Royal Affairs Discussion Thread and Romance Guide (Spoilers Within)

Progress report: September, week 4:

Where I’m at overall: 54000 words total with a 22000 average playthrough length.

What I’ve done: did a couple of little fixes on the teaser excerpt, wrote a tiny bit of Chapter 3, and did some planning for a little teaser story. This week was very small scale in Royal Affairs terms because I was tired out from my day job, the change of seasons, and the world in general. However, the tiny bit of Chapter 3 writing has tipped me across the gulf between “having done the code skeleton” and “writing”, so hopefully I’ll have more momentum this week.

What’s next: Chapter 3 writing, teaser creation, and giving myself permission to rest when needed.

Hannah,

I went back and played the mini-games for Delacroix and Blaise. Although it might be time consuming to do again for Royal Affairs. I found the them to be very illuminating about key NPC’s in the game. It definitely helps in your immersion experience and definitely helps the reader understand why Blaise had such a chip on his/her shoulder.

Thank you! I’m planning to make something similar during the writing of Royal Affairs. I’m glad you enjoyed!

@HarrisPS, had a dumb question here: I just noticed that the MC’s horse happen to be fixed as a mare, and not a stallion or gelding, which practically goes the same as in the first book, may I ask as to why was it set that way? Or will we be provided with the option of choosing the horse’s gender?

The Queen Mother insists on a gentle mare so her baby will not get injured riding.

No particular reason! The bird and dog are female too - it’s mostly because there are a ton of gender variable other characters and I wanted to use any way to make my life more straightforward. I think there are male horses in Crème but I can’t remember what the spread is - maybe the one Freddie rides is a mare? All I recall is that they’re all spice names.

Or also what @Eiwynn said :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes::grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes::grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Edit: thank you so much @Death_Knight! I hope you enjoy!

Well it is still a “tamed” wild horse…so… :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: :face_with_head_bandage:

It could be worse, the Thoroughbred is highly strung, so…em, eh, well…yeah…

This fascinating. I tend to randomize the genders on first play throughs because I tend to Antagonize the characters. So here’s what i got lol.

1st play throughs:
Beaumont- She
Dominique- He
Asher- He

Second play through:
Beaumont- They
Dominique- He
Asher- She

Third play through:
Beaumont- She
Dominique- He
Asher- She

Trivia: all three tries Domini has been male, Javi as well. whoa. Trivia aside tho: This did not disappoint. So far Asher has been my fav🥰. Oh. I also met Emil, he has grown a little colder. Him and Max were my fav. Pls don’t be cold towards us.

I wonder if there will be a huge twist in the story like with creme that instead of throwing the expelled students in the mines like lady R, this headmaster sells them abroad :joy: Pls don’t I acutely like him. He seems nice so far.:joy: I don’t wanna be that person that goes why can’t i romance character Z. >~ looking at you Clemence

I actually thought Asher was gender-locked as nb, because that’s what I got every time I randomised the genders. :joy: In my tries I got different genders for Dominique instead, so that’s fun (seems like we always get one character stubbornly sticking to their guns ).

(And this has reminded me that I should go play the demo again, since I’m beginning to be fuzzy on who each character was… :kissing_smiling_eyes: )

I’m so ready for this.

I’m not sure if it’s a bug but when MC chose to pick a card first, after Asher’s turn, Dominique said it is her turn to pick one XD
Is it a bug or Dominique just wants her to pick again???

That’s not intentional, and I’ve uploaded a current version (v1.3) which fixes that issue. Thank you for spotting it and letting me know!

Only just found out about this but I’m excited to see how it unfolds.

I remember liking Creme de la Creme a lot more than I had initially expected going into it and I expect that I’ll be able to enjoy this too, judging from what little we’ve gotten of it.

While the bitter rival RO idea might be recycled again, I can’t say I don’t love that it’s there. I enjoyed Blaise even if it felt like content with them was lacking compared to the other ROs, hopefully Javi will have more though.

By the end of the demo, I think you could challenge Javi to a duel, really don’t know how will it ends, if the MC loses, he/she’ll be make a fool out of it, might even make the Royal Family of Westerlin a laughing stock; should Javi loses, she/he’ll be even angrier than ever, not to mention that Javi and the MC didn’t have a good start, this duel? Well, it’s gonna be way more interesting than ever.

I can absolutely promise that there is more Javi in Royal Affairs than Blaise in Crème de la Crème! :sparkles:

Bad news for the tiny minority i.e. yours truly, who liked Blaise but don’t like Javi. I mean at least Blaise had some reason to dislike the mc not seeing that with Javi, he just seems a spoiled obnoxious little git.
With how nice and relatively humble Rosario was I guess Javi got the double dose of royal entitlement syndrome.

Thank you so much
Wow we can choose the address now too for the RoyalMC XD
(I can’t send the screenshhot because it says on my phone I can’t embed media files sorry T_T)
Though I still got the text:

Dominique slides the card across the desk, and shuffles it into the deck.“Now it’s your turn, Castella.”
You Pick A Card

after choosing “Absolutely” in the card pick (and picking 1st) but it doesn’t make MC take a card again
Just say that in text XD
Sorry if I’m being annoying and thank you again

Javi has a reason too I think XD
Though not as heavy and reasonable as Blaise in my opinion
They probably got tired of people always matchmaking them with MC and take it out on them
With a dose of entitlement too like you said XD
