Glad it’s working now!
Thought I might ask, is there any Discord group or a public server I can join in related to the Creme de la Creme series? I’d love to check up on it every once in a while to see if there are any WIP progress!
There is not I’m afraid (or at least not one that I run). I do have a Tumblr where I post about updates and a Patreon where earlier access updates go. But I’ll always post demo updates here once they’re up on dashingdon.
Hello! There’s a spelling error after you sample the delicacies for the Window Ball - the “he says without enthusiasmu” bit. This is where Javier is going back to his room post-Yannick haraunging.
(He refers to Javier, but I can’t seem to link it here)
Thank you for noticing and letting me know!
I finally got around to playing the demo again and there’s something I noticed that I think could stand to be looked at.
When you’re getting ready to go to the ball and you have your choice of accessories, one of them is a signet ring. I went with that ring expecting it to be my signet ring somehow. The MC is, after all, one of the heirs of a royal house. It’s very possible that there’s a crest for an heir of the house, or a personal family crest that isn’t the royal seal, or something along those lines. I was pretty surprised to find out that it was basically the signet ring of a random Jezhani noble family that a family friend picked up on vacation. It just feels a bit weird to me that a royal heir is attending a ball wearing the signet ring of some other noble house. I wouldn’t have selected it if I knew that’s what it was, because I chose it expecting a flashy little reminder that I’m royalty, and the ring of a random foreign noble family sends an entirely different message.
Something strikes me as funny is picking the size. I wasn’t sure if I was picking the size of my MC or the size of Asher. I assumed it’s the latter and thinking if it would be cool to have a tall muscled bodyguard towering over me.
@KZV ooh that entirely makes sense! I think when I wrote that I wasn’t fully thinking of the implications of a signet ring specifically but you’re totally right. I’ll tweak that, either to make it more connected with the family or make it something else if I want to keep it being a foreign gift.
@NationMaker it’s picking your height in relation to Asher! I’ll have a look at the wording and see if I can make that clearer
Welcome to the latest demo update which includes the whole of Chapter 6 - in this chapter it’s the school play, and this year’s Festival of the Birds! Play the update here!
I’d love to hear what you think and as ever bug reports are very welcome. Thank you so much for playing!

“when the door slams open”
I’m wondering, is there any way we could get a “I’m not going to tip the scales either way, because they’ll both do a good job” option or something like that here, or would that be too much work to justify?
"Trevelyan turns to you. “I need a rest after that,” she says, “or a good fight with Beaumont.” Yeah, sure, a “fight”.
Is there a particular reason you decided that the first option here doesn’t lead to the book conversation? The other three do.
I’m not sure if it’s intended, but when you go to hunt for Charron, both the workers’s scene and the waterfall scene succeed even if I pick the options that I’m pretty sure I fail the skill checks.
I’m not sure how important this festival is going to be that you’d dedicate a chapter to it. It is, after all… for the birds.
gets vaudeville hook’d
“She knots the scarf carefully, unties it, then knots it again.” Ladies and gentlemen and enbies, the Beaumont equivalent of doing happy cartwheels.
Error 404: Play Not Found in the second line.
I don’t have enough subtle to make this option work, but there’s something missing in that second sentence:
Error 404 again, right at the start:
Remark: any possibility these Error 404s might be related to me being in the student council and not the drama club, and therefore not picking a play?
I think it’s “curtsies”.
“How come you’re so much nicer to John than me?” Trevelyan grumbles.
Because I’m goddamn ADORABLE, Trev, that’s why.
“But Estell and King Mateo had a fight last week.” Oh look, our parents are no longer interested in me marrying the girl I wasn’t interested in marrying in the first place (but that they kept trying to push anyway). How troublesome. sips tea relaxedly, pinky out
…
Crap, now I DEFINITELY need to make a Javi-rom playthrough when the game comes out just to spite these people, don’t I?
Huey Lewis never made a song about the Power of Spite, but he should’ve.
Aaaaand end of chapter 6.
When doing Dominique’s romance the date in chapter 6 somehow loops back to the first conversation about buying him a ring.
@JBento Thank you for all your detailed findings, that’s immensely useful! I’ll be getting on that shortly. I’m glad you enjoyed Beaumont and their scarf
@idonotlikeusernames I’m so sorry that happened and thank you for letting me know! I’ve had a report from someone else having a similar issue. Can I check whether that was using an old save file or starting a new one? (I’m not sure if loading saves makes a difference but I want to cover all the bases before I dive in and make a big change to how these scenes trigger - I suspect I’m going to need to make that change anyway, as it’s proving unstable, but I’d like to figure out just how big the change will need to be!)
@RenataC I think that’s likely because of using an old save - if it’s older than the Chapter 5 update from September, it definitely won’t work. I will investigate and see if I can make it happen on my end though! Thank you for letting me know!
I did some code diving when I came across this bug and I am pretty sure that I figured it out. I think your hub functions are just missing a *return statement.
Right now they read like this:
*label romance_asher_hub
*if (not(module_romance_asher_1))
*gosub module_romance_asher_1
*return
*else
*if (not(module_romance_asher_2))
*gosub module_romance_asher_2
*return
*else
*if (not(module_romance_asher_3))
*gosub module_romance_asher_3
*return
*else
*if (not(module_romance_asher_4))
*gosub module_romance_asher_4
*else
*bug should not be accessible
I think what’s happening is that it’s returning from module_4, and then since there’s no return statement there it’s falling down the file into module_1, until it hits the first return statement, which sends it back to scene 6. I think adding a *return after the *gosub module_4 will fix this.
EDIT: This seems to be the case for the hub functions for Asher, Dominique, and Beaumont, who are the three ROs I have experienced this bug with.
That’s incredibly helpful, thank you for spotting that! (I’m on holiday at the moment so have had less time to comb through things, so it’s even more appreciated as I hadn’t had a chance to look through properly yet!) I’ve updated corrected files including that fix. If that sorts it out, that’s huge. I must have missed it on one of them and copypasted without realising, and happened not to have tested those particular modules myself. Fingers crossed that it’ll be sorted now!
This is a good point! I’ve made a note of it in my list of slightly larger feedback to look at when I’ve got a bit more time, as it would involve a little bit more tweaks in later sections. But I like the idea of including it for MCs who are less partisan.
I’ll have a look into this one!
That was an oversight - fixed now!
Typos and play name also fixed. Thanks again for spotting these!
Edit: there was a saveslot issue previously but it should now be working as expected.
Always a pleasure!
I’ve tried the Asher and Beaumont paths and it seems to be fixed.
Finally caught up. There was an error popping up a few screens into my last save, so I was waiting a few updates before doing a replay from the start (error was fixed BTW).
Really enjoying playing a royal that cares about the people and their rights. And encouraging Asher and Hyacinthe to speak up for themselves. Or letting them know they can take the initiative with things like kissing the MC.
Disappointed we can’t tease Asher about spending so much time with Ibarra though.
