko. And wish for something good to happen next to balance the things out. A payoff of sorts.

Speaking of payoff, wanted to go on about the ending, but, I think, niawo have said it better than I will ever be able to. The waiting for the next book won’t be easy, I tell you. But I love the series so much, it’s all worth it.

P.S I wonder if we would be able to change our stats later on. I wanted to roleplay my drifter becoming more protective after all that had happened, but all I could do was to fail the checks miserably
While I’ve yet to finish Book 2, I believe I’m fairly close to the ending. While I like certain scenes, the story as a whole feels fairly disjointed, as if the MC is on a constant acid trip.

For example, a lot of the character’s behavior is poorly explained and the But Thou Must nature of the romance is odd. I just saw Masami get her throat slit, why the hell am I ignoring her to go to the theater? Not to mention that the theater section doesn’t really go anywhere, as you don’t do anything important and going backstage leads to another disjointed sequence, where Momoko kind of acts completely out of character. Also how the hell is the city able to function with that much standing water? It should be destroyed at that point, not still functioning to the point Hatch can use the bath house. Then we have no way to deny the secret rendezvous with Momoko, or even know that it was set up until right before it happens. I -really- dislike that I couldn’t tell her I wasn’t interested beforehand and spend the day with Masami/Toshie or even Hatch instead.

The book is good overall. It was quite solid at parts, enjoyable. However, at other parts I was… annoyed.
I mean the ending is obviously intended to be a cliffhanger so I am not angry about it but overall I think what frustrated me the most was being forced into things I didn’t want to do and not being able to do things I wanted to do, because of stupid reasons that I should be able to ignore. Of course, you can’t always do what you want to.

Rant commencing…3…2…1
Yeah sure Momoko is hot, she likes MC yada yada The problem is, I don’t care. If I cannot go to the theatre with Masami, I will not go to the damn theatre. I wanted to go to the theatre to cheer her up in the first place. If I can’t do that, I would much prefer to stay around her than go to a place I don’t care about, to follow a plot point I don’t want to. Not only that, MC does that after basically threatening Toshie in anger. Wat. It’s basically forcing the plot to develop in a forced way, instead of giving us a choice. I could forge a new sword for Jubei over this much irony. sigh

I also noted a distinct lack of ‘not leaving her’ in the game. I tell her that I will never leave her ever again. Bam, leave her for a kabuki theatre after what she went through. Bam, leave her because ‘date’ with Momoko is more important, despite the fact that nutjob-ex might be around. Wow, such promise, much care, so logic.

I tried to get her and Hatch together when the choice was given. Is it not obvious I am not interested in her, can’t I just friendzone her and return to house instead of staying with her for the night even if I have to go to her. What. The. Hell. Look I like Momoko, she was brave enough to risk herself to help us take down that yakuza-boss-snake-woman and later patched me up after Junko carved me a new one. But honestly speaking, she is the person I care the least about in the group.

Frankly, this game feels like a set up for the next one. A forced one. Stupid reasons are given, characters don’t act like themselves, you are not given choices that you should have… The last one really grinds my gears because that is the aspect I care about the most. I could continue more about the Baron’s mansion etc, but I think I will get only harsher as I’m riding high on emotions. I apologise as I… wel come across as rude. It’s just that I simply fell in love with the first book and got really emotional when the second one fell low compared to what I expected. I probably expected too much I guess. sigh Sorry.
Rant over.

Aside from that, the save system has a problem in it. I killed Ume Ume’s attackers and dumped their body so that she doesn’t have to leave. The game says that I let those guys beat her. I bought it from the Google Play Store, maybe that version is bugged or something? I dunno.
